Alternative and New Radiopharmaceutical Agents for Lung Cancer.

BACKGROUND: FDG PET/CT imaging has an established role in lung cancer (LC) management. Whilst it is a sensitive technique, FDG PET/CT has a limited specificity in the differentiation between LC and benign conditions and is not capable of defining LC heterogeneity since FDG uptake varies between histotypes. OBJECTIVE: To get an overview of new radiopharmaceuticals for the study of cancer biology features beyond glucose metabolism in LC. METHODS: A comprehensive literature review of PubMed/Medline was performed using a combination of the following keywords: "positron emission tomography", "lun

PSMA Expression in Tumor Neovasculature Endothelial Cells of Follicular Thyroid Adenoma as Identified by Molecular Imaging Using 68Ga-PSMA Ligand PET/CT.

The prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) is expressed by both prostate cancer and other neoplasms. We report the case of a 65-year-old man with castration-resistant metastatic prostate cancer who underwent Ga-PSMA ligand PET/CT for restaging of disease. Ga-PSMA ligand accumulation was noted in a thyroid lesion, suspicious for thyroid malignancy on complementary ultrasound. Subsequent resection and histopathological analysis showed follicular thyroid adenoma with PSMA expression in tumor neovasculature endothelial cells, but not in thyroid epithelial cells. It is important to be aware that

In Vivo Visualization of Prostate-Specific Membrane Antigen in Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma of the Salivary Gland.

As the prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) is overexpressed in the neovasculature of several malignancies, it might serve as a target in oncology. Ga-PSMA PET/CT and PET/MRI were performed in a female who developed pulmonary metastases from an adenoid cystic carcinoma of the right sublingual salivary gland after incomplete resection of the primary tumor and radiotherapy. Uptake of Ga-PSMA in tumors was observed, indicating PSMA expression. Moreover, a new cerebral metastasis was detected. Potentially, Ga-PSMA PET might be used for noninvasive assessment of adenoid cystic carcinoma to eva
