De Quervain disease (1895), tenosynovitis of Abductor Pollicis Longus and Extensor Pollicis Brevis, passing through their tunnel above the Radial Styloid Process, is not always cured by medical treatment but often requires surgical treatment. So, it is necessary to use a surgical one. The classical procedure, simple section of the radio-styloid pulley, is often complicated by the shifting of the two tendons on the radial styloid process caused by the wrist movements. Recently, an Italian author, G. Codega proposed an enlarging-reconstructing technique. The one described in this article consist

The first outbreak of tenosynovitis caused by infection with REO virus in the Netherlands, involving 15 broiler flocks, is described. The disease could be reproduced easily by subcutaneous, oral and contact infection of susceptible broilers with the isolated virus. The 15 affected flocks all came from one broiler parent flock and were fed with feed from one mill (A). Twenty other flocks, also coming from this parent flock and reared in the same period on feed from another feed mill (B) did not suffer from tenosynovitis. The parent flock showed no disease symptoms but seroconversion to REO viru

INTRODUCTION: Most patients with de Quervain tenosynovitis are well managed with nonsurgical treatments, however, wrist pain persists or recurs in some patients, affecting activities of daily living. This study aimed to identify patient-specific factors associated with persistent or recurrent symptoms after conservative treatment of de Quervain tenosynovitis.
METHODS AND MATERIALS: We retrospectively collected data from patients with de Quervain tenosynovitis who had been conservatively treated. The failure group comprised 28 patients who had received surgical intervention and had persistent

BACKGROUND: De Quervain's tenosynovitis (DQT) is an inflammatory condition affecting the abductor pollicis longus and extensor pollicis brevis tendon sheaths at the radial styloid. It can impair hand function, reduce quality of life, and hinder occupational performance. Although multiple treatments exist, there is limited consensus on the most effective therapeutic strategy.
PRIMARY STUDY OBJECTIVE: To compare the effects of ultrasound therapy versus low-level laser therapy in DQT patients.
METHODS/DESIGN: A single-blinded randomized clinical trial was conducted.
SETTING: The study was cond

Mycoplasma arginini is a bacterium primarily found in animals and is seldom reported in human infections. We identified M. arginini infection in a severely immunocompromised kidney transplant recipient in Slovenia. Clinicians should be aware of M. arginini's potential as a pathogen in immunocompromised persons with animal contact.

BACKGROUND: Clinically suspect arthralgia (CSA) is characterised by arthralgia of small joints and considered a risk stage for development of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). However, it remains unknown if the function of the hands is already affected and what mechanisms underlie impaired hand-function in CSA.
METHODS: We studied various measures of hand function in two CSA populations. CSA patients in the TREAT EARLIER-trial (n=236) were evaluated at baseline for: grip strength on a dynamometer (GS), patient-reported difficulties in the grip domain of the Health Assessment Questionnaire (HAQ) ques

PURPOSE: Characteristic swelling has been described as a differentiating sign of pyogenic flexor tenosynovitis (PFT) but has not been validated. We conducted a retrospective study of adults with finger infections to compare radiographic parameters of soft tissue dimensions. Our hypothesis was that in patients with digit infections, radiographic soft tissue thickness measurement would differ between PFT and non-PFT infected digits.
METHODS: Patients with a finger infection and radiographic evaluation were identified retrospectively at a large academic medical center and divided into 2 groups:

Tenosynovitis of one or more flexor tendons of the hand (mean 3.1 tendons per patient) was noted in 55% of 100 patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) examined periodically during a mean period of 5 years. The third flexor tendon was involved most frequently (71% of patients), followed by the second (62%), fourth (53%), fifth (27%), and first (13%). Patients with flexor tendonitis (FT) had a significantly higher prevalence of rheumatoid nodules (56% vs 33%), carpal tunnel syndrome (47% vs 13%), wrist extensor tenosynovitis (47% vs 9%), and elbow epicondylitis (22% vs 7%) than patients without

This case describes a previously underreported case of flexor tenosynovitis. A 23-year-old male slaughterhouse employee presented with several weeks of increased pain and swelling in their left third digit. They failed nonoperative management, including anti-inflammatory medication and oral steroids, followed by corticosteroid injection. Intraoperative pathology demonstrated subacute flexor tenosynovitis due to a rare parasitic infection of Dirofilaria immitis. Dirofilaria immitis, a parasitic roundworm commonly found in dogs, rarely causes zoonotic infections in humans. In cases when this par

