DMFNet: A Dynamic Multilevel Fusion Network for long-term multivariate water quality forecasting.

Accurate prediction of water quality parameters is essential for risk warning and intelligent management in aquaculture. However, water quality time series remain difficult to forecast because of time-varying cross-variable dependencies, coexisting periodic variations and abrupt changes, and the limited ability of existing models to preserve complex frequency components and local fluctuations. To address these challenges, we proposed a Dynamic Multilevel Fusion Network (DMFNet) for complex nonstationary water quality forecasting. First, a Dynamic Confidence Relation Graph (DCRG) constructs dyn

A probabilistic forecasting framework for neighbourhood-level disaggregation of electric vehicle adoption scenarios.

The rapid growth of electric vehicle (EV) adoption presents significant challenges for electricity networks, particularly at the low-voltage level, where clustered neighbourhood demand risks overloading infrastructure. Existing scenario-based planning approaches typically assume uniform EV uptake across neighbourhoods within a region, failing to capture the heterogeneity in historical EV registration data. They provide limited uncertainty quantification, despite the difficulty of predicting future adoption at fine spatial scales. This paper introduces a Gaussian process (GP)-based forecasting

TimeKAN: an adaptive frequency-decomposed Kolmogorov-Arnold network for long-term stock forecasting.

Real-world time series typically contain multiple intertwined frequency components, which poses significant challenges for accurate time series forecasting. Traditional methods adopt unified modeling strategies for different frequency components, often failing to fully capture the distinctive characteristics of each frequency component, resulting in limited prediction accuracy. Inspired by the powerful function approximation capability of Kolmogorov-Arnold Networks (KAN), this paper proposes TimeKAN, a KAN-based frequency decomposition learning architecture specifically designed for long-term

HAM-MSTF: A hybrid attention-based model for multi-task spatio-temporal forecasting.

Spatiotemporal forecasting plays a crucial role for optimal operations and decision making in various fields, including industries, transportation, healthcare and energy. However, spatiotemporal models are typically designed for a single task, failing to capture the inherent complexity and interrelationships among multiple tasks in real-world systems. To address this issue, we propose a hybrid attention-based model for multi-task spatiotemporal forecasting (HAM-MSTF) with the help of dual attention mechanisms. Unlike conventional single-task spatiotemporal forecasting, spatiotemporal multi-tas

Assessment of a deep learning model for algal toxin forecasting in coastal Maine.

Paralytic shellfish toxins (PST) are detected in seafood globally. Resource managers and seafood producers must make decisions in the face of toxic events in order to protect public health and operate businesses. The coast of Maine in the US sees the occurrence of PSTs annually, and fosters a robust shellfish industry composed of both wild harvest and recently increasing aquaculture. Leveraging monitoring data generated from chemical analysis of PST composition in shellfish, we present a method for grouping together consecutive samples to build a machine-learning training set and make short-te

Forecasting colorectal cancer screening in Japan: regional and sex disparities threaten national targets.

OBJECTIVE: To forecast prefecture-level progress toward Japan's 60% colorectal cancer (CRC) screening target by 2028 and quantify regional and sex-based disparities. METHODS: We extracted CRC screening rates (ages 40-69) for all 47 prefectures from 2013 to 2022 using the Comprehensive Survey of Living Conditions. Sex-stratified Bayesian linear regression models were applied to logit-transformed rates. Prefectures were considered likely to achieve the target if the probability of ≥ 60% uptake by 2028 was ≥ 80%. RESULTS: Nationwide coverage is projected to reach 51.9% (95% CrI 44.9-58.8%) by 2

A Transient Two-Phase Productivity Forecasting Method in Fractured Nanoporous Shale Gas Reservoirs.

Hydraulic fracturing is a critical technology for developing shale gas reservoirs, which are typical natural nanoporous media. However, the complex two-phase flow induced by fracturing fluid retention and the strong interference among hydraulic fractures introduce significant uncertainties to productivity forecasting. To address these challenges, this study proposes a transient productivity forecasting method to characterize fluid transport in fractured nanoporous media. This method introduces a gas-water two-phase pseudo-pressure function to reconstruct the flow equations, utilizing micro-seg

Blood plasma proteomic biomarkers for forecasting transition to psychosis in an Asian cohort.

Plasma proteomic biomarkers hold significant promise for enhancing clinical assessments and improving early detection of psychosis conversion; however, concerns about their reproducibility and generalizability persist. Previous studies, largely conducted in Caucasian cohorts, have identified proteomic biomarkers predictive of psychosis conversion in individuals at ultra-high risk (UHR) of psychosis. In this study, we acquired plasma proteomics data from an Asian UHR cohort, the Longitudinal Youth at Risk Study (LYRIKS). We established a robust machine learning framework, through which we devel

Foundation models for time series forecasting and policy evaluation in infectious disease epidemics.

