BACKGROUND: Despite the growing frequency of revision total knee arthroplasty (rTKA), there is limited information regarding patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) after that procedure. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to determine (1) PROM improvements in pain, function, quality of life (QOL), and global health and (2) predictors of PROMs for patients undergoing aseptic rTKA as determined using a multilevel model with patients nested within surgeons.
METHODS: A prospective cohort of 246 patients who underwent aseptic rTKA from January 2016 to December 2017 and had baseline and 1-y

BACKGROUND: Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) affect adult mental health and tend to contribute to greater symptoms of depression and more frequent suicide attempts. Given the relationship between symptoms of depression and patient-reported outcomes (PROs), adversity in childhood might be associated with PROs in patients seeking care for musculoskeletal problems, but it is not clear whether in fact there is such an association among patients seeking care in an outpatient, upper extremity orthopaedic practice.
QUESTIONS/PURPOSES: (1) Are ACE scores independently associated with variation in

Esophageal cancer is currently the eighth most common cancer worldwide. Improvements in operative techniques and neoadjuvant therapies have led to improved outcomes. Resection of the esophagus carries a high risk of severe complications and has a negative impact on health-related quality of life (QOL). The aim of this study was to assess which patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) are used to measure QOL after esophagectomy for cancer. A comprehensive search of original articles was conducted investigating QOL after surgery for esophageal carcinoma. Two authors independently selected relev

OBJECTIVE: We sought to prospectively examine the responsiveness of a number of patient-reported outcome (PRO) measures in polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR), as well as their relationship to the biomarkers erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), C-reactive protein (CRP), and plasma fibrinogen.
METHODS: Sixty patients with PMR were divided into active (n = 25) or inactive (n = 35) disease groups based on symptoms; physician assessment; and the biomarkers ESR, CRP, and plasma fibrinogen. Groups underwent assessment at baseline and 6 weeks. Disease activity measures and relevant PRO measures were recor

OBJECTIVES: Because gastrointestinal (GI) illnesses can cause physical, emotional, and social distress, patient-reported outcomes (PROs) are used to guide clinical decision making, conduct research, and seek drug approval. It is important to develop a mechanism for identifying, categorizing, and evaluating the over 100 GI PROs that exist. Here we describe a new, National Institutes of Health (NIH)-supported, online PRO clearinghouse-the GI-PRO database.
METHODS: Using a protocol developed by the NIH Patient-Reported Outcome Measurement Information System (PROMIS(®)), we performed a systematic

Background: Patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) provide important insights into recovery after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR). Previous research suggests that males and females recover differently after ACLR, with females reporting greater pain, slower functional gains, and lower psychological readiness at later stages of rehabilitation. However, it is unknown if patient-reported outcomes differ by sex early after ACLR. To address this gap, we conducted a cross-sectional analysis comparing patient-reported outcome measures between sexes three months after ACLR. We hypot

BACKGROUND: Patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) are routinely used to assess pain, function, and quality of life in shoulder care. Although rotator cuff repair (RCR) is a highly effective treatment for symptomatic tears, the relationship between structural healing and PROM responsiveness remains unclear. This study aimed to evaluate and compare the responsiveness of 5 common shoulder PROMs-the Penn Shoulder Score, modified American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons score, Single Assessment Numeric Evaluation, Shoulder Activity Level (SAL), and Patient-Reported Outcome Measure Information Syste

OBJECTIVES: To examine the role of patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) in clinical decision-making across three inflammatory arthritides: RA, PsA and axial SpA (axSpA).
METHODS: We conducted a systematic review of four online medical literature databases (MEDLINE, Embase, CINAHL, Cochrane Central) from inception to February 2025. Abstracts and full texts were independently double-assessed. Articles examining the use and influence of PROMs on RA, PsA and axSpA clinical decision-making were included, with extracted data narratively synthesised (PROSPERO registration: CRD42024550525).