Background Acute pyogenic flexor tenosynovitis (APFT) is typically managed operatively, but there is growing interest in nonoperative treatments using intravenous (IV) antibiotics to reduce surgical complications. Timely intervention is essential, as delayed treatment increases the risk of systemic, life-threatening infections. This study aimed to characterize national trends in the operative management of APFT and to compare mortality and amputation outcomes between operatively and nonoperatively managed patients. Methods A retrospective analysis was conducted using data from the TriNetX Unit

OBJECTIVE: Calcific tendonitis refers to the pathological deposition of calcium salts in or around tendons, leading to local inflammation and pain. It is commonly seen in the shoulder region, and occurrences in the wrist or hand are uncommon. This case report aims to describe a patient with calcific tendonitis of the wrist extensor tendons and to highlight the successful use of extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) as a treatment.
CASE PRESENTATION: Calcific Tendonitis of Extensor Tendons was diagnosed both via X-ray and Computed Tomography (CT) and was successfully treated with shockwave.

Trapeziometacarpal (TMC) arthroplasty is a widely accepted treatment for osteoarthritis of the TMC joint. However, one potential complication is De Quervain's tenosynovitis and its cause post-arthroplasty remains unclear. The aim of this study was to evaluate whether thumb lengthening, as measured by the Scaphometacarpal Index (SMI), is associated with the incidence of De Quervain's tenosynovitis following TMC arthroplasty. A retrospective analysis was conducted of 114 TMC arthroplasties performed between 2015 and 2022. Thumb lengthening was quantified using pre- and postoperative radiographs.

De-Quervain's tenosynovitis is a painful condition characterized by wrist pain and swelling at the radial styloid process due to inflammation and thickening of the tendon sheath of the abductor pollicis longus and extensor pollicis brevis. Conventional treatment includes rest, analgesics, corticosteroid injections, and surgical release. In Ayurveda, this condition is correlated with Snayugata Vata, where Agnikarma (therapeutic heat) is recommended. A 55-year-old female presented with severe left wrist pain, swelling and difficulty in performing household work for 20 days. Finkelstein's test re

Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is the most common entrapment neuropathy of the upper limb. Although many cases are idiopathic, structural or inflammatory pathology of the flexor tendon sheath can result in secondary median nerve compression. Diabetes mellitus predisposes to such changes due to chronic connective tissue alterations, but secondary CTS arising solely from noninfective flexor tenosynovitis remains uncommon. A 49-year-old woman with recently diagnosed type 2 diabetes presented with a 2-month history of progressive right-wrist pain, paresthesia, and volar swelling. Magnetic resonance

INTRODUCTION: Chronic volar wrist swelling is a diagnostic challenge, particularly in tuberculosis-endemic regions, where both infectious and inflammatory causes must be considered. Rheumatoid tenosynovitis, an extra-articular manifestation of rheumatoid arthritis (RA), can mimic infectious tenosynovitis, especially in seronegative patients.
CASE REPORT: We report a case of a 44-year-old male presenting with progressive pain and swelling over the volar aspect of the right wrist for 2 months. Clinical findings of a local rise in temperature, tenderness, and limitation of range of motion sugges

De Quervain's disease (DQVD) is the stenosing tenosynovitis of tendons in the first extensor compartment of the forearm. It is a common inflammatory condition that is often treated conservatively. While conservative therapy is an effective modality of treatment for a large number of patients suffering from DQVD, some patients do not improve with conservative measures. Many alternative treatment modalities are recognized in the treatment of DQVD. One of the non-surgical treatment strategies that is currently on the rise is platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections into the first dorsal extensor com

Tuberculous hand tenosynovitis is a rare localization of tuberculosis. It is dominated by flexor tendon involvement; tenosynovitis of the extensor tendons is exceptional. The diagnosis is usually delayed and sometimes overlooked because of the paucity and the chronicity of the symptoms and signs with the patients often seen at the stage of tendon rupture. We, hereby, report the case of a tuberculous tenosynovitis of the extensors of the left hand having evolved into a ruptured extensor tendons to the 4th and 5th digits. The surgical treatment in conjunction with the antituberculous drugs resul
