Clinical efficacy of different shoulder joint drug injections for rotator cuff injuries: A network meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Rotator cuff injury is a common clinical disorder of the musculoskeletal system. It is one of the most common causes of shoulder pain and shoulder joint dysfunction. Intra-articular injection therapy is one of the common conservative treatments for rotator cuff injury in clinical practice, but scholars have been controversial about the different drugs used for injection therapy and their clinical effectiveness, and there is no complete agreement on the choice of different injectables, and the existing original studies are mostly direct comparisons in 1 arm, lacking indirect compari

A Meta-Analysis of CT as a Tool for Diagnosing and Treating Shoulder Joint Bankart Injuries.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

OBJECTIVE: The shoulder joint is the most flexible joint in the human body. It is a typical multiaxial ball-and-socket joint. The humeral head is approximately spherical, and the glenoid is small and shallow. This article mainly discusses the application value of computerized tomography (CT) in the early diagnosis of skeletal Bankart injury of the shoulder joint. METHODS: The chemical quality was evaluated according to the physical therapy evidence database PEDro scale. The literature quality evaluation scale and the NO scale are also used to evaluate the quality of each nonrandomized study.

Progressive resistance strength training and the related injuries in older adults: the susceptibility of the shoulder.

The benefits of progressive resistance training (PRT) among the older adults are evident, especially in the prevention of sarcopenia and improving muscle strength, which reverse the age-related loss of functional ability. However, PRT carries some risk, particularly when participants are older adults with a certain degree of muscle weakness. The purpose of this article is to discuss the PRT-related injuries, and present an overview of documented shoulder injuries among the elderly, discerning possible mechanisms of injury and risk factors. A literature search was conducted in the PUBMED databa

[Evaluation of a simple test for shoulder function in patients with surgically treated rotator cuff injuries].

INTRODUCTION: To assess overall shoulder function a simple examination of the range of motion and strength may not be sufficiently representative. because the shoulder in its daily use is often required for repetitive activities, fatigue at an early stage could be a sign of disturbed shoulder function. Therefore the shoulder function test (SFT) was created to incorporate the factor time into shoulder assessment. With this study the SFT was evaluated for its clinical use in the prospective follow-up of a series of patients operated on for rotator cuff tears. METHODS: Using forward flexion, the

Peripheral nerve entrapment, occupation-related syndromes, sports injuries, bursitis, and soft-tissue problems of the shoulder.

In this review, three areas are highlighted: knee injuries due to athletic events, carpal tunnel syndrome, and shoulder problems, especially glenoid labral tears. In patients with chronic anterior cruciate ligament insufficiency, an increasing incidence of meniscal tears was seen. A Finnish study showed that athletes from all types of competitive sports are at a slightly increased risk of requiring hospital care because of osteoarthritis of the hip, knee, or ankle. A number of studies on the electrodiagnosis of carpal tunnel syndrome were published, and some of these are reviewed. The shoulder

[Fractures of the scapula and injuries of the acromioclavicular joint. The traumatized shoulder and its sequelae].

Fractures of the scapula are rare and mainly result from a severe direct trauma. Most fractures may be treated non-operatively, only severely displaced and unstable fractures of the neck and/or the clavicula, unstable intraarticular fractures of the glenoid or open fractures (especially in combination with neurovascular lesions) should be fixed operatively. A dislocated fracture of the clavicula or glenoid should be approached first ventrally. Displaced fractures of the neck and body may also require an open reduction and fixation through a dorsal approach. Careful preoperative planning and an

The 'teres major first' approach for deltoid reinnervation in brachial plexus injuries with shoulder fracture-dislocations.

