A novel elastase inhibitor from Aspergillus nidulans NBRC 4340, Asnidin, was isolated, and biochemical properties and partial amino acid sequence were examined. Column chromatography using diethylaminoethyl (DE) 52-Cellulose and reversed-phase HPLC were used to purify the inhibitor. In mosquito larvae, the peritrophic matrix (PM) separates the gut contents from the intestinal epithelium. This report describes a new in vivo assay for estimating PM permeability. In the present study, the motilin receptor was characterized by enzymatic digestion studies and by solubilization of the motilin-receptor complex from prelabeled membranes using the anionic detergent cholic acid. When activity of peroxidase in adult Paragonimus westermani was monitored using o-dianisidine and H2O2 as substrates, its specific activity was 1.5 times higher in excretory-secretory product (ESP) than in crude extract. The enzyme was purified by two purification steps of Sephacryl S-300 Superfine gel permeation and DEAE-Trisacryl M anion exchange chromatographies. Cholinergic muscarinic receptors undergo proteolytic degradation in vitro under physiological conditions as shown by a loss in [3H]quinuclidinylbenzilate binding activity. The nuclei of Plasmodium yoelii nigeriensis contain an enzyme, ADP-ribosyltransferase, that will incorporate the ADP-ribose moiety of NAD+ into acid-insoluble product. Theta-Toxin, an oxygen-labile hemolysin produced by Clostridium perfringens, was purified 3300 fold from culture filtrate by successive chromatography on DEAE-Sephadex A-50 and Sephadex G-150.
