Collective Sensemaking and Healthcare Workers' Ripple Effect Influencing Vaccine Hesitancy in West Michigan.

The social efficacy of vaccines has been a central concern around COVID-19 vaccine uptake rates. As partners on the Vaccinate West Michigan Coalition, we conducted a rapid ethnographic assessment project among adults living in West Michigan. Three case studies are presented to convey the nuanced context around decisions with a focus on the influence of fear, trust, and the ripple effect of healthcare workers' (HCW) beliefs around vaccines. While HCWs' attitudes and beliefs influence their patients, the unique contribution of this study is its focus on how HCWs' perceptions influence friends an

A cross-sectional investigation of factors influencing mpox vaccine hesitancy for students in Southwest China.

From July to September 2023, China reported over 1, 400 confirmed cases of mpox transmitted mainly through sexual contact between males. Meanwhile, the percentage of men who have sex with men at universities in southwestern China is increasing every year, which is likely to lead to a potential spread of mpox on campuses. Vaccination is an effective preventive measure against infectious diseases, this study examined the willingness of university students in Southwest China to receive the mpox vaccine and analyzed the factors influencing their decision. A cross-sectional survey was conducted amo

Potential determinants of vaccine hesitancy among celiac disease patients: a single cohort analysis.

INTRODUCTION: Though researchers and scholars have greatly emphasized addressing the influencing factors of vaccination hesitancy, little attention has been paid to patients with celiac disease. Addressing the variables hampering attitudes might help direct appropriate patient advocacy and doctor-patient communication endeavors to encourage vaccination among celiac disease patients. The present investigation seeks to explore the coverage against vaccine-preventable diseases, vaccination attitudes, and related possible factors among celiac disease patients in the Pakistani setting. METHODS: A

COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy in care home staff: A survey of Liverpool care homes.

Uptake of COVID-19 vaccine first doses in UK care homes has been higher among residents compared to staff. We aimed to identify causes of lower COVID-19 vaccine uptake amongst care home staff within Liverpool. An anonymised online survey was distributed to all care home managers, between the 21st and the 29th January 2021. 53 % of 87 care homes responded. The overall COVID-19 vaccination rate was 52.6 % (n = 1119). Reasons, identified by care home managers for staff being unvaccinated included: concerns about lack of vaccine research (37.0 %), staff being off-site during vaccination sessions (

Patient-reported influences on COVID-19 vaccine acceptance and hesitancy in people with hidradenitis suppurativa.

COVID-19 continues to pose a risk to patients with hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) due to the high prevalence of comorbidities associated with severe COVID-19 disease. We aimed to characterize perspectives on COVID-19 vaccination among patients with HS. International respondents from 20 online HS support groups were recruited to complete a voluntary, anonymous, online cross-sectional survey from 25 October to 21 November 2021 to obtain perspectives from people with HS who may and may not access healthcare. We report higher rates of COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy among patients with HS who expressed

COVID-19 Vaccine Hesitancy in Rural Midwestern Infertility Patients: A Cross-Sectional Survey.

BACKGROUND: Pregnant patients with COVID-19 experience higher rates of maternal mortality, pregnancy loss, and other severe comorbidities. Despite these well-characterized risks, this group displayed a high level of vaccine hesitancy that contributed to their slow acceptance of the COVID-19 vaccinations and greater maternal mortality during the pandemic. The rural Midwest was no exception to this unfortunate trend, so here we sought to determine attitudes, beliefs, and perceptions in these women and their partners associated with vaccine hesitancy to better address uncertainties and improve va

Rabies Vaccine Hesitancy and Deaths Among Pregnant and Breastfeeding Women - Vietnam, 2015-2016.

Human rabies deaths are preventable through prompt administration of postexposure prophylaxis (PEP) with rabies immune globulin and rabies vaccine after exposure to a rabid animal (1); there are no known contraindications to receiving PEP (1,2). Despite widespread availability of PEP in Vietnam, in 2015 the Ministry of Health (MoH) received reports of pregnant and breastfeeding women with clinically diagnosed rabies. MoH investigated factors associated with these rabies cases. MoH found that, during 2015-2016, among 169 cases reported in Vietnam, two probable cases of rabies were reported in b

Overcoming HPV vaccine hesitancy: insights from a successful school-based vaccination campaign in the Saa health district of Cameroon.

BACKGROUND: Vaccination against human papillomavirus (HPV) represents a critical strategy in the global effort to eradicate cervical cancer. Nonetheless, the uptake of HPV vaccination in Cameroon has been slow, resulting in vaccine wastage during a period of constrained global supply. In the Saa health district, factors such as concerns about infertility, fears of COVID-19 infection, and restrictions on HPV awareness initiatives in Catholic churches and schools have been identified as contributors to vaccine hesitancy. This report outlines the observations from a successful impromptu HPV vacci

Determining the Prevalence and Correlates of COVID-19 Booster Vaccine Hesitancy in the Singapore Population Following the Completion of the Primary Vaccination Series.

In response to declining vaccine-induced immunity and the emergence of new COVID-19 variants, COVID-19 booster vaccination programmes have been widely launched in several high-income countries. However, public response has been slow, and scepticism about these programmes is rising in these settings. This study sought to identify the sociodemographic, emotional, and psychological factors associated with COVID-19 booster vaccine hesitancy in Singapore. Derived from a community cohort, 1005 fully vaccinated adults (62.1% female, mean age = 42.6 years) that had not received their COVID-19 booster

Yellow fever vaccine hesitancy and its relationship with contextual, individual, or group influences and vaccine-specific issues: a scoping review.

Vaccine hesitancy is a phenomenon with the potential to reduce vaccination coverage rates, as observed with the yellow fever vaccine (YFV), leading to epidemics and the reintroduction of controlled immunopreventable diseases. This study, together with the scientific literature, aims to map the relationship among the lack of information, vaccine safety and adverse events, and vaccine hesitancy concerning YFV. A scoping review was conducted in the Virtual Health Library (VHL), National Library of Medicine (PubMed), SCOPUS, Embase, and Web of Science databases, using controlled (DeCS/MeSH) and un
