Successful minimally invasive management of primary maxillary central incisors after lateral luxation: a case report.

Lateral luxation in primary maxillary incisors is a traumatic injury that can lead to darkening of the tooth, pulp necrosis, root resorption, and damage to the permanent teeth. Management of this kind of trauma typically includes pulpectomy or extraction in cases of root resorption. However, in young children, removal of the tooth may be psychological stressing, especially for the parents, while increased mobility can make immediate endodontic treatment difficult to perform. This article outlines a severe palatal luxation on the maxillary right central incisor treated with conservative managem

[Semi-rigid bracket splinting of teeth after traumatic luxation].

We describe a non-rigid procedure using brackets for splinting teeth after traumatic avulsion. This type of appliance preserves alveolodental ligament physiology and enables immediate mastication without occlusal obstruction. Installation is easy, except when severe bleeding or alveolar fracture occurs.

Treatment of avulsed immature permanent teeth in Beijing China: A retrospective comparison between 2008 and 2015.

BACKGROUND/AIMS: The diagnosis and treatment of dental trauma are developing rapidly in China. Therapeutic methods used to treat immature avulsed teeth remain a unique challenge in the clinical setting. The aim of this study was to compare the differences in the survival rate and management of avulsed teeth over two distinct periods. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Forty immature permanent avulsed teeth of 34 patients (28 boys, 6 girls) were included in this study between 1 July 2008 and 30 June 2009 (group 1, 17 teeth), and 1 January 2015 and 31 December 2015 (group 2, 23 teeth). The patients' mean a

Life cycles of traumatized teeth: long-term observations from a cohort of dental trauma victims - series 2.

In this the second of a series of life cycles of dental trauma victims, the short and particularly long-term responses of four survivors of either multiple luxation injuries or avulsions have been documented over periods varying up to 41 years. The development of ankylosis, either in the short or longer term post trauma, proved a common feature in the series and management strategies have been outlined. External invasive resorption was also identified as a complicating response for which the topical application of trichloracetic acid, intracanal dressing and root canal obturation proved effect

Management of trauma to supporting dental structures.

Teeth, periodontium, and supporting alveolar bone are frequently involved in trauma and account for approximately 15% of all emergency room visits. The cause of the dentoalveolar trauma varies in different demographics but generally results from falls, playground accidents, domestic violence, bicycle accidents, motor vehicle accidents, assaults, altercations, and sports injuries. Dentoalveolar injuries should be considered an emergency situation because successful management of the injury requires proper diagnosis and treatment within a limited time to achieve better outcomes.

[Pulpectomy. Why? When?].

There are many circumstances under which the condition of the pulp calls for root canal work, due to the real or potential risk of pain, infection, inflammation or functional difficulties (acute, irreversible pulpitis, chronic pulpitic conditions, necrosis and its consequences, etc.). Other circumstances exist in which injury to the pulp is not necessarily irreversible: initial pulpitis, iatrogenic fracture of the pulp, traumatisms, dystrophic deteriorations. The high success rate for endodontic therapy could argue for elimination of impaired or necrose-prone pulp. In fact, however, unsuccessf

Glandular odontogenic cyst: An updated analysis of 169 cases reported in the literature.

OBJECTIVE: To integrate the available data published on glandular odontogenic cyst (GOC) into a comprehensive analysis of its clinical/radiological and histopathological features. METHODS: An electronic search was undertaken in May/2017. Eligibility criteria included publications having enough clinical/radiological/histological information to confirm the diagnosis. RESULTS: Fifty-eight publications (169 GOCs) were included. The lesion was slightly more prevalent in men than in women. There was a high prevalence in the fifty/sixth decades of life, in the anterior regions, and in mandibles. Le

Management of a laterally luxated upper incisor caused by the hit of a rifle stock.

Lateral luxation is the displacement of the tooth in a direction other than axial, which is accompanied by comminution or fracture of the alveolar socket. Lateral luxation is one of the most prevalent dental injuries among the general population, resulting in up to 27% of all dental wounds. All physical activities have an associated risk of orofacial injuries due to falls, collisions, and contact with hard surfaces. Just like any other training activities, military training exercises present a significant risk of dental traumas, which comprise 2% to 8% of all military dental emergencies. The a

Auto-alloplastic transplantation of a primary canine after traumatic loss of a permanent central incisor.

This report describes the transplantation of a primary canine after traumatic loss of a central incisor in an 8-year-old boy. The 7-month follow-up revealed normal periodontal healing with absence of infection, ankylosis or progressive resorption. The patient was then lost for control. After 16 months another trauma in the same patient resulted in an avulsion of the transplant. However, the alveolar bone was maintained in vertical and sagittal dimensions. Another primary canine was transplanted and followed for further 11 months. Again normal periodontal healing could be observed. The transpla

Replantation of avulsed teeth: considerations and complications.

Avulsion of teeth is a traumatic dental injury which can be managed by replantation. Important considerations for successful replantations are highlighted. Several sequelae to replantation are discussed in relation to the clinical features observed in a patient seen 6 years after replantation of two avulsed upper incisors. Many of these complications might have been avoided if the patient had returned to the clinic for root canal therapy shortly after the teeth was replanted.

A case report of severe external resorption.

External root resorption is a multifactorial process with many causes. Except for transient surface resorption, it is usually considered an irreversible process. Treatment can arrest or retard the resorptive process. Many factors that have been associated with this process include physiologic resorption, local factors, systemic conditions, and idiopathic resorption. This case report documents a 29-year-old white male who suffered a motor vehicle accident and dental trauma nine years ago. The accident resulted in the lateral displacement of the maxillary right canine. The maxillary right latera

An Interdisciplinary Management of Avulsed Maxillary Incisors: A Case Report.

The current case report presents a case of a road traffic accident comprising dental avulsion of maxillary incisors. A 30-year-old male reported missing teeth following trauma in his upper front tooth region. The avulsion of maxillary right central and lateral incisors along with laceration in upper and lower lips was evident. The avulsed teeth were stored in milk after a brief extra-oral dry time of one hour and were carried to the department with a one-hour delay. After clinical and radiographic investigations, no mobility or fractures were apparently noticed. The avulsed 11 and 12 had close

Radiographic and Histologic Evaluation of Experimentally Induced Severe Intrusive Luxation of Immature Teeth in Rats.

INTRODUCTION: The aim of this study was to establish an intrusive luxation model in rats and observe the pulpal and periodontal outcomes. METHODS: The intrusion was experimentally induced by an application of 20-N force on the occlusal surface of maxillary right second molar along the tooth axial using a striking instrument in 3-week-old male Sprague-Dawley rats. Thirty rats were divided into 6 groups (n = 5) and were sacrificed after 3, 7, 14, 30, 60, and 90 days of the surgery. The occurrence of pulpal and periodontal complications was observed by micro-computed tomographic scanning and hem

Complete replacement resorption after replantation of maxillary incisors: report of case.

This article describes the treatment of a 17-year-old patient with complete root resorption of the maxillary permanent central and lateral incisors following avulsion and replantation seven years ago. The most important factor influencing the prognosis of replanted teeth is the status of the periodontal ligament (PDL). As a result of replantation, the PDL cells necrosed and tooth replacement resorption occurred. The main factors, which affected the resorption after replantation and survival of PDL cells, could be summarize as; dry extraoral time greater than 30 minutes, the kept tooth in a dry
