Genital human papillomavirus infections in the male sexual partners of 45 female patients with papillomavirus infection.

Forty-five women with a confirmed genital human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and their regular male sexual partners were examined. The diagnosis of the women was based on the colposcopic examination with cytological and histological samples. The men were studied by using a similar microscopic technique. Penisscopic and histological examinations showed that 22 out of the 45 men had genital HPV infection although only 7 men showed visible condylomatous warts. In addition, nine men had clinical lesions highly suggestive to HPV infection in penisscopy but they had unspecific histological samples

Systematic Mapping of Relationship-Level Protective Factors and Sexual Health Outcomes Among Sexual Minority Youth: The Role of Peers, Parents, Partners, and Providers.

Sexual minority youth (SMY) experience elevated rates of adverse sexual health outcomes. Although risk factors driving these outcomes are well studied, less attention has been paid to protective factors that potentially promote health and/or reduce negative effects of risk. Many factors within interpersonal relationships have been identified as protective for the sexual health of adolescents generally. We sought to systematically map the current evidence base of relationship-level protective factors specifically for the sexual health of SMY through a systematic mapping of peer-reviewed observa

Main Partner Relationships and the HIV Care Cascade: Examining the Predictive Utility of Sexual Agreements, Partner Concordance, and Drug Use Among Sexual Minority Men Living With HIV in the USA.

BACKGROUND: The past 15 years have seen increasing attention to relationship factors among sexual minority male (SMM) couples at high risk for HIV infection. Research has largely focused on HIV prevention outcomes. Outcomes relevant to SMM living with HIV have received relatively less attention. PURPOSE: This study evaluated associations between relational covariates (relationship status, sexual agreements, and seroconcordance) and HIV care cascade outcomes (having a current antiretroviral therapy [ART] prescription, ART adherence, viral load (VL) testing, and VL detectability) above and beyo

Sexual Distress, Concerns About Sex Life, and Successful Sexual Aging: An Exploration in Older Partnered German Adults.

Although research on older adults' sexual functioning and sexual health has increased in recent decades, there is a lack of systematic assessments of the role of sexual distress in positive sexual aging. This study examined associations between sexual distress, concerns about sex life, and positive sexual aging, and whether these associations differ by gender. Data were drawn from a 2024 online survey of partnered, sexually active German adults aged 65 years and older (n = 598). Positive sexual aging was assessed using the Successful Sexual Aging Scale (SSAS). Structural equation modeling cont

Intimacy and sexual well-being in couples coping with sexual interest/arousal disorder: the importance of perceived partner responsiveness.

BACKGROUND: Sexual Interest/Arousal Disorder (SIAD) is one of the most common sexual issues reported by women and a leading reason for seeking sex and couple therapy-yet is rarely studied from a dyadic perspective. Intimacy is one interpersonal factor that could promote greater sexual well-being in individuals with SIAD and their partners. AIM: Using a dyadic cross-sectional design, this study examined the associations between the three components of intimacy (self-disclosure, perceived partner disclosure, and perceived partner responsiveness) and sexual satisfaction, sexual distress and sexu

Spectrum of sexual partner types among adults screened for sexually transmitted infections in the Eastern Cape, South Africa.

In South Africa, Chlamydia trachomatis prevalence is 14.7% in women and 6.6% in men, while Neisseria gonorrhoeae rates are 6.0% and 3.4%. Partner management, including identifying and screening for STIs, is essential for STI control efforts but challenging due to relationship dynamics, fear of disclosure and stigma. This study aims to understand how adults in the Eastern Cape report partner types when seeking STI care, enhancing partner notification strategies and reducing transmission. From February-August 2023, a cross-sectional evaluation of a Neisseria gonorrhoeae lateral flow assay was co

Sexual partner concurrency and sexual risk among gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender American Indian/Alaska natives.

BACKGROUND: American Indian and Alaska Natives suffer pervasive health disparities, including disproportionately high rates of HIV. Sexual network dynamics, including concurrency and sexual mixing patterns, are key determinants of HIV disparities. METHODS: We analyzed data from the first national study of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender American Indian and Alaska Natives to examine the prevalence of concurrency, sex and race of partners, and level of risk across different partnership patterns. Egocentric network data were analyzed at the level of the respondents, who were grouped acco

Higher variability in the number of sexual partners in males can contribute to a higher prevalence of sexually transmitted diseases in females.

By examining published, empirical data we show that men and women consistently differ in the shape of the distribution of the number of sexual partners. The female distribution is always relatively narrow-variance is low-with a big majority of women having a number of partners close to the average. The male distribution is much wider-variance is high-with many men having few sex partners and many others having more partners than most females. Using stochastic modelling we demonstrate that this difference in variance is, in principle, sufficient to cause a difference in the gender prevalence of

Association of sexual perceptions, behavior, and intimate partner violence with sexually transmitted infection (STI) among Filipino women.

BACKGROUND: Sexually transmitted infections (STI) remain prevalent in the Philippines despite being both preventable and treatable. Women are particularly vulnerable when less prioritized than high-risk groups and unable to speak up in abusive intimate relationships. Although studies on behavior and STI have been conducted, they vary by culture and region, highlighting the importance of representative studies. This study aimed to identify sexual perceptions and practices, and intimate partner dynamics associated with STI in Filipino women. METHODS: A secondary analysis of the 2022 Philippine

Riskier sexual partners contribute to the increased rate of sexually transmitted diseases among youth with substance use disorders.

