Two for the GOES: Exploring Gambling Outcome Expectancies Scores Across Mixed and Offline-Only Gamblers in Relation to Problem Gambling Risk Status.

As online gambling becomes more prevalent, understanding the motives of online gamblers has become a key focus for research and practice. The aim of this study was to understand differences in gambling-related outcome expectancies between mixed (both online and offline) gamblers and offline-only gamblers, by incorporating gambling harm risk categories from the problem gambling severity index (PGSI). This study comprised a secondary data analysis of the 2015 Northern Territory Gambling Prevalence and Wellbeing Survey. A sample of 1207 individuals in the Northern Territory who had reported gambl

Childhood outcomes after induction of labor or expectant management for preterm prelabor rupture of membranes: a 10-year follow-up of the PPROMEXIL trials.

BACKGROUND: Management of late preterm prelabor rupture of membranes between 34+0 and 36+6 weeks' gestation balances the risks of preterm birth with the risks of infection for both the mother and the neonate. Expectant management to prolong pregnancy showed similar risks of neonatal sepsis, but children at 2 years of age showed more neurodevelopmental delay when compared with induction of labor. Long-term outcomes on child development after 2 years of age are unknown. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to assess the long-term outcomes of children born after singleton pregnancies complicated by late

Mechanisms of exposure and response prevention in obsessive-compulsive disorder: effects of habituation and expectancy violation on short-term outcome in cognitive behavioral therapy.

BACKGROUND: Exposure and response prevention is effective and recommended as the first choice for treating obsessive-compulsive disorders (OCD). Its mechanisms of action are rarely studied, but two major theories make distinct assumptions: while the emotional processing theory assumes that treatment effects are associated with habituation within and between exposure sessions, the inhibitory learning approach highlights the acquisition of additional associations, implying alternative mechanisms like expectancy violation. The present study aimed to investigate whether process variables derived f

Within- and between-patients associations between self-efficacy, outcome expectation, and symptom change in cognitive behavioral therapy for generalized anxiety disorder.

OBJECTIVES: There is limited information on how a change in patients' expectations over time results in symptom change in psychotherapy. This study aimed to investigate the changes in patients' expectations and symptoms during treatment and across follow-up as well as to determine the within- and between-patient relationships between two types of patient expectations, that is, self-efficacy and outcome expectation, and symptom change. METHODS: Participants (80 participants × 6 repeated measures; 480 observations) with generalized anxiety disorder were treated using cognitive behavioral therap

Tocophobia in the DSM-5 era: Outcomes of a new cut-off analysis of the Wijma delivery expectancy/experience questionnaire based on clinical presentation.

INTRODUCTION AND AIMS: Diagnosis of tocophobia using existing instruments is an area of active investigation. Although a range of Wijma Delivery Experience Questionnaire (W-DEQ) cut-off scores has been suggested for detecting tocophobia, there is no consensus among researchers about an optimal cut-off score. The primary goal of the present study was to identify a cut-off value while referring to the DSM-5 Specific Phobia criteria as a gold standard, and to accordingly evaluate how the fearful component of the childbirth experience and psychopathology in the post-natal period are affected by to

Orbitofrontal cortex and amygdalar over-activity is associated with an inability to use the value of expected outcomes to guide behaviour in serotonin transporter knockout rats.

A disturbance in 5-HT signalling can lead to maladaptive and disruptive behavioural changes seen in neuropsychiatric disorders, potentially by 5-HT's role in cognitive control over behaviour. 5-HT levels are tightly controlled by the serotonin transporter (5-HTT). We and others have observed that 5-HTT availability affects reversal learning. Here we investigated the role of 5-HT in another type of cognitive control, which is the ability to use the value of expected outcomes to guide behaviour. 5-HTT knockout (5-HTT(-/-)) rats and wild-type (5-HTT(+/+)) controls were subjected to a Pavlovian re

