Plant-derived neuroprotective compounds and nanoformulations targeting Parkinson's disease: a semi-systematic review of mechanisms and therapeutic potential.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized by aggregates of α-synuclein and the degeneration of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra. Current pharmaceutical therapies mainly alleviate symptoms without halting disease progression. Evidence suggests that traditional plant-based interventions may serve as supplementary therapies by targeting oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, neuroinflammation, and apoptosis. This review explores the neuroprotective properties of ten medicinal plants commonly used in traditional medicine: Bacopa monnieri,

Withaferin A inhibits breast cancer-induced osteoclast differentiation.

Bone is the most prone to metastatic spread of breast cancer cells for each subtype of the disease. Bone metastasis-related complications including severe pain and pathological fractures affect patients' quality of life. Current treatment options including surgery, radiation, and bone-targeted therapies (e.g., bisphosphonates) are costly or have serious adverse effects such as renal toxicity and osteonecrosis of the jaws. Therefore, a safe, inexpensive, and efficacious agent for prevention of breast cancer bone metastasis is urgently needed. Our previously published RNA sequencing analysis rev

Acne Vulgaris: Integrating Pathophysiology with Conventional, Herbal, and Nanocarrier-Based Therapeutic Strategies.

Acne vulgaris is a chronic inflammatory disease of the pilosebaceous unit, affecting 9.4% of the population globally, and is one of the most prevalent dermatoses globally. It is most common in adolescents but can continue through adulthood, causing physical and emotional health deterioration. Acne is a multifactorial process involving genetic factors, hormonal factors, sebum production, hyperkeratinization of the follicular lumen, colonization by Cutibacterium acnes bacteria and inflammation [Ma2.1]. Inflammation is now recognised as a critical process from microcomedone formation to the devel

Screening of sleep assisting drug candidates with a Drosophila model.

Lately, Drosophila has been favored as a model in sleep and circadian rhythm research due to its conserved mechanism and easily manageable operation. These studies have revealed the sophisticated parameters in whole-day sleep profiles of Drosophila, drawing connections between Drosophila sleep and human sleep. In this study, we tested several sleep deprivation protocols (mechanical shakes and light interruptions) on Drosophila and delineated their influences on Drosophila sleep. We applied a daytime light-deprivation protocol (DD) mimicking jet-lag to screen drugs that alleviate sleep deprivat

Thiol dependent NF-κB suppression and inhibition of T-cell mediated adaptive immune responses by a naturally occurring steroidal lactone Withaferin A.

Withaferin A (WA), a steroidal lactone isolated from ayurvedic medicinal plant Withania somnifera, was shown to inhibit tumor growth by inducing oxidative stress and suppressing NF-κB pathway. However, its effect on T-cell mediated adaptive immune responses and the underlying mechanism has not been investigated. Since both T-cell responses and NF-κB pathway are known to be redox sensitive, the present study was undertaken to elucidate the effect of WA on adaptive immune responses in vitro and in vivo. WA inhibited mitogen induced T-cell and B-cell proliferation in vitro without inducing any ce

Mechanistic Potentials of Natural Herbal Medicines (NHMs) in Promoting Bone Regeneration: A Comprehensive Review.

Bone healing remains a major clinical challenge, especially in conditions such as osteoporosis, delayed unions, and critical-sized defects, where conventional therapies often prove inadequate. Current approaches, including growth factor therapies, autografts, and allografts, are limited by complications such as immunological reactions, donor-site morbidity, high cost, and poor long-term outcomes. In recent years, Natural Herbal Medicines (NHMs) have emerged as promising alternatives owing to their osteogenic, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties. Phytoconstituents such as flavonoids,

Medicinal Plants and Their Bioactive Phytochemicals as Emerging Therapeutic Strategies for Alzheimer's Disease: An Integrative Review of Preclinical and Clinical Evidence.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized by β-amyloid deposition, tau hyperphosphorylation, mitochondrial dysfunction, oxidative stress, neuroinflammation, and blood-brain barrier disruption, collectively leading to widespread cortical and subcortical atrophy. Current FDA-approved pharmacotherapies, including acetylcholinesterase inhibitors and memantine, provide only modest symptomatic relief and fail to halt disease progression, underscoring the urgent need for alternative therapeutic approaches. Growing evidence highlights medicinal plants and their
