Primary Care Interventions to Address COVID-19 Vaccine Hesitancy Among Israel Defense Forces Soldiers.

Vaccine hesitancy is an obstacle to achieving high vaccination rates for COVID-19. Current knowledge on vaccine uptake is mostly based on hypothetical intention to vaccinate surveys. We compared intention to vaccinate and real-world vaccine uptake among 511 soldiers in a military unit during an unrestricted, on-site COVID-19 vaccine rollout. Soldiers were offered group lectures, on-site consultations and primary care office visits, discussing concerns on vaccination with a primary care physician. Overall, 359 (70.3%) soldiers participated in the group lectures, 33 (6.5%) in on-site consultatio

Child-parent immunization survey: How well are national immunization recommendations accepted by the target groups?

BACKGROUND: Pertussis disease rates are high in Switzerland, especially in infants and young infants. To protect newborns from this serious disease, EKIF, the Swiss National Immunization Technical Advisory Group, has recommended vaccination against pertussis during pregnancy (2nd or 3rd trimester) since 2013. Also, since 2009, EKIF has recommended vaccination against influenza during pregnancy. We conducted this study to assess acceptance and implementation of these recently introduced recommendations. METHODS: We performed standardized interviews with parents of children born on or after 01.0

Barriers and facilitators of seasonal influenza vaccinations in German and Chinese health care workers - a comparative cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Influenza vaccination coverage among health care workers (HCWs) remains insufficient in different health care systems. To develop and implement effective interventions, a structured comparison of the psychological as well as context-driven determinants of vaccination readiness among HCWs from two different health care systems can be extremely helpful. The aim of this study was to elaborate barriers and facilitators on vaccination readiness among HCWs within the German and Chinese health care system. METHODS: Two independent online surveys among HCWs on influenza vaccination have b

Vaccinations in prison settings: A systematic review to assess the situation in EU/EEA countries and in other high income countries.

INTRODUCTION: In 2016, more than 600,000 persons were being held in EU/EEA correctional facilities on a given day. People in prison may be at risk of vaccine-preventable diseases. While vaccination recommendations for people in prison exist, little is known on coverage and implementation options. METHODS: We performed a systematic review on existing evidence on vaccination in prison settings in the EU/EEA. We searched peer-reviewed and grey literature following international methodology and reporting standards, to gather records published between 1980 and 2016 in all languages. We analysed qu

Post-Pandemic Resurgence of Pertussis in Southeastern Romania, 2024: Vaccination Gaps, Clinical Severity, and Regional Surveillance Performance.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Following the COVID-19 pandemic, pertussis resurged sharply across Europe, with 209,674 cases reported in the EU/EEA in 2024. This study characterises the epidemiology of the 2024 pertussis resurgence across five counties of southeastern Romania, with emphasis on vaccination status, clinical severity, and regional surveillance performance. METHODS: A retrospective, population-based analysis was conducted on 452 cases notified between February 2024 and January 2025, extracted from the national surveillance database. A pre-specified reclassification of PCR-positive cases

MMR vaccination status of children exempted from school-entry immunization mandates.

BACKGROUND: Child immunizations are one of the most successful public health interventions of the past century. Still, parental vaccine hesitancy is widespread and increasing. One manifestation of this are rising rates of nonmedical or "personal beliefs" exemptions (PBEs) from school-entry immunization mandates. Exemptions have been shown to be associated with increased risk of disease outbreak, but the strength of this association depends critically on the true vaccination status of exempted children, which has not been assessed. OBJECTIVE: To estimate the true measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) va

US healthcare professionals' knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding RSV disease and vaccination in adults during the 2024-2025 RSV season.

BACKGROUND: Adults aged ≥60 years and adults with certain chronic medical conditions are at increased risk for severe respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) disease. However, RSV vaccine uptake in the United States (US) remains low, with limited awareness of RSV among adults and potential knowledge gaps among healthcare professionals (HCPs). This study assessed US HCP knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) related to RSV disease and vaccination. METHODS: A cross-sectional, web-based survey was administered among 700 HCPs, including primary care physicians (PCPs), specialist physicians, nurse pr

[Poliomyelitis--Challenges for the Last Mile of the Eradication Programme].

The World Health Organisation initiated the Global Polio Eradication Initiative in the year 1988. With the large-scale application of routine and mass vaccinations in children under the age of 5 years, polio disease has become restricted to only 3 endemic countries (Afghanistan, Pakistan and Nigeria) by today. However, since the beginning of the 21st century, increasing numbers of secondary polio epidemics have been observed which were triggered through migration, political turmoil and weak health systems. In addition, there emerged serious technical (e. g., back-mutations of oral vaccine viru

Informing education policy on MMR: balancing individual freedoms and collective responsibilities for the promotion of public health.

The recent decrease in public confidence in the measles, mumps and rubella vaccine has important implications for individuals and public health. This article presents moral arguments relating to conflicts between individual autonomy and collective responsibilities in vaccination decisions with a view to informing and advising health professionals and improving the effectiveness of education policies in avoiding resurgence of endemic measles. Lower population immunity, due to falling uptake, is hastening the need for greater public awareness of the consequences for the population. Vaccination r

A survey of UK parental attitudes to the MMR vaccine and trust in medical authority.

