BACKGROUND: With the development of internal fixation materials, simple operation with internal fixation has become a tendency. Ni-Ti shape memory alloy embracing fixator has such advantages as slight injury, easy operation, security, reliable fixation, and better histocompatibility. The thoracic bellows mechanism consists of the rib cage and the diaphragm. The purpose of this study was to determine if nontraumatically acquired lesions of the bellows were secondary to underlying disease. Results of treatment of tracheoesophageal fistula (TEF) have improved over the years. However, long gap atresias continue to be a problem and require modification in the conventional operation. Preoperative diagnosis of a long gap atresia in a case of TEF is difficult, and often the defect is noted only at thoracotomy, thus necessitating multiple intraoperative changes in the position of the neonate. A 43 year old woman presented with two large bilateral tumours of the first ribs that compressed the right subclavian vessels, trachea and oesophagus and led to right arm oedema, severe dyspnoea and dysphagia. The resected tumours showed typical histological features of fibrous dysplasia without malignant transformation. The right tumour weighed 1.5 kg and measured 17 x 13 x 10 cm. This report demonstrates that major surgery is still possible for resection of such exceptional giant compressive lesions, since fibrous dysplasia is a benign and non-infiltrative tumour.

It's reported that 10% of the inpatients by traumas have fractured ribs. It's easy to judge if it's the case of flail chest, or respiratory failure due to airway injury or pulmonary contusion. There is no guideline for treatments of a patient who has multiple ribs fractures without respiratory failure. We did the surgical stabilization of rib fractures for 10 cases from 2020 to October 2023. As a result, we find out useful surgical indication for treatment of rib fractures.

INTRODUCTION: The precise localization of fractured ribs represents one of the primary challenges of surgical rib fixation. Computed tomography (CT) provides the facture's general location, but it is difficult to use the imaging alone to properly place a surgical incision. We used electromagnetic navigation to identify the exact location of the fracture on the patient's skin.