BACKGROUND: In upper brachial plexus (C5-C6) avulsion injuries, deltoid reinnervation via radial-to-axillary nerve transfer is standard. However, fracture-dislocations around the shoulder complicate surgical exposure due to fibrosis and distorted anatomy. METHODS: Fifteen male patients (mean age: 26.1 years) with C5-C6 avulsion injuries and concomitant shoulder fractures were treated between October 2019 and April 2022 using a modified posterior approach. The "teres major first" technique utilized the inferior border of the teres major muscle as a consistent landmark to identify and mobilize

[Comparison of the pattern injuries of the shoulder joint after dislocation in patients different age groups.].

The aim of the study is to compare the frequency of the rotator cuff tears in patients younger and older than 60 years during shoulder dislocation. The study included the results of observation of 101 patients after shoulder dislocation without signs of damage of the rotator cuff before the trauma. All the patients were divided into 2 groups: older and younger than 60. All the patients after the injury underwent radiography and MRI. Pattern of injury of the shoulder joint was assessed via MRI. In patients younger than 60 years, the risk of a fracture of anterior margin of glenoid during the ac

Shoulder range of motion, pitch count, and injuries among interscholastic female softball pitchers: a descriptive study.

BACKGROUND/PURPOSE: Injury rates for softball players are similar to baseball players yet information regarding risk factors, pitching, and physical characteristics for high school windmill softball pitchers is limited. This information is needed to guide prevention, training, and rehabilitation efforts. The purpose of this study was to report descriptive data regarding the physical characteristics and pitching volume experienced by high school softball pitchers during one academic season. A secondary aim was to track and describe upper extremity injuries suffered by high school softball pitch

[Simultaneous bilateral ventral and dorsal shoulder dislocation following an epileptic convulsion--a rare combination of injuries].

We report about a 29 year old male patient who had a simultaneous bilateral ventral and dorsal shoulder dislocation. The dislocation happened during a first incident of an epileptic convulsion, previously not diagnosed. On the right shoulder following a closed reduction manoeuvre a dislocation fracture was seen. It needed operative open reduction and fixation with angular stable plate osteosynthesis. The locked dorsal shoulder dislocation on the left was operated dorsally secondary via a dorsal approach. In a first step the reduction was carried out and in the same intervention the humeral hea

Injury to the axillary artery and brachial plexus caused by a closed floating shoulder injury: A case report.

BACKGROUND: A floating shoulder may be associated with catastrophic neurovascular injury and requires a multidisciplinary approach for its management. To maximize the likelihood of good patient outcomes, this unique injury pattern should be recognized in patients as early as possible. This can be difficult to achieve, however, as there are currently few reports of floating shoulder in the literature, meaning that associated neurovascular injuries may be overlooked. CASE SUMMARY: We present here a rare case of floating shoulder with axillary artery injury in a 34-year-old woman. The patient co

Association Between Eccentric and Isometric Shoulder Rotation Strength, Shoulder Range of Motion and Injury Incidence in the Shoulder in Adolescent Competitive Tennis Players: The SMASH Cohort Study.

BACKGROUND: For competitive adolescent athletes, injury avoidance is a challenge, and causes of injury are complex and multifactorial. Despite an incidence of 8.2 shoulder injuries per 1,000 hours of tennis played, few studies have investigated the association between shoulder strength, range of motion (ROM), and injury. HYPOTHESIS: Eccentric and isometric shoulder muscle strength and/or shoulder ROM are associated with new shoulder complaints and/or injuries. STUDY DESIGN: Cohort study. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: Level 3. METHODS: At baseline 301 adolescent competitive tennis players aged 13 to 1

The impact of pre-existing shoulder diseases and traumatic injuries of the shoulder on adhesive capsulitis in adult population: A population-based nested case-control study.

Adhesive capsulitis (AC) is a common chronic disorder for adult patients; however, whether a history of pre-existing shoulder diseases may affect the development of AC is still not fully understood. We aimed to investigate the incidence and prevalence of AC and to assess the association of pre-existing shoulder diseases and traumatic injuries of the shoulder with the development of AC in adults. This retrospective population-based cohort and nested case-control study used data from the National Health Institute Research Database of Taiwan. A total of 24,414 patients aged 20 years or older and w