Contested reports associating the MMR vaccine with autism have resulted in diminished confidence and uptake of the vaccine in the UK. This postal survey of parent's decisions, attitudes and use of information about MMR immunisation was constructed from questions derived from in-depth qualitative work. The setting was a Primary Care Trust in northeast England (N=996). Both MMR-accepting and refusing parents were supportive of immunisation, yet the high level of concern about the safety of the vaccine expressed even by parents who had immunised their children is worrying in its implications for

Attitudes of homoeopathic physicians towards vaccination.

Vaccinations are one of the most effective preventive procedures in modern medicine. However, earlier studies have indicated that homoeopathic physicians do not recommend or apply vaccinations as frequently as their allopathic colleagues. Few studies have been undertaken to clarify this question and most of these have not distinguished between medically and non-medically qualified homoeopathic practitioners. Therefore, misunderstandings have arisen concerning this question. In the study presented only medically qualified colleagues were included. In the course of this study, 219 medically qual

Social Identities and Vaccine Exemptions in the United States: The Role of Religiosity, Partisanship, and Vaccine Hesitancy.

Nonmedical vaccine exemptions are increasingly common in the United States and threaten population immunity levels in children. While vaccine hesitancy and pediatric vaccination coverage in the United States have been extensively researched, work focused on vaccine exemptions remains relatively limited. The objectives of this study are to examine associations between parental religious, partisan, and vaccine-hesitant social identities and vaccine exemptions. A national, cross-sectional survey was conducted from August 20 through September 9, 2025. Parents and legal guardians of children five y

COVID-19 Vaccine Hesitancy in Rural Midwestern Infertility Patients: A Cross-Sectional Survey.

BACKGROUND: Pregnant patients with COVID-19 experience higher rates of maternal mortality, pregnancy loss, and other severe comorbidities. Despite these well-characterized risks, this group displayed a high level of vaccine hesitancy that contributed to their slow acceptance of the COVID-19 vaccinations and greater maternal mortality during the pandemic. The rural Midwest was no exception to this unfortunate trend, so here we sought to determine attitudes, beliefs, and perceptions in these women and their partners associated with vaccine hesitancy to better address uncertainties and improve va

The Impact of Australian Childhood Vaccination Mandates on Immunization Specialists and Their Interactions With Families.

BACKGROUND: Recent global outbreaks of vaccine-preventable diseases, both before and since the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic, have led to the introduction or strengthening of vaccine mandate policies to target vaccine refusal. Globally, there is wide variation in how governments and jurisdictions implement and enforce mandatory vaccination as well as the financial and educational consequences to those who fail to comply. We explored the impact of mandate vaccination policies on Australian Immunization Specialists who work in Specialist Immunization Clinics (SIC) for approving vaccine exemp

Vaccination Against Seasonal or Pandemic Influenza in Emergency Medical Services.

INTRODUCTION: Influenza is a major concern for Emergency Medical Services (EMS); EMS workers' (EMS-Ws) vaccination rates remain low despite promotion. Determinants of vaccination for seasonal influenza (SI) or pandemic influenza (PI) are unknown in this setting. HYPOTHESIS: The influence of the H1N1 pandemic on EMS-W vaccination rates, differences between SI and PI vaccination rates, and the vaccination determinants were investigated. METHODS: A survey was conducted in 2011 involving 65 Swiss EMS-Ws. Socio-professional data, self-declared SI/PI vaccination status, and motives for vaccine ref

Resurgent measles in Türkiye: predictors of severe disease in a nationwide paediatric cohort, 2023.

Measles remains among the most important global health threats worldwide. A global increase has been reported since 2022, peaking in 2024, which heightens the risk of imported infections, particularly from unvaccinated children and adults, and measles outbreaks persist where immunity gaps remain. The aim of this study was to assess the clinical severity, complications, and outcomes of measles in hospitalised children as well as the effect of vaccination status on measles in Türkiye in 2023. We performed a retrospective, multicentre cohort study that included 34 medical centres between 1 Januar

Parents attitudinal and social influences on childhood vaccination.

The study examined beliefs and attitudes towards pertussis (and other) vaccinations in three groups of caregivers; those who had fully vaccinated a target child against pertussis (FV; n = 85), those whose child partially completed the course (PV; n = 70) and those who refused to have their child receive the pertussis vaccination (NV; n = 73). The NV group reported significantly more concern over long-term health problems as a result of pertussis vaccination, a lower risk of catching pertussis if not immunized and attached a lower importance to pertussis vaccination than either of the other two

Why Aren't We Achieving High Vaccination Rates for Rotavirus Vaccine in the United States?

BACKGROUND: Rotavirus vaccine (RV) coverage levels for US infants are <80%. METHODS: We surveyed nationally representative networks of pediatricians by internet/mail from April to June, 2019. Multivariable regression assessed factors associated with difficulty administering the first RV dose (RV#1) by the maximum age. RESULTS: Response rate was 68% (303/448). Ninety-nine percent of providers reported strongly recommending RV. The most common barriers to RV delivery overall (definite/somewhat of a barrier) were: parental concerns about vaccine safety overall (27%), parents wanting to defer (2
