Biliary mucinous cystic neoplasms (BMCNs) are rare tumors that account for less than 5% of cystic lesions in the biliary tract, predominantly affecting middle-aged women and often presenting as asymptomatic or with nonspecific symptoms. The primary treatment is surgical resection with negative margins. We report a case of grade I non-invasive BMCN that was completely extrahepatic, treated with biliary resection and hepaticojejunostomy. A 42-year-old female with a history of type 2 diabetes was referred for multiple episodes of acute cholangitis. Magnetic resonance cholangiography revealed comp

Adenoid cystic carcinoma is a relatively rare epithelial tumor of the major and minor salivary glands that makes up less than 1% of head and neck neoplasms. The typical clinical and pathological findings of this neoplasm include slow growth, perineural invasion, multiple local recurrences, and distant metastasis. Herein, we report a patient with adenoid cystic carcinoma located to the lower lip which is quite uncommon.

This article reviews worldwide controversies concerning gestational trophoblastic neoplasms (hydatidiform mole, invasive mole, and choriocarcinoma). The epidemiology, endocrinology, histopathologic grading, classification, diagnosis, treatment, management and follow-up (including chemotherapy, irradiation, and immunotherapy) of gestational trophoblastic neoplasms - particularly molar pregnancies - are discussed; and ways to help create a standardized classification system and provide optimal treatment for each type of patient are suggested.

Locally invasive thymic neoplasms are challenging clinical scenarios and typically require a multidisciplinary approach. The involvement of major mediastinal veins such as the superior vena cava (SVC) used to be a contraindication to surgery, but with improved surgical technique and outcomes, this paradigm has shifted. In some situations, complex resections and reconstructions may be indicated and required to improve the long-term outcome of these patients. We report two of our cases along with a current review of literature. We also describe the preoperative workup, operative techniques, post

Vulvar extramammary Paget's disease (EMPD) is an uncommon disease entity that occurs predominantly in postmenopausal white women. The clinical behavior of this neoplasm is extremely variable, reflecting the various histological patterns that have been reported with this lesion. Flow cytometry has been used as a method of obtaining prognostic information about a number of gynecological neoplasms, yet to date there have been no flow cytometric studies performed on this unusual neoplasm. We performed flow cytometric analysis of 14 cases of paraffin-embedded vulvar EMPD in patients ranging from 45

The phenotypic classification of pancreatic neoplasms is based on their cellular lineage. Thus, tumors with a ductal, acinar and endocrine phenotype can be distinguished. Most pancreatic neoplasms show a ductal phenotype and can be classified as ductal adenocarcinomas. Less common tumors with a ductal phenotype are the variants of ductal adenocarcinoma, intraductal papillary-mucinous neoplasm (including colloid carcinoma), mucinous cystic neoplasm, medullary carcinoma and other rare tumors. Ductal adenocarcinomas most likely develop on the basis of ductal proliferative lesions arising in the p

Primitive tumor of the liver, associated with cirrhosis with 40-80% of incidence, isn't one of the most common malignant neoplasms in the western area but it holds low survival and diminished possibilities of radical exeresis. A few years ago it has enrolled several non-invasive imaging-guided techniques, alternative or complementary to surgery, for the treatment of hepatic carcinoma. The authors carried out a review of the literature of the past years referring to no invasive imaging guided techniques for the treatment of liver neoplasms and they describe the therapeutical indications, advant

Carcinoma developing in a fibroadenoma correspond, according to current criteria, to neoplasms inclused in fibroadenomas. One personal case and 42 others from the literature fall within this definition. These neoplasms, small in size, are asymptomatic. The average age of the patients at the time of discovery of the lesion was 44 years. Two thirds of these carcinomas were lobular in type (29 cases), the others being invasive (7 cases) or non-invasive (7 cases) galactophoric carcinomas. Lobular carcinomas in situ (25 cases) involved, at the same time, one or more fibroadenomas and the remaining

A solid pseudopapillary neoplasm of the pancreas is a rare tumor accounting for 1-2% of exocrine pancreatic neoplasms and around 5% of cystic pancreatic lesions in adults. It predominantly affects young women and is usually diagnosed incidentally due to its non-specific clinical presentation. Although its exact cause is unclear, it is believed to originate from pluripotent cells of the genital ridges. We report the case of a 26-year-old female patient with an asymptomatic epigastric mass. An magnetic resonance scan revealed a large, heterogeneous lesion in the head of the pancreas, with no evi

