An incidental finding of an ectopic intrauterine device (IUD) in the urinary bladder wall in a female presented with missed abortion.

Uterine perforation and migration of intrauterine devices (IUDs) are rare complications that can present significant clinical challenges. We report the case of a 28-year-old woman who came in with a missed abortion at 11 weeks of gestation and was unexpectedly found to have an IUD embedded in the wall of her urinary bladder. She had a history of 5 pregnancies and a copper IUD was inserted a year ago. Although she presented with mild vaginal bleeding, there were no typical urinary symptoms to suggest a problem. However, imaging revealed the copper IUD had migrated outside the uterus and lodged

Symptomatic secondary vesical calculus formed on an intrauterine contraceptive device inserted 25 years previously.

A 57-year-old postmenopausal woman presented with vague lower abdominal symptoms, dysuria and recurrent urinary tract infection of a year's duration. She had an intrauterine contraceptive device (IUCD) inserted 25 years previously and denied having any significant gynecological or urinary tract symptoms since the device was inserted. CT scan of her pelvis confirmed the presence of an IUCD that had migrated into the urinary bladder and on which a calculus had formed. An attempt at removal of the calculus and IUCD during cystoscopy failed. At cystolithotomy, the IUCD and the calculus were remove

Giant exophytic cystic adenomyosis with a levonorgestrel containing intrauterine device out of the uterine cavity after uterine myomectomy: A case report.

BACKGROUND: A cystic lesion arising from the myometrium of the uterus, termed as cystic adenomyosis, has chocolate-like, thick viscous contents and contains various amounts of endometrial stroma below the glandular epithelium. It is an extremely rare type of adenomyosis. CASE SUMMARY: Herein, we report an unusual case of a giant cystic mass in the pelvic cavity after uterine myomectomy. The patient complained of abnormal uterine bleeding and severe dysmenorrhea. After a levonorgestrel-containing intrauterine device (LNG-IUD) was inserted, her symptoms were greatly alleviated. However, the LNG

[Application of levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system in early pregnancy: a case report].

Intrauterine device is a popular cost-effective method of contraception known worldwide. It is extremely effective, with pregnancy rates comparable to tubal ligation (5-year cumulative rate varying from 0.5 to 1.1). LNG-IUS increases in popularity and may be used as the method of choice for adults because it offers non-contraceptive benefits: slight menstrual bleeding, decreased number of incidents of dysmenorrhea, and reduced pain associated with endometriosis. The levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system (LNG-IUS) provides a release rate of 20 microg/24 h of levonorgestrel. The hormone r

[Extrauterine mislocated IUD].

Intrauterine contraceptive device (IUD) is a safe and effective method of contraception, widely used all over the world. The most common IUD complications include heavy bleeding, painful cramps, expulsion, complete or partial uterine perforation, infertility caused by pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), and an increased risk for septic and spontaneous abortion in cases of pregnancy with an IUD in situ. A potentially serious complication is the perforation of the uterus, with reported incidence of 0.5-1/1000 insertions. After perforation, devices have been found in various locations in the pelvi

Removal of foreign bodies embedded in the urinary bladder wall by a combination of laparoscopy and carbon dioxide cystoscopic assistance: Case report and literature review.

PURPOSE: To report a case of combined laparoscopic and carbon dioxide partial cystectomy and foreign body removal and to review the existing literature on the topic. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A 43-year-old Asian woman was found to have an intrauterine device embedded in the bladder wall during evaluation for chronic pelvic pain and urinary tract infection. She underwent cystoscopic-laparoscopic partial cystectomy, with an uncomplicated postoperative course. She had normal renal function during the follow-up period. This case demonstrates the possibility and safety of performing cystoscopic-lapar

Intrauterine device embedded into the bladder wall with stone formation: laparoscopic removal is a minimally invasive alternative to open surgery.

Spontaneous perforation of the uterus and intravesical intrauterine device (IUD) is very rare. The treatment options for an intravesical IUD are open surgery or cystoscopic removal. Open surgery has been used generally for the removal of IUDs with formation of big stones or partial penetration of the bladder wall. In this case, we removed an IUD (multiload Cu 375) with calculus that had sunk deeply into the bladder wall via laparoscopic partial cystectomy.

Delayed diagnosis of concurrent intrauterine and intraperitoneal intrauterine devices following assumed expulsion: A case report.

