Surgical Technique and Outcome of Custom Joint-Sparing Endoprosthesis as a Reconstructive Modality in Juxta-Articular Bone Sarcoma.

BACKGROUND: Joint-sparing limb salvage surgery (JSLSS) is an advancement in the techniques and concepts of limb salvage surgery, which makes it possible to save not only the limb affected by malignancy but also the adjacent joint and the epiphyseal plate. In the growing child, this procedure is technically demanding due to the availability of small length of bone for implant purchase. Reconstruction options can be biological reconstruction or endoprosthesis; however, the outcome of endoprosthetic reconstruction after joint-sparing resection is not well described in the literature. PURPOSES: (

Evaluating the Impact of Insurer-Sponsored Health Coaching on Hospitalization and Costs in India: A Retrospective Cohort Study.

Health coaching programs are emerging as a promising intervention to improve disease management and reduce healthcare costs, particularly in the context of insurer-sponsored wellness initiatives. While such programs have shown positive outcomes in Western healthcare settings, their effectiveness in India remains underexplored. This study examines the impact of a health coaching program implemented by a prominent Indian health insurer (Aditya Birla Health Insurance), focusing on hospitalization rates and claims paid among high-risk policyholders. To assess the intervention's effectiveness, a re

Arthroscopy for chronic hemophilic synovitis of the knee.

Between 1988 and 1995, 32 knee joints (29 patients) with hemophilic arthropathy underwent arthroscopy. The spectrum of procedures ranged from resection of fibrous plicae to synovectomy. Technical difficulties appeared in cases of scarred fixed patella, pronounced posterior tibia subluxation, and severe fibrous ankylosis. All operations done between 1988 and 1991 (23 operations; 21 patients) were reviewed retrospectively. The mean age of the patients in this series was 30 years and the mean followup was 5 years. On subjective evaluation, 13 operations achieved a definite improvement, five showe

Workers' compensation experience of North Carolina residential construction workers, 1986-1994.

A total of 31,113 workers' compensation claims among 7,400 North Carolina Homebuilders Association (NCHA) members and their subcontractors for the period 1986-1994 were analyzed to calculate workers' compensation claim incidence density rates. For the 7 years studied, the average rate (cases/200,000 work hours) for all claims was 16.40 and the rate for medical or lost time cases was 10.78. Highest rates for cases involving medical costs or paid lost time by mechanism of injury were observed for being struck by an object (3.1), lifting/movement (1.97), falls from a different level (1.13), strik

Optimising femoral-head osteochondral allograft transplantation in a preclinical model.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVE: Osteochondral autografting and allografting of the femoral head have been described as treatments for avascular necrosis without segmental collapse, fracture, osteochondritis dissecans, and tumours. One long-term study reported that 80% of nonsteroid-treated patients had successful outcomes. Most data are compiled from small case reports or series. Although these results are encouraging, to the authors' knowledge, there is no basic scientific evidence regarding optimal graft source or technique reported in the peer-reviewed literature. The objective of this study was to c

Two-dimensional robot-assisted physeal-sparing medial patellofemoral ligament reconstruction can achieve favourable clinical outcomes for skeletally immature patients with recurrent patellar dislocation.

PURPOSE: The surgical treatment of recurrent patellar dislocation (PRD) in adolescents faces particular difficulties, since the integrity of open growth plates may be compromised by standard surgical methods used in adults. This study aimed to review a series of adolescents with RPD who underwent robot-assisted physeal-sparing medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) reconstruction, compare the clinical results with those of a non-robot-assisted group, and measure the vertical distance between Schöttle point and the physis intraoperatively. METHODS: This retrospective clinical analysis included

Bone scintigraphy in the diagnosis and management of traumatic injury.

Imaging with bone-seeking nuclear medicine radiopharmaceuticals has changed dramatically in a span of 10 years. The only indication for bone scintigraphy a decade ago was to detect skeletal metastases in patients with known carcinoma. Improvements in equipment and radiopharmaceuticals have led to the use of nuclear medicine studies for the detection and evaluation of a multitude of benign abnormalities. This article discusses the use of bone-seeking radiopharmaceuticals in traumatic processes involving the skeletal system, connective tissues, and muscles. A review of the subject is included, a

An operative approach to address severe genu valgum deformity in the Ellis-van Creveld syndrome.

BACKGROUND: The genu valgum deformity seen in the Ellis-van Creveld syndrome is one of the most severe angular deformities seen in any orthopaedic condition. It is likely a combination of a primary genetic-based dysplasia of the lateral portion of the tibial plateau combined with severe soft-tissue contractures that tether the tibia into valgus deformations. Progressive weight-bearing induces changes, accumulating with growth, acting on the initially distorted and valgus-angulated proximal tibia, worsening the deformity with skeletal maturation. The purpose of this study is to present a relati
