Ethical challenges of using remote monitoring technologies for clinical research: A case study of the role of local research ethics committees in the RADAR-AD study.

INTRODUCTION: Clinical research with remote monitoring technologies (RMTs) has multiple advantages over standard paper-pencil tests, but also raises several ethical concerns. While several studies have addressed the issue of governance of big data in clinical research from the legal or ethical perspectives, the viewpoint of local research ethics committee (REC) members is underrepresented in the current literature. The aim of this study is therefore to find which specific ethical challenges are raised by RECs in the context of a large European study on remote monitoring in all syndromic stages

Continuous-Wave Radar and Motion-Derived Biomarkers for Non-Contact Vital Status Classification in End-of-Life Care: A Clinically Validated Machine Learning Approach.

In palliative care, effective communication about anticipated death is critical for aligning therapeutic goals, managing family expectations, and ensuring dignified care. However, prognostic uncertainty - particularly regarding the time of death - remains a challenge due to the limited reliability of current methods. This study explores the potential of radar-derived motion biomarkers as a novel approach to distinguish between living and deceased patients, addressing the need for objective decision-support tools in palliative care. Using continuous-wave radar, we recorded the torso displacemen

Observing Types and Successes of Alcohol Cessation Attempts Among Young Sexual and Gender Minority People Assigned Male at Birth in The RADAR Cohort Study.

Sexual and gender minority (SGM) people assigned male at birth (AMAB) report high alcohol use, binge drinking, and alcohol problems. However, little is known about how SGM people AMAB may reduce or cease alcohol use, and the resources they draw upon to do so. The overarching aim of this report is to describe the types, frequencies, and relative success of attempts to quit/cut down on alcohol among a large sample of SGM people AMAB enrolled in a longitudinal cohort study. Participants 17-29 years old (N=939) were drawn from a longitudinal cohort of SGM people AMAB (RADAR), between 2015 and 2022

Hypersensitivity cases associated with drug-eluting coronary stents: a review of available cases from the Research on Adverse Drug Events and Reports (RADAR) project.

OBJECTIVES: We undertook the review of all available cases of hypersensitivity reactions after placement of a drug-eluting stent (DES) and classified potential causes. BACKGROUND: Six months after the approval of the first DES, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reported 50 hypersensitivity reactions after stent placement but later concluded these were due to concomitantly prescribed medications such as clopidogrel. Nevertheless, the FDA continued to receive reports of hypersensitivity. METHODS: Reports available from April 2003 through December 2004 for hypersensitivity-like reactions a

Intimate Partner Violence Predicts Alcohol and Substance Use Among Young Sexual and Gender Minorities Assigned Male at Birth: A Longitudinal Analysis of the RADAR Cohort.

BACKGROUND: Intimate partner violence (IPV) is a serious public health issue in sexual and gender minority people assigned male at birth (SGM-AMAB), with rates at or above those of cisgender women. However, there is little research on how IPV exposure may impact alcohol and drug use (DU) in this population, impeding holistic intervention development. This study investigated whether experiences of IPV lead to higher rates of substance use over time among SGM-AMAB. METHODS: Data from the RADAR cohort study of Chicago-based SGM-AMAB (n=1,239) were used. Cross-lagged generalized estimating equati

Comparative analyses of physicochemical and volatile flavor characteristics in hooked, trawl-net, and radar-net hairtail (Trichiurus haumela) muscles during long-term cryopreservation at -18°C.

Chemical analysis showed that pH, b* values, myosin turbidity, carbonyl content, and surface hydrophobicity elevated in hooked, trawl-net, and radar-net hairtail (Trichiurus haumela, HH, TH, and RH) muscles with the prolonged cryopreservation time (-18℃, 120 d). In contrast, L*, a* values, textural properties, and myosin solubility existed decreasing trends. Microstructural results showed that freezing resulted in disordered myofibrils, decreased collagen fibers, widened myofibrillar space, and increased fragmentation in hairtail muscles. Furthermore, volatile flavor analysis suggested that al

Joint use of ground-penetrating radar and hydraulic-partitioning tracer tomography to improve characterization and long-term prediction of DNAPL source zones in multi-facies aquifers.

Facies-controlled heterogeneity, including fine-grained lenses and abrupt textural transitions, produces irregular and non-Gaussian DNAPL source zone architecture (SZA) that strongly influences mass-transfer and long-term dissolution. Reconstructing both permeability and DNAPL saturation therefore requires estimating high-dimensional, coupled parameter fields that are poorly constrained by sparse hydraulic and tracer observations. Geophysical methods such as electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) and ground-penetrating radar (GPR) can supplement these data, yet ERT often lacks resolution in s