INTRODUCTION: Intrauterine devices (IUDs) are effective long-term contraceptives. Although rare, IUD migration can lead to severe complications if undiagnosed. Migration may present with pain, or remain asymptomatic, and unvisualized devices are often presumed expelled without confirmation. CASE PRESENTATION: A 40-year-old African female, Para 2 Living 2, presented with a two-week history of intermittent dull right lower abdominal pain and a history of heavy menstrual bleeding managed with a myomectomy and contraceptive methods. A copper IUD (Cu-IUD) was inserted ten years prior to presentati

Laparoscopic removal of migratory intrauterine contraceptive device to the bladder : A Case report and literature review.

The intrauterine contraceptive device (IUCD) is the most frequently used method of reversible contraception with high efficacy. Despite these benefits, rare complications, such as spontaneous migration of the device into adjacent organs, particularly the bladder, are possible. Minimally invasive surgery is a safe and effective procedure with few complications for the management of migrated IUCDs. We presented a 36-year-old multiparous woman referred by her gynecologist who had an IUCD inserted 4 years prior. She had been experiencing dysuria and lower abdomen pain for 3 months. Ultrasonography

324 cases of misplaced IUCD--a 5-year study.

Copper-T remains the mainstay of family planning measures in developing countries but is associated with serious complications like bleeding, perforation and migration to adjacent organs or omentum. Patients with misplaced intrauterine contraceptive device (IUCD) may present with pregnancy or lost strings or may remain asymptomatic for years. In our series of 324 cases with misplaced IUCD1; in 258 (79.93%) cases copper-T was found in the uterine cavity and in 47 cases (14.51%) it was removed from cervical canal. In only 18 cases (5.56%), it was translocated and of these 66.67% were inserted at

Intraperitoneal Levonorgestrel-Releasing Intrauterine Device in a Patient With a Kidney Stone: A Case Report.

This report presents a rare case of a previously placed intrauterine device (IUD) subsequently found freely floating in the peritoneal cavity in a patient presenting with a kidney stone. A woman in her early 30s with a history of levonorgestrel IUD placement four years prior presented to the emergency department with sudden-onset, sharp, severe left lower quadrant pain. A CT scan demonstrated a 5 mm obstructing ureteral stone in the distal left ureter as well as an IUD in the inferior peritoneal cavity with no free air or bowel injury. This case, in the context of current literature surroundin

Incomplete Removal of an Intrauterine Device Perforating the Sigmoid Colon.

Intrauterine devices (IUDs) are widely used for contraception in South Korea. However, several complications of IUDs have been reported, including inflammation, obstruction, perforation, and fistula. IUD perforation is the rarest of these complications but is also severe. Migrated IUDs can be retrieved through endoscopy, laparoscopy, or laparotomy. Presented below is an atypical case of an IUD perforating the sigmoid colon, which could not be removed endoscopically, and was subsequently incompletely removed through laparoscopic surgery. The present case underlines the importance of appropriate

Ectopic Intrauterine Device Revealed by Ureteral Colic in a 37-Week Pregnant Woman: Case Report.

Copper T intrauterine devices (IUDs) are a popular long-acting reversible contraceptive method. The most common reasons for contraceptive failure are expulsion and extrauterine migration. We report a case of a 28-year-old female, G13P3, 37 weeks pregnant, who presented to the hospital for left abdominal flank pain. The patient was admitted for treatment of left ureteral colic. The woman went into labour, and Caesarean Section was performed due to foetal distress. During the surgery, an inspection of the peritoneal cavity revealed a copper IUD embedded in the granulous tissue located in the lef

Rectal Perforation by an Intrauterine Device Leading to Fatal Intra-Abdominal Sepsis and Necrotizing Fasciitis.

BACKGROUND: Colorectal injury from an intrauterine device (IUD) is rare but may lead to major complications. CASE: A 55-year-old woman presented to a tertiary care hospital with 4 days of generalized weakness, confusion, dysuria, and lower back pain. She provided a vague history of an unsuccessful attempt to remove an IUD 30 years prior. A computed tomography scan demonstrated an IUD in the rectal lumen, with gluteal and pelvic gas and fluid collections. Emergency surgery found necrotizing fasciitis. Is It a "Colon Perforation"? A Case Report and Review of the Literature.

BACKGROUND: Intrauterine devices (IUDs) are commonly used as a contraceptive method. IUD migration and colon perforation are rare but serious complications occurring sometimes years after insertion. CASE: A 42-year-old woman with complaints of slight abdominal pain underwent a colonoscopy. Colonoscopy showed that a "nail" had penetrated the ascending colon wall and that an arm of the "nail" was embedded in the colon wall. We did not remove the "nail" rashly under colonoscopy. Considering the safety and effectiveness of the patient's operation, we were able to remove the "nail" easily by perfo