Reproductive outcomes after expectant management and 5- versus 15-minute laparoscopic ethanol sclerotherapy for ovarian endometriomas: a retrospective cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Laparoscopic ethanol sclerotherapy is a fertility-preserving alternative for ovarian endometriomas, but the appropriate ethanol exposure duration remains uncertain. We compared expectant management with 5- and 15-minute ethanol retention protocols. METHODS: This retrospective cohort study included 333 infertile women with ovarian endometriomas ≥4 cm and complete cumulative reproductive follow-up: expectant management (n=125), 5-minute (n=124), or 15-minute (n=84) laparoscopic ethanol sclerotherapy. Multinomial propensity scores and inverse probability of treatment weighting (IPTW)

The serial effect of bullying victimization and aggression outcome expectancies on within-person changes in proactive aggression among adolescents across one year.

The mechanisms of within-person changes in proactive aggression among senior high school students remain unclear. A Victimization-Expectancy Model of Proactive Aggression (VEMPA), inspired by ideas of the General Aggression Model (GAM) and Social Learning Theory (SLT), was developed to address this issue. Specifically, we conducted a longitudinal study to examine how bullying victimization has an effect on within-person changes in proactive aggression through positive aggression outcome expectancies (positive AOE) in 641 senior high school students (43.1% girls, Mage = 16.76 years, SD = 0.68)

Induction of labour versus expectant management after one previous caesarean birth maternal and neonatal outcomes in a population-based cohort study.

To investigate maternal and neonatal outcomes after induction of labour (IOL), across all indications, compared with expectant management at term among women with prior caesarean section (CS). Women with one prior CS planned for vaginal birth 2007-2020 (N = 38 689). IOL was investigated as a continuum in days and compared with expectant management (EM; onset of birth one day or more later). The risk of severe and moderate maternal and neonatal outcomes at gestational week 37-42 was compared between IOL and EM using a multivariable logistic regression model. Results are presented as adjusted ab

Clinical examination for identifying low-risk pregnancies suitable for expectant management beyond 40-41 gestational weeks: maternal and fetal outcomes.

PURPOSE: There is an ongoing discussion on whether the benefits of term elective labor induction outweigh its potential risks. This study evaluated the utility of a comprehensive clinical examination in identifying low-risk pregnancies suitable for expectant management beyond gestational age 40‒41 weeks and compared their outcomes with earlier labor induction by indication. METHODS: Pregnant women (n = 722) with ≥ 40 + 0 gestational weeks referred to a tertiary hospital were included in this prospective cohort. The study population was divided into the primary induction group (induction befor

Outcomes among Nulliparous Women Undergoing Nonmedically Indicated Induction of Labor at 39 Weeks Compared with Expectant Management Differ by Maternal Age.

OBJECTIVE: Prior studies have demonstrated the potential benefit of nonmedically indicated induction of labor for nulliparous women at 39 weeks of gestation, yet few have studied the impact of this management strategy in different maternal age groups on obstetric outcomes. We sought to assess whether obstetric outcomes among women undergoing nonmedically indicated induction of labor at 39 weeks of gestation as compared with expectant management vary based on maternal age. STUDY DESIGN: This was a retrospective cohort study of singleton, nonanomalous, deliveries between 2007 and 2012 in Califo

Pregnancy outcomes of dichorionic triamniotic triplet pregnancies after in vitro fertilization-embryo transfer: multifoetal pregnancy reduction versus expectant management.

BACKGROUND: Trichorionic triplet pregnancy reduction to twin pregnancy is associated with a lower risk of preterm delivery but not with a lower risk of miscarriage. However, data on dichorionic triamniotic (DCTA) triplet pregnancy outcomes are lacking. This study aimed to compare the pregnancy outcomes of DCTA triplets conceived via in vitro fertilization-embryo transfer (IVF-ET) managed expectantly or reduced to a monochorionic (MC) singleton or monochorionic diamniotic (MCDA) twins at 11-13+ 6 gestational weeks. METHODS: Two hundred ninety-eight patients with DCTA triplets conceived via IVF
