Palladium [ t‑Bu(PCP)PdOH] Pincer Complex as a Catalyst in the Michael Reaction.

The Michael reaction is a versatile carbon-carbon bond-forming strategy that is efficiently catalyzed by transition metal complexes. We report that the palladium [ t‑Bu(PCP)-PdOH] pincer complex effectively activates substrates and forms stable complexes with ketones. The reactive intermediate [ t‑Bu(PCP)-Pd-(acac)] complex, which is formed in situ from acetylacetone and the [ t‑Bu(PCP)-PdOH] complex, was successfully isolated and structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. This complex serves as an active catalyst in the reaction between acetylacetone and various trans-nit

tBuONO as the Co-catalyst in Palladium-Catalyzed Aerobic α,β-Dehydrogenation of Ketones.

tBuONO was used as an efficient organo co-catalyst for the palladium-catalyzed oxidative α,β-dehydrogenation of ketones. Molecular oxygen was used as the clean and sole oxidant. Both linear and cyclic α,β-unsaturated ketones could be efficiently prepared under aerobic catalytic conditions directly from the corresponding saturated ketones. No toxic transition metal co-catalyst or polar solvent is required. The organic nitrite redox co-catalyst and alcohol solvent play key roles for realizing this catalysis.

Effect of Support and Polymer Modifier on the Catalytic Performance of Supported Palladium Catalysts in Hydrogenation.

In this study, we investigated the influence of polymer nature and support characteristics on the performance of Pd-based heterogeneous catalysts. Catalysts were prepared via sequential adsorption of poly(4-vinylpyridine) (P4VP) or chitosan (CS) and palladium ions onto MgO and SBA-15 supports under ambient conditions. The resulting hybrid materials were characterized by IR spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and X-ray photoelectron spectra (XPS). TEM analysis revealed that Pd nanoparticles with an average size of 2-3 nm were well-dispersed

Palladium(II) Complexes of Substituted Salicylaldehydes: Synthesis, Characterization and Investigation of Their Biological Profile.

Five palladium(II) complexes of substituted salicylaldehydes (X-saloH, X = 4-Et2N (for 1), 3,5-diBr (for 2), 3,5-diCl (for 3), 5-F (for 4) or 4-OMe (for 5)) bearing the general formula [Pd(X-salo)2] were synthesized and structurally characterized. The crystal structure of complex [Pd(4-Et2N-salo)2] was determined by single-crystal X-ray crystallography. The complexes can scavenge 1,1-diphenyl-picrylhydrazyl and 2,2'-azinobis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) radicals and reduce H2O2. They are active against two Gram-positive (Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis) and two Gram-nega

Inhibition of Sulfate Reduction and Cell Division by Desulfovibrio desulfuricans Coated in Palladium Metal.

The growth of sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) and associated hydrogen sulfide production can be problematic in a range of industries such that inhibition strategies are needed. A range of SRB can reduce metal ions, a strategy that has been utilized for bioremediation, metal recovery, and synthesis of precious metal catalysts. In some instances, the metal remains bound to the cell surface, and the impact of this coating on bacterial cell division and metabolism has not previously been reported. In this study, Desulfovibrio desulfuricans cells (1g dry weight) enabled the reduction of up to 1500

Selective modification of a native protein in a patient tissue homogenate using palladium nanoparticles.

We have developed new benign palladium nanoparticles able to catalyze the Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reaction on human thyroglobulin (Tg), a naturally iodinated protein produced by the thyroid gland, in homogenates from patients' tissues. This represents the first example of a chemoselective native protein modification using transition metal nanoobjects in near-organ medium.

Palladium-catalyzed direct sulfonylation of C-H bonds with the insertion of sulfur dioxide.

A palladium-catalyzed direct sulfonylation of C-H bonds with the insertion of sulfur dioxide under mild conditions is reported. The sulfonylative couplings with the insertion of sulfur dioxide into C-H bonds are effective, and two classes of sulfonylative products are formed in moderate to good yields by the combination of radical chemistry and palladium-catalyzed C-H activation.

Phosphaannulation by palladium-catalyzed carbonylation of C-H bonds of phosphonic and phosphinic acids.

An efficient phosphaannulation by Pd-catalyzed carbonylation of C-H bonds of phosphonic and phosphinic acids for the synthesis of oxaphosphorinanone oxides is reported. These compounds are novel phosphorus heterocyclic scaffolds, thus opening a new avenue to sequential C-C/C-O bond formation in one pot.

Detection of nickel and palladium contact hypersensitivity by a flow cytometric lymphocyte proliferation test.