BACKGROUND: Youth with alcohol or marijuana dependence or disorders (substance use disorders [SUDs]) are at increased risk of acquiring sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). Sexual partner characteristics may explain the relationship between SUD and STD. METHODS: Clinical criteria for SUD, clinical STD diagnosis, and sexual partner characteristics were assessed among 15- to 24-year-old STD clinic attendees between 1999 and 2002 (n = 412). We used exact logistic regression and path analysis to examine the mediation effect of sexual partner characteristics (age discordance, incarceration, STD d

Toys in the bedroom: use of sexual devices in partnered sexual activity is associated with higher female orgasmic intensity, arousal, and sexual satisfaction and is not related to psychopathologies.

BACKGROUND: Sex devices are tools that can improve the sexual health of users, but their effects on sexual outcomes in partnered intercourse have rarely been evaluated. AIM: The aim of this study was to assess the relationship between partnered and solitary use of sex devices and different sexual health outcomes among sexually active women aged 18-35 in a heterosexual relationship. METHODS: The cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted with 361 participants between May and June 2023 recruited through a social media campaign. The risk of Telling: A Dyadic Perspective on Romantic Partners' Responses to Child Sexual Abuse Disclosure and Their Associations with Sexual and Relationship Satisfaction.

Among 70 community couples who reported childhood sexual abuse (CSA) and disclosure to their partner, this study examined associations between survivors' perception of partner responses to their disclosure, and both partners' sexual and relationship satisfaction. Participants completed self-report questionnaires online. Results of path analyses within an actor-partner interdependence model indicated that survivors' perceived partner responses of emotional support to disclosure were associated with their own and their partners' higher sexual satisfaction. Survivors' perceived responses of being

Female Partners of Men With Peyronie's Disease Have Impaired Sexual Function, Satisfaction, and Mood, While Degree of Sexual Interference Is Associated With Worse Outcomes.

INTRODUCTION: Peyronie's disease (PD) causes penile deformity and can result in sexual dysfunction and psychological distress. Currently, nothing is known about the psychosexual impact on the partners of men with PD. Research carried out on the partners of men with other chronic illnesses suggests that the partners of men with PD might have increased rates of sexual dysfunction and decreased sexual satisfaction. AIMS: To examine (i) sexual functioning, sexual satisfaction, negative affect, and relationship satisfaction of men with PD and their female partners and (ii) the effect of male-perce

Dyspareunia and depressive symptoms are associated with impaired sexual functioning in women with endometriosis, whereas sexual functioning in their male partners is not affected.

STUDY QUESTION: To what extent are endometriosis and its related physical and mental symptoms associated with the perceived level of sexual functioning in women and their male partners? SUMMARY ANSWER: Dyspareunia and depressive symptoms are associated with impaired sexual functioning in women with endometriosis, whereas sexual functioning in their male partners is not affected. WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY: Women with endometriosis suffer from more dyspareunia, lower sexual functioning, and lower quality of life. In qualitative studies, partners of women with endometriosis report that endometriosi

An Experimental Investigation of Sexual Scripts by Partner Gender: Anticipated Clitoral Stimulation and Partner Orgasm Pursuit Shape Women's Orgasm Expectations.

Research has found that bisexual women expect clitoral stimulation and orgasm more when hypothetically partnered with another woman versus a man, which is consistent with the widely documented heterosexual orgasm gap. The current research aims to (1) investigate "perceived partner orgasm pursuit" (i.e., the participant's perception that her partner is pursuing her orgasm) as a novel mechanism to explain this difference in orgasm expectations, and (2) demonstrate that manipulating the interpersonal sexual script with a male partner to include sufficient clitoral stimulation can increase orgasm

Sexual-affective experiences of women and partners postpartum and related biopsychosocial factors and adaptation strategies. Qualitative study.

AIM: To understand women's and partners' sexual-affective experiences postpartum and related biopsychosocial factors and adaptation strategies. METHODS: This qualitative study, using a phenomenological approach, was based on 23 semi-structured interviews with mothers and two focus groups with 14 partners, between 12 weeks and one year postpartum. Intentional and theoretical sampling was used, including participants with diverse sexual orientation. Interpretative thematic analysis was performed, using Taylor and Bogdan's inductive logic within a phenomenological framework. RESULTS: Three them

Predictors of Individual and Interpersonal Adjustment Among Non-offending Partners of Individuals With Histories of Sexual Offenses.

Recent research indicates that the consequences of sexual offenses extend beyond target victims, including to non-offending partners of individuals with sexual offense histories. However, little research has focused on non-offending partners' wellbeing and relationships with persons with sexual offense histories leading up to and following acts of sexual aggression. Non-offending partners may be secondary victims of their partners' offenses in managing psychological difficulties (e.g., guilt, shame), social stigma and isolation, fear for their safety, or difficulties in their romantic relation

Multiple Sexual Partners as Major Predictor of Human Immunodeficiency Virus Seropositivity Among Pregnant Women, Osun State, Nigeria.

Concerning human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) epidemiology, pregnant women (PW) are particularly vulnerable and severely affected. Nigeria has over 40 years of HIV epidemiology and enlightenments; to suggest control hub, we sought to know extant variables predicting HIV positivity among PW in selected towns in Osun State. Our hypothesis: none of the study PW's variables predicts HIV seropositivity. With ethics approval from UNIOSUN Health Research Ethics Committee, 900 consecutively selected consenting PW attending antenatal care (ANC) facilities in four towns (capital city inclusive) provided
