Evaluation of the Effectiveness of Semolina in Improving the Bond Strength of Metal Alloys and Acrylic Resins for the Fabrication of Hybrid Prostheses for Implant Restoration: An In Vitro Study.

Introduction Fixed prosthodontic solutions for restorations of multiple implants are often done using acrylic-metal hybrid prosthesis. These restorations have a high failure rate due to poor bond strength between metal and acrylic, despite using digital attachments and primers. This study has been done to demonstrate an economical yet effective method of increasing shear bond strength between acrylic and metal. Materials and methods Disc specimens of 10 mm diameter and 2 mm thickness were designed using the Meshmixer version 3.5 software (Autodesk Inc., San Rafael, USA). The standard tessellat

Strain behavior of malaligned cervical spine implanted with metal-on-polyethylene, metal-on-metal, and elastomeric artificial disc prostheses - A finite element analysis.

BACKGROUND: Postoperative alterations in cervical spine curvature (i.e. loss of lordotic angle) are frequently observed following total disc replacement surgery. However, it remains unclear whether such changes in lordotic angle are due to preoperative spinal deformities and/or prostheses design limitations. The objective of the study is to investigate strain and segmental biomechanics of the malaligned cervical spine following total disc replacement. METHODS: Three disc prostheses were chosen, namely a metal-on-polyethylene, a metal-on-metal, and an elastomeric prosthesis, which feature diff

Chemical and biochemical composition of late periprosthetic fluids from women after explantation of ruptured Poly Implant Prothèse (PIP) breast prostheses.

In this study we have analysed the chemical composition of the silicone extracted from two explanted intact PIP breast prostheses and of breast late periprosthetic fluid (LPF) samples from n=4 patients with ruptured PIP implants. The results obtained by ATR-FT-IR spectroscopy, GC-MS, reverse phase HPLC-UV/DAD, SEC-UV/DAD and contrast phase microscopy demonstrated for the first time that the cloudy, viscous LPF found in the breast of women carriers of PIP implants is a multiphasic amphiphilic silicone/serum microemulsion that can migrate through the body (via lymphatic system) to accumulate fir

The effect of adherens junction components on keratinocyte adhesion in vitro: potential implications for sealing the skin-implant interface of intraosseous transcutaneous amputation prostheses.

Amputation places a significant burden on healthcare systems worldwide as patients suffer life-long complications associated with the stump-socket interface. Skin penetrating, osseointegrated implants like intraosseous transcutaneous amputation prostheses, could overcome this, however, they rely on the formation and maintenance of an infection-free seal at the skin-implant interface. Epithelial cell migration around transcutaneous implants creates downgrowth, which leads to infection and implant failure. Epithelial cells form cell-cell attachments via adherens junctions and desmosomes that pre

Theoretical prediction of the hemodynamic performance of slow resorbing polyester protein impregnated arterial prostheses after implantation: a plea for fast resorption of the coating.

The clinical literature cites cases where slow, incomplete, or nonuniform protein resorption from protein impregnated arterial prostheses produces undesirable localized internal capsule proliferation leading to a significant reduction of the internal diameter of the prosthesis. In an attempt to describe the hemodynamic response to this phenomenon, the blood flow in such stenotic regions was simulated and characterized numerically using FIDAP computational fluid dynamics software to determine the Navier-Stokes and continuity equations for simple channel flow. To simulate various stages of inter

Clinical Performance and Survival Outcomes of All-on-4 Full-Arch Implant-Supported Prostheses in Patients With a Completely Edentulous Arch: A Retrospective Cohort Study.

INTRODUCTION: All-on-4 full-arch implant-supported prostheses have become a predictable treatment option for rehabilitating completely edentulous patients by providing improved function, esthetics, and patient satisfaction while minimizing the need for extensive bone grafting. However, long-term evidence regarding implant survival, prosthetic success, and biological and mechanical complications is essential for validating their clinical effectiveness. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical performance, survival outcomes, biological and mechanical complications, and marginal bone loss associ

Impact of implant-supported fixed prostheses on quality of life in patients with severe jaw atrophy reconstructed with anterior iliac crest grafts: a retrospective study.

BACKGROUND: Fixed prostheses in edentulous patients offer enhanced stability, functionality, and aesthetics compared to removable options, significantly improving chewing efficiency and comfort. However, severe alveolar ridge atrophy poses significant challenges for implant-based rehabilitation, necessitating advanced bone augmentation techniques to ensure optimal functional and aesthetic outcomes. Anterior iliac crest bone grafting is widely used for restoring bone volume in such cases. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of implant-supported fixed prostheses (ISFPs) on oral health-relate