We established a flow cytometric lymphocyte proliferation test (LPT) for the detection of nickel (Ni) and palladium (Pd) sensitization. Eighty-one consecutive patients with an indication for patch test (PT) were tested by LPT with Ni (NiSO4 ) and Pd (Na2 PdCl4 and PdCl2 ) salts. The imprecision of the LPT was low (coefficient of variation 7.2%). Using PT as a diagnostic reference, the sensitivity and specificity of LPT were 74.4% and 80% for NiSO4 , 74.4% and 78.3% for Na2 PdCl4 , and 57.2% and 85.4% for PdCl2 , respectively. For both Ni and Pd, the likelihood ratio for a positive PT markedly

Recent developments and perspectives in palladium-catalyzed cyanation of aryl halides: synthesis of benzonitriles.

The palladium-catalyzed cyanation of Ar-X (X = I, Br, Cl, OTf, and H) allows for an efficient access towards benzonitriles. After its discovery in 1973 and following significant improvements in recent decades, this methodology has become nowadays the most popular for preparation of substituted aromatic nitriles. In this critical review, we summarize the important developments in this area from 2000 until 2010 (151 references).

Remediation of trichloroethylene by bio-precipitated and encapsulated palladium nanoparticles in a fixed bed reactor.

Trichloroethylene is a toxic and recalcitrant groundwater pollutant. Palladium nanoparticles bio-precipitated on Shewanella oneidensis were encapsulated in polyurethane, polyacrylamide, alginate, silica or coated on zeolites. The reactivity of these bio-Pd beads and zeolites was tested in batch experiments and trichloroethylene dechlorination followed first order reaction kinetics. The calculated k-values of the encapsulated catalysts were a factor of six lower compared to non-encapsulated bio-Pd. Bio-Pd, used as a catalyst, was able to dechlorinate 100 mgL(-1) trichloroethylene within a time

Insights into palladium-catalyzed cyanation of bromobenzene: additive effects on the rate-limiting step.

Kinetic studies using reaction calorimetry were conducted under synthetically relevant conditions to study the effect of additives in the cyanation of bromobenzene catalyzed by palladium complexes. This work demonstrates that the addition of a catalytic amount of ZnBr(2) facilitates the reaction with an elimination of the induction period observed without additive. This study afforded a qualitative assessment of the effect of water on the rate-limiting step and the apparent reaction order in bromobenzene.

Different effects of platinum, palladium, and rhodium salts on lymphocyte proliferation and cytokine release.

The effects of graded concentrations of Pt, Pd, and Rh salts on spontaneous and PHA-stimulated peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC) proliferation and IFN-gamma, TNF-alpha, and IL-5 release were the focus of this study. Spontaneous PBMC proliferation was inhibited by all 10(-4) M salts (with the exception of PtCl2), while it was enhanced by 10(-5) M PtCl2 as well as by 10(-5) and 10(-6) M (NH4)2[RhCl6] and RhCl3 (but not by 10(-7) M salts). Pt, Pd, and Rh compounds showed similar effects on PHA-stimulated PBMC proliferation and cytokine release; however, the effects on IFN-gamma release wer

In vitro lymphocyte proliferation as compared to patch test using gold, palladium and nickel.

BACKGROUND: A conventional lymphocyte transformation test (LTT) was compared to the commercially available MELISA (memory lymphocyte immunostimulation assay), a lymphoproliferative assay that has been suggested to be a valuable instrument for the diagnosis of metal allergy. Sensitivity and specificity of the two assays were calculated using a patch test as a reference method. METHODS: 34 patients were patch-tested for gold sodium thiosulfate, palladium chloride and nickel sulfate, and the lymphocyte proliferation to these metals was tested in vitro using mononuclear cells from peripheral bloo

Extractive separation and spectrophotometric determination of palladium and platinum with dithizone in the presence of stannous chloride.

The conditions [acid used, presence of chloride and tin(II)] for the extractive separation and spectrophotometric determination of palladium and platinum as the dithizonates Pd(HDz)(2) and Pt(HDz)(2) have been examined. In the absence of stannous chloride platinum does not undergo extraction. Conditions for the separation and determination of these metals in the presence of mercury, gold and copper, which are also extracted with dithizone into carbon tetrachloride or chloroform under the conditions suitable for palladium (1M sulphuric acid/0.1M hydrochloric acid), have been defined. Biologically integrated EGCG-modified palladium nanozyme for synergistic photothermal-catalytic therapy of esophageal cancer.

INTRODUCTION: Photothermal therapy (PTT) faces limitations due to tumor microenvironment (TME) heterogeneity and single-modality constraints, including hypoxia, redox imbalance, and uneven heat distribution, which compromise therapeutic durability. Integrating nanozyme catalysis with PTT presents a promising strategy to amplify oxidative stress, yet achieving a balance among catalytic efficiency, photothermal performance, biocompatibility, and stability remains challenging. METHODS: Herein, we developed an epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG)-modified palladium-based nanozyme (EGCG-PdZyme) for the
