Geological evidence indicates that grounded ice sheets reached sea level at all latitudes during two long-lived Cryogenian (58 and ≥5 My) glaciations. Combined uranium-lead and rhenium-osmium dating suggests that the older (Sturtian) glacial onset and both terminations were globally synchronous. Between January 2006 and December 2009, 37 radioisotope synovectomy (RS) in 18 severe haemophilic patients (factor 8<1%) have been performed at our centre. The distribution of joint injected was as follows: rhenium-186 [Re186], 19 joints (ankles, 8 and elbows, 11) and yttrium-90 [Y90] 18 joints (knees, 18). Five thiosemicarbazones (H2Ln) derived from 4,6-diacetylresorcinol (n = 1-4) and salicylaldehyde (n = 5) have been synthesized and spectroscopically characterized. Single crystal X-ray diffraction studies on some of them show that the molecular structure is dominated by intramolecular hydrogen bonds involving the O(1)-H group of the resorcinol/salicylaldehyde group and the azomethinic nitrogen atom and sulfur atom of the thiosemicarbazone arm. We evaluated acute hematological and long-term pulmonary toxicity of radioimmunotherapy in murine models of Cryptococcus neoformans infection. Activities up to 250 microCi were well tolerated by healthy A/JCr mice for (213)Bi-18B7 and (188)Re-18B7 monoclonal antibodies. In infected mice, doses up to 150 microCi produced only transient toxicity. The lungs of treated mice had no evidence of radiation fibrosis.

Recent advances in targeted radiotherapy offer a new approach for the management of metastatic bone pain. This paper will review the scientific basis for radionuclide therapy and will examine the evidence for clinical efficacy. The therapeutic potential of targeted radiotherapy can only be appreciated by comparison with established treatments. Alternative treatment options will, therefore, be discussed, to bring the potential advantages and hazards of targeted radiotherapy into perspective and to define its place in routine management.

OBJECTIVE: Long-term follow-up data were analyzed to assess the value of intracavitary irradiation with stereotactically applied beta-emitting radioisotopes for the treatment of craniopharyngioma cysts.
