To estimate the daily intake of food additives by young children aged 1-6 years in Japan, an intake survey was conducted in 2018 using the market basket method for food additives, including twelve types of colourants, three kinds of preservatives, three kinds of sweeteners and two kinds of food manufacturing agents. A list of the daily consumption of processed foods was prepared based on a special survey (MHLW 2011) and used for the estimation. As tattoos continue to rise in popularity, the demand for tattoo ink has surged. Historically, tattoo inks have been underregulated in the US market. This study analyzes inks from nine different brands that are common in the United States, ranging from major to small manufacturers. Out of 54 inks, 45 contained unlisted additives and/or pigments. Forty-eight infants with seborrhea capitis were treated with a preparation containing a polypeptide-fatty acid complex and tyrothricin in a propylene glycol vehicle, to determine if this material was non-toxic and if it was effective in the treatment of infantile seborrheic dermatitis. In this uncontrolled study, the preparation was effective in 45 of 48 infants so treated; a possible mild sensitivity reaction was observed in one infant.

23 patients who had used silver sulfadiazine cream were patch tested. No reactions to the active principle occurred but 2 vehicle components, cetyl alcohol and propylene glycol, were positive. No sulfonamide-sensitive subject reacted to silver sulfadiazine. There is no evidence that silver sulfadiazine has a contact sensitizing potential or that it is contra-indicated for patients with a history of sulfonamide hypersensitivity.

Results were provided for propylene oxide "cold sterilization" of dehydrated mashed potato granules that contained 7% moisture and 0.044% chloride. Here, the glycerol uptake facilitator (GlpF) and the members of the resistance-nodulation-cell division (RND) type efflux system were overexpressed in Klebsiella pneumoniae to promote 1,3-propanediol (1,3-PDO) production.
