Editorial Commentary: Elbow Arthroscopy in the Pediatric Patient-Small Lesions in a Small Joint but With a Big Impact.

Elbow arthroscopy has evolved to be a powerful tool for the treatment of a broad spectrum of pathologies over the past almost 40 years. The small joint with a complex arthroscopic anatomy demands special training and exceptional skills from the orthopaedic surgeon. On the basis of this fact and in light of the close proximity of the neurovascular structures, complication rates are somewhat higher compared with other large joints such as the knee and the shoulder. Nevertheless, elbow arthroscopy has also found its way into the treatment of joint pathologies in pediatric patients. The spectrum o

Estimation of joint incongruence in dysplastic canine elbows before and after dynamic proximal ulnar osteotomy.

OBJECTIVE: To characterize joint incongruence in dysplastic canine elbows before and after dynamic proximal ulnar osteotomy (DPUO). STUDY DESIGN: Clinical, prospective study. ANIMALS: Dogs (n = 10; 12 elbows) with ≥ 2 mm radioulnar incongruence (RUI), FCP, and/or OCD. METHODS: Computed tomography in a nonload bearing position was used to generate in silico 3D models of the elbow joint before DPUO, and this was repeated after DPUO union (median 3 months postoperatively). On these models, RUI, humeroradial and humeroulnar subchondral joint space width (SJSW) as well as alignment of the proxim

Shoulder muscle function depends on elbow joint position: an illustration of dynamic coupling in the upper limb.

Shoulder muscle function has been documented based on muscle moment arms, lines of action and muscle contributions to contact force at the glenohumeral joint. At present, however, the contributions of individual muscles to shoulder joint motion have not been investigated, and the effects of shoulder and elbow joint position on shoulder muscle function are not well understood. The aims of this study were to compute the contributions of individual muscles to motion of the glenohumeral joint during abduction, and to examine the effect of elbow flexion on shoulder muscle function. A three-dimensio

Osteoarthritis in other joints (hip, elbow, foot, ankle, toes, wrist) after sports injuries.

Osteoarthritis of nonknee joints, although less common than knee osteoarthritis, remains a significant and disabling condition for many present and former athletes. These injuries can be caused by repeated loads or following a specific traumatic event. The resulting pain and loss of motion can limit function and ability. Arthroscopic techniques in many cases enable surgeons to symptomatically treat limitations of range of motion and pain, prolonging active careers. Joint replacement remains the ultimate solution for hip osteoarthritis, and may be a viable option in ankle osteoarthritis.

Ten years of experience in managing patients with burn contractures of axilla, elbow, wrist, and knee joints.

An analysis of 625 patients who had sustained burns across the axillae, elbows, wrists, or knee joints indicates that the use of splints and pressure across these joints will not only greatly decrease the incidence of contractures but will also reduce the frequency and need for release operations. However, these appliances must be used for at least 6 months (longer, if possible), if substantial benefits are to be obtained.

Radiological Anatomy of the Shoulder, Elbow and Carpal Joints in Southern Giant Pouched Rats (Cricetomys ansorgei).

Radiography is frequently used for the evaluation of the musculoskeletal system in domestic and wild animal species. The aim of the study was to document the radiological anatomy of the shoulder, elbow and carpal joints and to provide length measurements of selective forelimb bones in southern giant pouched rats. Forelimb radiographs were obtained in seven adult male and female southern giant pouched rats under general anaesthesia. All rats had a well-developed clavicle, coracoid process and acromion. The minor and major tubercles were located further distally relative to the head of the humer

Delayed Reconstruction Following Incarceration of the Medial Epicondyle in the Elbow Joint: A Case Report and Review of the Literature.

CASE: Neglected medial epicondylar fractures with intra-articular incarceration are uncommon. At 6 weeks after an elbow dislocation, an 11-year-old child was referred to our unit with painless, restricted range of motion. Clinical assessment and radiographic imaging revealed an incarcerated medial epicondylar fragment in the ulnohumeral joint. We performed open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) and transposed the ulnar nerve. The clinical and radiographic outcomes at the final follow-up were excellent. CONCLUSION: The management of neglected pediatric medial epicondylar fractures with in

Osteochondritis dissecans of both knees, both elbows, and the first metatarsophalangeal joint in a female soccer player.

