Athletic performance levels across biological maturity status in youth soccer players.

INTRODUCTION: Biological maturation can produce substantial inter-individual variability in physical performance among youth soccer players. However, whether its influence differs in magnitude across physical domains has been little examined within a testing battery. METHODS: Forty-four youth male soccer players (13.12 ± 1.75 years; U13-U16) were assessed for countermovement jump (CMJ) height, lower limb peak power, sprint speed over 10 and 30 m (reflecting acceleration and maximal velocity, respectively), and VO2max. Predicted maturity status was classified into pre-, circa-, and post-PHV (p

Multimodal Functional Assessment of Asymmetries in Youth Soccer Players: Study Protocol.

BACKGROUND: Youth soccer players are exposed to repeated unilateral loading during a period of rapid growth and neuromuscular maturation. These demands may contribute to postural deviations and inter-limb functional asymmetries that can influence movement control and mechanical efficiency. This study protocol aims to establish a standardized multimodal framework for assessing postural alignment, postural control, lower limb mechanical output, ankle dorsiflexion strength, support-limb neuromuscular activation, and contextual training and recovery variables in licensed youth soccer players aged

Substitutions in Professional Elite Soccer Increase Distance and High-Intensity Actions.

Carpels, T, Kelly, S, and Kemi, OJ. Substitutions in professional elite soccer increase distance and high-intensity actions. J Strength Cond Res 40(10): e1073-e1080, 2026-Physical performance in intense domains including distance covered and high-intensity actions are central for success in soccer. During a match, players need to appropriately distribute their capacity for intense match-play to last the full match. Substitutions may mitigate performance losses. Here, we investigated physical performance by global positioning system-tracked total distance, repeated high-intensity efforts and pe

Active reperfusion for enhancing high-intensity intermittent performance in soccer players.

This study aimed to determine whether active ischemic preconditioning, incorporating exercise during the reperfusion phases, would enhance Yo-Yo Intermittent Recovery Test Level 2 performance in soccer players. Seventeen male amateur soccer players (24.0±1.8 y) completed three different preconditioning sessions before the Yo-Yo Intermittent Recovery Test Level 2. The ischemic preconditioning protocol consisted of three cycles of 4-minute occlusion (220 mm Hg), followed by 4-minute reperfusion (0 mm Hg) in both thighs (at rest). Active protocols were similar to ischemic preconditioning; however

Exploring How Soccer Players With Perfectionism Navigate Challenges in Talent Pathways.

The study provides a qualitative exploration of how soccer players reporting perfectionism navigate challenges in talent pathways. Eighteen players (10 females, eight males, Mage = 16.17 years, SD = 3.47) from talent pathways with higher levels of perfectionism and perfectionistic cognitions (1SD above the mean of samples from previous studies) participated in semistructured one-to-one interviews. Using semantic thematic analysis, seven themes were identified: cycles of anxiety, sadness at being a substitute, self-criticism and hopelessness during slumps, ruminating on mistakes, worthless when

Air pollution exposure, health and performance in elite female soccer players.

INTRODUCTION: Acute exposure to air pollution negatively affects athletes' ability to perform at their best, with a more pronounced impact observed in females. Despite this, the representation of female-only cohorts is lacking. This study investigates how exposure to air pollution impacts performance and well-being of an elite female soccer team. METHODS: Comprehensive data on external, internal, and subjective load variables were combined with the concentrations of three major air pollutants (Particulate Matter >10 µm and Oxidant (Ox = Ozone + Nitrogen Dioxide) during soccer training and mat

Asymmetry, lumbo-pelvic hip complex and injury in european soccer players.

Human movement, in its synergistic, functional, and stabilizing nature, necessitates a balance of muscle length and strength between the muscles surrounding a joint. This balance, known as muscle balance, ensures optimal joint function during movement. Using a bibliography that can be linked to indexed literature, this article has as its strength the correlative analysis between gestural repetitiveness in soccer, related to players' roles on the field on the playing field that result in dysfunctional postural frameworks with increased risk factors for lower extremity injuries. Preliminary Baseline Vestibular Ocular Motor Screening Scores in Pediatric Soccer Athletes.

CONTEXT: The utility of baseline vestibular and ocular motor screening (VOMS) in high school and collegiate athletes is demonstrated throughout the literature; however, baseline VOMS data at the youth level are limited. In addition, with the recent adoption of the change scoring method, there is a need to document baseline VOMS total and change scores in a pediatric population. OBJECTIVE: To document baseline VOMS total and change scores and to document the internal consistency of the VOMS in pediatric soccer athletes. We hypothesized that the VOMS would demonstrate strong internal consistenc

NON-HEADER IMPACT EXPOSURE AND KINEMATICS OF MALE YOUTH SOCCER PLAYERS.

Previous studies have investigated the head impact kinematics of purposeful heading in youth soccer; however, less than a third of all head injuries in youth soccer have been found to involve ball contact. The aim of the current study was to identity the head impact kinematics and exposure not associated with purposeful heading of the ball in male youth soccer. Headband-mounted sensors were used to monitor the head kinematics of male junior varsity and middle school teams during games. Video analysis of sensor-recorded events was used to code impact mechanism, surface and site. Junior varsity

Continued Play Following Sport-Related Concussion in United States Youth Soccer.

Medical guidelines and legislation in the US call for immediate removal from play and prohibit continued play on the same day if a concussion is suspected. However, there is limited literature examining whether these guidelines and laws are being followed in youth soccer. The purpose of this study was to identify the frequency at which youth soccer players continued play on the same day following sport-related concussion and factors that may be associated with this behavior. A retrospective review of youth soccer players diagnosed at the initial clinic visit with a sport-related concussion was