Epidemic forecasting and public health policy evaluation rely on mathematical models, but traditional approaches struggle in data-limited settings. We evaluated whether transformer-based, foundation Artificial Intelligence models can serve as a new epidemic modeling framework. We tested five models across pathogens and locations, including influenza, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), chickenpox, dengue. Foundation models demonstrated strong accuracy in short-term forecasts and predicted multiple epidemic waves. They outperformed standard implementations of established models on limited and ir

Eco-epidemiological clustering and cluster-wise forecasting of dengue in Mexico, 2020-2025.

Dengue transmission varies markedly across Mexico, posing challenges for short-term operational planning. We propose a two-layer framework that (i) constructs incidence-free eco-epidemiological clusters for the 32 Mexican states and (ii) produces one-week-ahead forecasts of weekly dengue cases at the cluster level with quantified uncertainty, expressed through P10-P90 prediction bands. Our analysis covers 283 epidemiological weeks per state from 2020 to 2025, with all 32 states retained after meteorological quality control. Clusters are identified using full-covariance Gaussian mixture models

Forecasting mean deviation in glaucoma patients using an irregular autoregressive time series method.

Accurate forecasting of disease progression is vital in glaucoma management. Ordinary least square regression (OLSR) analyses are not appropriate to perform trend analysis on longitudinally collected perimetry data. This study examines the applicability of an irregular autoregressive of order 1 (IAR (1)) method to model mean deviation (MD) series and investigates if IAR (1) improves validity of the model and results better forecasts then OLSR. Longitudinal data from eyes with progressive glaucoma were used. A total of 1200 MD data from forty-two eyes were included in this study. MD series from

Forecasting invasive mosquito abundance in the Basque Country, Spain using machine learning techniques.

BACKGROUND: Mosquito-borne diseases cause millions of deaths each year and are increasingly spreading from tropical and subtropical regions into temperate zones, posing significant public health risks. In the Basque Country region of Spain, changing climatic conditions have driven the spread of invasive mosquitoes, increasing the potential for local transmission of diseases such as dengue, Zika, and chikungunya. The establishment of mosquito species in new areas, coupled with rising mosquito populations and viremic imported cases, presents challenges for public health systems in non-endemic re

Forecasting Dengue: Evaluating the Role of Hydroclimate Information in Subseasonal to Seasonal Prediction.

Dengue fever is a mosquito-borne viral disease rapidly creating a significant global public health burden, particularly in urban areas of tropical and sub-tropical countries. Hydroclimatic variables, particularly local temperature, precipitation, relative humidity, and large-scale climate teleconnections, can influence the prevalence of dengue by impacting vector population development, viral replication, and human-mosquito interactions. Leveraging predictions of these variables at lead times of weeks to months can facilitate early warning system preparatory actions such as allocating funding,

The time-dependent Poisson-gamma model in practice: Recruitment forecasting in HIV trials.

Despite a growing body of literature in the area of recruitment modeling for multicenter studies, in practice, statistical models to predict enrollments are rarely used and when they are, they often rely on unrealistic assumptions. The time-dependent Poisson-Gamma model (tPG) is a recently developed flexible methodology which allows analysts to predict recruitments in an ongoing multicenter trial, and its performance has been validated on data from a cohort study. In this article, we illustrate and further validate the tPG model on recruitment data from randomized controlled trials. Additional

Forecasting glucose values for patients with type 1 diabetes using heart rate data.

BACKGROUND: Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus (T1DM) is a chronic metabolic disease affecting millions of people worldwide. T1DM requires patients to continuously monitor their blood glucose levels. Due to pancreatic dysfunctions, patients use insulin injections to correct glucose values by synthetic insulin. Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) is a system which includes an algorithm allowing to measure (and in some cases to predict) glucose levels at a frequent sampling time. This enable implementing advanced devices, including automated insulin pump delivery. Nevertheless, CGM still presents some lim

Achieving China's CO2 reduction targets: Insights from a hybrid PPA-PPR forecasting model.

China is the largest carbon dioxide (CO2) emitter and has formulated CO2 emission peak and carbon-neutral plans. Studies on CO2 emission volume and CO2 emission intensity (CEI) indicate a growing interest in related fields. The purpose of this research is to improve the performance and reliability of the model for forecasting CO2 emissions and judging whether to achieve China's CO2 reduction targets under business-as-usual scenarios. We originally applied a novel hybrid model combining the projection pursuit regression (PPR) model and parasitism-predation optimization algorithm (PPA) (PPA-PPR)
