Case report: Infantile generalized pustular psoriasis with IL36RN and CARD14 gene mutations.

Infantile pustular psoriasis (IPP) is an extremely rare skin disease associated with genetic factors. Gene mutations of IL36RN (interleukin-36 receptor antagonist), CARD14 (caspase recruitment family member 14), and AP1S1 (the σ1C subunit of the adaptor protein complex 1) had been identified to be involved in the pathogenesis of IPP. IPP usually develops with no preceding psoriasis vulgaris (PV) or familial history. Here, we report a case of a 6-month-old infant and make the diagnosis of IPP by a series of examinations; subsequently, by detecting coexistent mutations of IL36RN and CARD14, the

Spherocytosis in Newborn Secondary to Novel Heterozygous Mutation in SPTB Gene: Case Report.

This case report describes a novel mutation of the SPTB gene as a potential pathogenic cause of spherocytosis. A 3-week-old male presented with clinical and laboratory signs consistent with hemolytic spherocytosis, including jaundice, hyperbilirubinemia, anemia, reticulocytosis, negative Coombs test, no ABO or Rh incompatibility, and a peripheral blood smear notable for numerous spherocytes. His laboratory work demonstrated persistent anemia despite daily folate prompting next-generation sequencing which revealed a novel mutation in the SPTB gene resulting in a nonfunctioning protein product.

Mucoepidermoid carcinoma of the esophagus with MAML2 gene rearrangement: Case report and literature review.

Mucoepidermoid carcinoma (MEC) is the most common salivary gland malignancy but rarely occurs in the esophagus. It is easily confused with adenosquamous carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) with mucus-secreting components. MAML2 gene rearrangement detected by fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), RT-PCR or next-generation sequencing (NGS) can aid in the diagnosis. We present a case of esophageal MEC with MAML2 gene rearrangement detected by FISH. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of an esophageal MEC with MAML2 gene rearrangement. We also reveal that esophageal

Case Report and Literature Review: Behçet's Disease With a Novel TFPI Gene Mutation.

We report a case of Behçet's disease (BD) with a newly identified tissue factor pathway inhibitor (TFPI) gene mutation. The patient suffered from recurrent deep vein thrombosis and dural sinus thrombosis which could not be relieved by constant anticoagulation therapy. Slight relapsing oral lesion was the initial manifestation of BD but was neglected. Genital ulcers and ocular symptoms were manifest 8-month later than vascular involvement. The patient was diagnosed with BD at last and a novel mutation in TFPI was identified simultaneously. After administration with azathioprine and dexamethason

White Sponge Nevus Caused by Keratin 4 Gene Mutation: A Case Report.

White sponge nevus (WSN) is a rare autosomal dominant disease with a family history, often caused by mutations of the keratin 4 (K4) and keratin 13 (K13) genes in patients. It is characterized by frequently occurred white corrugated folds in the bilateral buccal mucosa with soft texture. On histopathological examination, hyperkeratosis of epithelial cells, edema, and vacuolar changes in the spinous cells are observed in the lesions, despite a normal layer of basal cells. WSN should be differentiated from other oral white spot diseases, mainly oral lichen planus, oral candidiasis, oral white ed

Progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy in a patient with novel mutation in the RAC2 gene: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy is a rare demyelinating disease that is often secondary to lytic destruction of oligodendrocytes and, to a lesser extent, to astrocytes' response to human neurotrophic John Cunningham polyomavirus. Any underlying congenital disorder of primary or secondary immunodeficiency may predispose to virus infection and possible invasion of the brain. We present the first reported case of progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy due to a mutation in the RAC2 gene. CASE PRESENTATION: We describe the case of a 34-year-old Iranian man with recurrent

Two Novel Variants in Genes of Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy - a Case Report.

SUMMARY BACKGROUND: Arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy (ARVC) is a heritable cardiomyopathy, characterized by fibrofatty replacement of myocytes in the right ventricular, left ventricular or both ventricles. It is caused by pathogenic variants of genes encoding desmosomal (JUP, DSP, PKP2, DSG2, DSC2) and non-desmosomal proteins, and is one of the most common causes of sudden cardiac death in young athletes. Therefore, early identification, correct prevention and treatment can prevent adverse outcomes. CASE REPORT: Our case presents a 65-years-old man with recurrent ventricular ta

Ichthyosis: case report in a Colombian man with genetic alterations in ABCA12 and HRNR genes.

BACKGROUND: Ichthyosis is a heterogeneous group of diseases caused by genetic disorders related to skin formation. They are characterized by generalized dry skin, scaling, hyperkeratosis and frequently associated with erythroderma. Among its different types, harlequin ichthyosis (HI) stands out due to its severity. HI is caused by mutations in the ABCA12 gene, which encodes essential proteins in epidermal lipid transport, and it helps maintain the homeostasis of the stratum corneum of the epidermis. However, due to the wide spectrum of genetic alterations that can cause ichthyosis, holistic me
