PURPOSE: This study aimed to determine the incidence and characteristics of strabismus following congenital cataract surgery in infants.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Patients aged <12 months who underwent surgery for congenital cataract and were followed-up for ≥1 years were included. Patients that had strabismus prior to surgery were excluded. We report the outcome of hydrogel intracorneal lens implantation in 2 patients. The lenses were implanted at approximately 50% depth in the cornea to correct high hyperopic refractive errors of 10.5 diopters (D) and 14.0 D, respectively. In aphakic eyes with an intact iris, the use of an inferior peripheral iridectomy prevents SO prolapse into the anterior chamber, thereby preventing glaucoma and keratopathy. PURPOSE: The purpose of our study was to assess the long-term tolerance of aphakic contact lenses in an elderly male population.
METHODS: We conducted a follow-up study of Bausch & Lomb CW 79 aphakic extended wear contact lenses fit since 1982. A total of 109 patients (115 eyes) were identified. Records of 37 patients (43 eyes) were available to determine the course of contact lens wear.

BACKGROUND: Children who have had cataract removal tend to have decreasing hyperopia (myopic shift) as they grow older. We wondered if the rate of myopic shift could be determined by age at surgery, cataract type, glaucoma, or other factors.
METHODS: We studied 156 aphakic eyes of children who had cataract surgery before age 10 and documented refractions for more than 3 years. Refraction was corrected with contact lenses and spectacles; glaucoma was managed with medicine and surgery. Stepwise multiple regression was used to analyze differences in the rate of myopic shift between subgroups.

PURPOSE: To evaluate whether very early treatment for congenital unilateral cataract results in better long-term functional outcomes, grating acuity, contrast sensitivity, recognition acuity, and random-dot stereoacuity were evaluated in two groups of children.

Two cases of intracorneal hemorrhage developing as a complication of aphakic contact lens use are reported. Patient 1 had a penetrating keratoplasty to restore vision and therefore the histologic examination could be performed on the corneal button. In patient 2 the contact lens use was discontinued with partial resolution of the intracorneal hemorrhage and the patient then underwent a secondary intraocular lens implantation with good visual results.

A Nd:YAG laser developed for ophthalmic surgery was studied for safety and efficacy in secondary discission of the posterior capsule in aphakic and pseudophakic subjects. The study involves 6,800 subjects, 526 of whom had completed the six-month postoperative course by the time the data base was closed for analysis.