A 19-year-old female soccer player presented for evaluation of pain at the base of the right hallux after a recent sports injury. She had a history of 4 operations, 1 each at both knees and both elbows, for the treatment of osteochondritis dissecans (OCD). Examination showed tenderness to palpation and limited range of motion of the first metatarsophalangeal (MP) joint, and radiographs showed stage 4 OCD of the first metatarsal head with a detached osseous fragment. Diagnostic arthroscopy confirmed the presence of OCD, and treatment included arthrotomy, excision of the loose body, and microfra

Arthroscopic, macroscopic, and microscopic anatomy of the synovial fold of the elbow joint in correlation with the common extensor origin.

PURPOSE: The objective of our study was to clarify the arthroscopic, macroscopic, and microscopic anatomy of the radiocapitellar synovial fold of the elbow joint in correlation with the common extensor origin. METHODS: We performed arthroscopy in 14 fresh-frozen cadaveric elbows and found the synovial fold covering the radial head or interposing in the radiocapitellar joint in 6. The fold was tagged with loop suture under arthroscopy to identify its exact location in gross anatomy. The radiocapitellar joint capsule was then resected without disturbing the continuity of the common extensor and

[The tele-visit as a telemedical technique in daily clinical practice. First results for elbow joint arthrolysis].

Technologies in telecommunication and information are being increasingly applied in the public health system of the western world. Also responsible for this development is the cost factor in the field of financing and maintenance of such a system of superior medical supply, as well as the concurrent patient' demand for optimized medical "24 h care and treatment". Pioneers in the use of telematic projects have, up until now, been large states such as the USA, Canada, Norway or Australia. Such projects have been used to provide, guarantee and maintain medical care in geographically remote region

Outcomes of Below-Elbow Versus Above-Elbow Immobilization in the Management of a Partial Triangular Fibrocartilage Complex Tear Without Distal Radio-Ulnar Joint Disruption: A Retrospective Study.

Background The triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC) is a crucial biomechanical structure that supports the distal radioulnar joint (DRUJ), forearm rotation, and load transfer along the ulnar aspect of the wrist. Conservative treatment is the preferred approach for managing stable TFCC injuries, but the techniques of immobilization remain a topic of debate. This study aims to evaluate whether above-elbow immobilization provides better pain relief, functional recovery, and fewer complications than below-elbow immobilization in the conservative treatment of partial TFCC tears without DRUJ dis

Rarely involved and high damage-burden joints in juvenile idiopathic arthritis: insights from the elbow, temporomandibular joint, cervical spine, hip, and shoulder.

UNLABELLED: The purpose of this study is to characterize clinical features, treatment patterns, and outcomes of rare and/or high damage-burden joints in juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA). Patients diagnosed with JIA between January 2008 and June 2025 were included in this retrospective study. Joints involved in less than 10% of the cohort were defined as "rarely involved," and joints contributing to the total JADI-A score of the cohort were defined as "high damage-burden" joints. Among 155 patients included, temporomandibular joint (TMJ) (7.7%), cervical spine (3.9%), and shoulder (1.9%) wer

Relationship between forearm flexor-pronator muscles activity and medial elbow joint gapping distance during repetitive baseball pitching.

BACKGROUND: Valgus stress on the elbow during pitching can exceed the tensile strength of the ulnar collateral ligament and is the primary cause of throwing-related elbow injuries. The forearm flexor-pronator muscles act as dynamic stabilizers against elbow valgus stress. However, the temporal changes in activity during repetitive pitching and their relationship with valgus stabilization remain unclear. This study aimed to investigate changes in the activity of the forearm flexor-pronator muscles and medial elbow joint gapping during repetitive pitching, and to examine their association. METH