OBJECTIVES: Measuring patient health outcomes is important for effective healthcare. Community-based allied health care provides services for people with complex and often deteriorating conditions. The purpose of this study was to evaluate if a single outcome measure was applicable across a multidisciplinary team of eight allied health professions to measure the impact of the team. The chosen measure was the EuroQoL, 5-dimension, 5-level (EQ-5D-5L) which we compared to changes in discipline specific functional and quality of life measures.
METHODS: Any adult attending community-based services

BACKGROUND: Patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) are increasingly recognised as valuable tools for personalising care pathways and improving the quality of life for patients with lung cancer. PROMs capture patients' perceptions of symptoms and functional status, while patient-reported experience measures focus on how patients perceive the care process, communication, empathy and accessibility. However, integrating PROMs into clinical practice remains challenging. This study explores physicians' perceptions of PROMs in lung cancer care, their impact and the barriers and facilitators to the

BACKGROUND: Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) are increasingly being introduced in clinical registries. The Australasian Pelvic Floor Procedure Registry (APFPR) is a clinical quality registry which records information about procedures for stress urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse. This study aimed to determine the feasibility of capturing PROMs in women with pelvic floor disorders (PFDs) identified via the APFPR, using various modes and methods of administration.
METHODS: We administered the Australian Pelvic Floor Questionnaire (APFQ) in women with PFDs prior to surgery (

BACKGROUND: The variety of therapeutic associations in first-line treatment of advanced and metastatic renal cell cancer (mRCC) illustrates the complexity of toxicity management that can affect patients' health-related quality of life (HRQOL). Electronic monitoring applications have become part of the daily practice of providers in following up with people with cancer.
OBJECTIVES: This article offers perspectives for electronic patient-reported outcome measures (ePROMs) in clinical practice to enhance symptom management and HRQOL for patients with mRCC.

STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective cohort.
OBJECTIVE: To assess the relationship between long-term gabapentinoid use and outcomes after lumbar fusion.
SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA: Gabapentinoids, which include gabapentin and pregabalin, are commonly prescribed for radiculopathic pain. Basic science research has indicated that gabapentinoids may be detrimental to bone health/healing and clinical works has shown that initiating gabapentinoids at the time of spine surgery may decrease postoperative opioid requirements and increase risks of adverse outcomes. Despite these findings, no literature exists

BACKGROUND: Patient-reported outcome and experience measures (PROMs and PREMs) are increasingly acknowledged as vital instruments for assessing the quality of care for cardiovascular diseases (CVD). These measures include validated and non-validated questionnaires, interview guides, and workshops, which differ in terms of their structure, reliability, and application. Currently, there is no overview of which patient-reported outcomes and experiences are measured in CVD research and care, and there is limited consensus on how PROMs and PREMs are selected and applied.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: There has been interest in using patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) to capture and systematically assess patients' perceptions of their multiple sclerosis (MS) experience and feed this information back to the clinician, but PROMs are not routinely used in MS outpatient clinics. We explored the perspectives of providers caring for persons with MS (PwMS) on the integration of PROMs into clinical practice.
METHODS: This was a qualitative substudy of a separate randomized controlled trial (ClinicalTrials.gov: NCT0497954) examining the effect of PROM use on depres

BACKGROUND: Extended depth of focus intraocular lenses (EDOF-IOLs) provide unaided far- and mid-range vision. Refractive IOLs, in contrast to diffractive designs, are associated with a lower depth of focus and absence of dysphotopsia. The aim of this study was to assess spectacle independence for far-range, mid-range, and near-vision activities in patients after implantation of refractive or diffractive EDOF-IOLs using patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) in a real-world setting.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: In 2021 and 2022, all patients in a single center referred for bilateral cataract surge

BACKGROUND: Completion of patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) is labor-intensive but paramount in improving patient-centered care, allowing for advancement of techniques and scrutinization of outcomes. We report the feasibility of PROM collection and reporting for patients seen in a high-volume, multidisciplinary, tertiary limb salvage center to determine pain and functionality outcomes.
METHODS: The center received grant funding resources for large-scale PROM collection. Patients completed either tablet or paper surveys. Functionality and pain PROMs included 1) Neuro-QoL Lower Extremit