Sinonasal undifferentiated carcinoma is a rare, highly aggressive neoplasm of the paranasal sinuses. Approximately 40 cases of this neoplasm have been reported to date. Microscopically, this neoplasm is composed of medium-sized cohesive cells arranged in nests, ribbons, and trabeculae having hyperchromatic nuclei, often with prominent nucleoli. A high mitotic rate, tumor necrosis, and prominent vascular invasion are conspicuous features. Squamous or glandular differentiation is not observed at the light-microscopic level. It appears to be a unique, distinctive clinicopathologic process that mu

BACKGROUND: Bladder leiomyomas are benign neoplasms of the bladder. Giant bladder leiomyomas are rare and conventionally treated by partial cystectomy.
CASE PRESENTATION: We present the case of a 51-year-old woman diagnosed with a bladder leiomyoma measuring 8.0 cm in diameter. The tumor was successfully removed through transurethral resection of bladder tumors (TURBT), which was completely recorded on video.
CONCLUSION: This case underscores the successful removal of a giant bladder leiomyoma by TURBT, resulting in a good prognosis. It highlights the potential for minimally invasive managem

BACKGROUND: Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) represents the method of choice for removal of large colorectal neoplasms with suspected submucosal invasion. Presence and degree of submucosal fibrosis increases ESD duration and technical complexity, reduces the rate of curative resection and reduces safety profile. The aim of the study was to identify pre-procedural predictive factors of submucosal fibrosis in naïve colorectal neoplasms and to assess the impact of fibrosis on technical and clinical ESD outcomes.
METHODS: All consecutive ESD performed between 2014 and 2021 were retrieved fr

BACKGROUND The World Health Organization classification of premalignant gallbladder lesions includes adenomas, intraductal papillary neoplasms, biliary intraepithelial neoplasia, and intracystic papillary neoplasms. Noninvasive neoplastic lesions >1 cm that originate from the pancreatobiliary system are defined as intraductal papillary neoplasia when they occur in the biliary ducts. The clinical and pathological features of preinvasive lesions arising in the gallbladder are not yet well defined. However, the most widely accepted classification is that of intracholecystic papillary neoplasm (IC

Perineural involvement of a cutaneous neoplasm marks an aggressive feature. Tumors with perineural involvement share an increased propensity for local invasion via perineural spread. Formication may be an indicator of perineural involvement by cutaneous neoplasms. We present a case of an 82-year-old man with perineural involvement of a squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) identified by clinical symptoms of formication. Successful resolution of these symptoms was achieved with radiation therapy.

Cholangiocarcinoma represents the second most frequent type of primary liver cancer that develops through a multistep histopathologic sequence. Dysplasia in the biliary tract epithelium is a precursor lesion of cholangiocarcinoma. This review provides a practical overview of bile duct dysplasia in relation to invasive carcinoma, covering clinicopathological features, diagnostic criteria, differential diagnosis, useful testing modalities, and challenges in daily practice. The key features of biliary intraepithelial neoplasia, intraductal papillary neoplasm, intraductal tubulopapillary neoplasm,

BACKGROUND: In general, serous cystic neoplasms of the pancreas are thought to be benign. Malignant serous cystic neoplasm of the pancreas is a rare clinical entity.
CASE REPORT: We report the case of an 87-year-old woman with a serous microcystic neoplasm in the tail of the pancreas that behaved in a malignant fashion. The neoplasm had also invaded the colonic mesentery and splenic hilum. The pancreatic lesion was diagnosed as a large malignant serous cystic neoplasm, and the patient underwent distal pancreatectomy with splenectomy and segmental colectomy. The resected specimen contained a l

Intracholecystic papillary neoplasm (ICPN) is a recently proposed gallbladder neoplasm. Its prevalence and pathologies remain to be clarified. A total of 38 ICPN cases (28 ICPNs identified among 1904 cholecystectomies (1.5%) and in 100 surgically resected primary gallbladder neoplasms (28%) in Fukui Prefecture Saiseikai Hospital, Japan, and other 10 ICPNs) were examined pathologically and immunohistochemically. They were composed of 21 males and 17 females with a mean age of 75 years old, and presented intraluminal growth of papillary lesions with fine fibrovascular stalks. ICPNs were relative

BACKGROUND: Positron emission-computed tomography (PET) scans are obtained from the accumulation of a radiotracer in tissues with altered metabolism, such as malignant neoplasms. The authors present their experience with PET, performed in 50 selected patients with lung neoplasms in the 1998-2000 period.
METHODS: The indications to PET corresponded to those most frequently reported in the literature, that is: diagnosis in solitary pulmonary nodule 8 patients; mediastinal lymph node staging, 16 patients; re-evaluation after neo-adjuvant therapy, 21 patients; increased markers blood levels in th
