[Psychometric studies in Friedreich's ataxia].

The literature contains few reports of investigations on the mental state of subjects with Friedreich's ataxia. Most are based on clinical findings and lead to differing conclusions. For some authors the neurological disease is associated with mental deficits of varying magnitude, for others the mental state of the patients is accompanied by any deficit. The authors discuss five cases and try to supplement clinical findings with a series of psychometric tests in three areas: intellectual efficiency, higher cortical functions and elements of personality. The clinical and psychometric results ar

Dynamic myocardial perfusion computed tomography with mental stress test to detect changes in myocardial microcirculation in patients with anxiety and no obstructive coronary artery disease.

OBJECTIVE: Mental stress can induce myocardial ischemia in patients with anxiety and other psychological disorders. Computed tomography myocardial perfusion imaging (CT-MPI) has the potential to quantitatively diagnose myocardial ischemia. The aim of this study was to measure changes in myocardial microcirculation perfusion (MMP) in patients with anxiety who have angina symptoms/ischemia but no obstructive coronary artery disease (INOCA) using dynamic CT-MPI in combination with a mental stress test. METHODS: Patients with INOCA were divided into five subgroups (none, minimal, mild, moderate,

The Screen for Child Anxiety Related Emotional Disorders (SCARED) was completed by children and their mothers at 11 years of age. Results show that compared with children who were securely attached in infancy, children who were ambivalently attached had higher levels of school phobia, and, that compared with boys who were securely attached bo

The thalamus network seems responsible for the depression and anxiety affecting risk-taking.

Risk-taking refers to making decisions in risky situations that involve both high risk and high payoff. Previous studies have found that depressed and anxious individuals often exhibit impaired function in risk-taking. However, the neural mechanisms responsible for how depression and anxiety affect individuals' risk-taking are still unknown. Using a sample of 245 participants, functional and structural brain scanning using a 3T MRI machine was performed, along with the depression anxiety stress scale (DASS) test, as well as the balloon analog risk task (BART) test. The results showed that depr
