Harnessing the Biologics and Biosimilars Collective Intelligence Consortium to Evaluate Patterns of Care.

INTRODUCTION: As clinical trials test efficacy rather than effectiveness of medications, real-world effectiveness data often vary from clinical trial data. Given the recent market entry of multiple biologics and biosimilars, a dedicated assessment of these diverse agents is needed to build the evidence base regarding efficacy and safety of innovator biologics and biosimilars. PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: The Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy's Biologics and Biosimilars Collective Intelligence Consortium (BBCIC) was convened to address the lack of real-world, postmarket outcome evidence generation for

Role of hypoxia-inducible factors in acute kidney injury.

Oxygen is vital to mammalian survival. Oxygen deprivation, defined as hypoxia, elicits adaptive responses in cells and tissues, a process regulated by proteins known as hypoxia-inducible factors (HIF). Animal studies have provided compelling data to demonstrate a pivotal role for the HIF pathway in the pathogenesis of acute kidney injury (AKI) that have led to initial human clinical trials examining this pathway in ischemia-reperfusion injury in various organ systems, including the kidney. HIF are master regulators and mediate adaptive responses to low oxygen in tissues and cells. This review

Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty in Open-Angle Glaucoma and Ocular Hypertension: A Narrative Review of Current Evidence.

Selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) has emerged as a primary or adjunctive treatment choice for lowering intraocular pressure (IOP) in open-angle glaucoma (OAG) and ocular hypertension (OHT), addressing limitations of long-term topical therapy such as adherence challenges and cumulative ocular surface burden. This narrative review synthesizes current evidence on the mechanisms, efficacy and durability, safety, re-treatment, and predictors of response for SLT, with additional focus on treatment parameters (180° vs. 360°), emerging laser modalities (automated direct SLT/DSLT and micropulse las

Metabolomics as a tool to identify biomarkers to predict and improve outcomes in reproductive medicine: a systematic review.

BACKGROUND: Infertility is a complex disorder with significant medical, psychological and financial consequences for patients. With live-birth rates per cycle below 30% and a drive from the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA) to encourage single embryo transfer, there is significant research in different areas aiming to improve success rates of fertility treatments. One such area is investigating the causes of infertility at a molecular level, and metabolomics techniques provide a platform for studying relevant biofluids in the reproductive tract. OBJECTIVE AND RATIONALE: The

Hemostatic resuscitation: blood product replacement during cesarean delivery.

Despite efforts to improve accurate prediction, early detection, and optimal medical and surgical treatments, obstetrical hemorrhage remains the leading cause of maternal mortality worldwide. The development and application of clinical bundles incorporating risk assessment tools focused on earlier detection and prompt intervention have demonstrated improved clinical outcomes. Many clinical bundles and obstetrical hemorrhage institutional protocols have incorporated different methods attempting to quantify intraoperative blood loss during cesarean. The addition of blood loss quantification, whe

Amniotic fluid-derived multipotent stromal cells drive diabetic wound healing through modulation of macrophages.

BACKGROUND: Cutaneous wounds in patients with diabetes exhibit impaired healing due to physiological impediments and conventional care options are severely limited. Multipotent stromal cells (MSCs) have been touted as a powerful new therapy for diabetic tissue repair owing to their trophic activity and low immunogenicity. However, variations in sources and access are limiting factors for broader adaptation and study of MSC-based therapies. Amniotic fluid presents a relatively unexplored source of MSCs and one with wide availability. Here, we investigate the potential of amniotic fluid-derived

Participatory health research and promotion with children in Germany: a scoping review.

BACKGROUND: Participatory health research and promotion (PHR/P) emphasizes collaborative knowledge production, mutual learning, and redistribution of power between academic and non-academic actors. With children, PHR/P has gained increasing legitimacy under the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, which recognizes children as rights-holders and social actors. However, little is known about how PHR/P with children is framed and enacted in Germany. This review provides the first systematic overview of PHR/P with children in Germany. METHODS: We conducted a scoping review follow

Endoscopic third ventriculostomy (ETV) for idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (iNPH).

BACKGROUND: Idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (iNPH) is a type of communicating hydrocephalus also known as non-obstructive hydrocephalus. This type of hydrocephalus is caused by impaired cerebrospinal fluid reabsorption without any obstruction in the ventricular system and is associated with normal cerebrospinal fluid pressure. It is characterised clinically by gait disturbance, cognitive dysfunction, and urinary incontinence (known as the Hakim-Adams triad). The exact cause of iNPH is unknown. It may be managed conservatively or treated surgically by inserting a ventriculoperitoneal (

Indications and Mechanisms of Action of the Main Treatment Modalities for Non-Melanoma Skin Cancer.

Skin cancer is the most common cancer worldwide. The incidence of skin cancer has been increasing worldwide. Nearly 75% of all skin cancers are basal cell carcinomas (BCC), cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) represents approximately 20%, and those remaining are melanomas (4%) or other rare tumors (1%). Given the high cure rates and the ability to histologically confirm tumor clearance, surgical therapy is the gold standard for the treatment of skin cancer. Conventional surgery is the most employed technique for the removal of non-melanoma skin cancer (NMSCs). Mohs Micrographic Surgery (M
