Community-Level Practice Checklists for Health Protection During Cold Spells in China.

Communities play a crucial role in protecting the health of vulnerable populations such as the elderly, low-income groups, and high-risk individuals during cold spells. However, current strategies for responding to cold spells primarily consist of programmatic policies that lack practicality, specificity, and detailed implementation guidelines for community workers. Therefore, this study aims to identify and analyze the challenges faced by communities in responding to cold spells, review international experiences, and develop a set of practical checklists for community-level health protection.

Experiences of trauma and psychometric properties of the Life Events Checklist among adults in Uganda.

Exposure to potentially traumatic events (PTE) is common and increases an individual's risk of developing post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other psychiatric disorders. PTEs can be screened with the Life Events Checklist for DSM 5 (LEC-5). However, the psychometric properties of the LEC-5 have never been assessed in Uganda. We aimed to estimate the prevalence of PTEs and evaluate the factor structure of the LEC-5 in a sample of N = 4,479 Ugandan adults between February 2018 -March 2020. We used the phenotyping data from a case-control study (NeuroGAP-Psychosis) in Uganda investigating

The Biodiversity of Blackflies (Diptera: Simuliidae) in Brazil: New Distribution Records and Updated Checklist.

Currently, according to the most recent Simuliidae World Inventory, there are 97 valid species of blackflies recorded in Brazil, some of which act as vectors for zoonoses such as human onchocerciasis and mansonellosis in the northern and central-western regions of the country. Meanwhile, other species can cause serious socioeconomic problems due to the nuisance of female bites. Therefore, accurate knowledge of their distribution is crucial for the development and implementation of successful preventive strategies. With this aim, this study reviewed and updated the geographical distribution of

Checklist for studies of HIV drug resistance prevalence or incidence: rationale and recommended use.

HIV drug resistance (HIVDR) is a major challenge to the effectiveness of antiretroviral therapy. Global efforts in addressing HIVDR require clear, transparent, and replicable reporting in HIVDR studies. We describe the rationale and recommended use of a checklist that should be included in reports of HIVDR incidence and prevalence. After preliminary consultations with experts on HIVDR and establishing the need for guidance on HIVDR reporting, we used a sequential, explanatory, mixed methods approach to create the checklist; together with the accompanying articles, the checklist was reviewed by

Checklists for Assessing Skills of Children With Type 1 Diabetes on Insulin Injection Technique.

BACKGROUND: School-aged children often participate in type 1 diabetes (T1D) self-care tasks. Despite widespread discussion about the importance of developing self-care skills in childhood, few explain how the health care team should assess the skills of children with T1D when performing insulin injections. OBJECTIVE: We sought to assess content validity evidence in two checklists regarding injection technique performed by children. METHODS: Two checklists were designed based on a systematic review of the insulin injection technique. Experts in pediatric diabetes, health literacy, and diabete

Interstitial Lung Disease Associated With Autoimmune Rheumatic Diseases: Checklists for Clinical Practice.

Background: Interstitial lung diseases (ILDs) are often associated with rheumatic diseases. Their early diagnosis and management are not only difficult, but also crucial, because they are associated with major morbidity and mortality and can be the first cause of death in autoimmune rheumatic diseases (ARDs). Objectives: By using methodologies, such as Nominal Group Technique (NGT) and Delphi Survey, the aims of this study were (1) to measure consensus between pulmonologists, radiologists, and rheumatologists experienced in the management of ARD-ILD; (2) to highlight the importance of a multid

Translation and cross-cultural adaptation of the Motor Behavior Checklist (MBC) into Brazilian Portuguese.

INTRODUCTION: There are only a few instruments available to assess behavioral problems in school-age children based on reports of physical education teachers. The Motor Behavior Checklist (MBC) was designed to be completed by this professional in free play-situations or during physical education classes to rate students' motor-related behavior using 5-point Likert scales. The MBC comprises 59 items distributed into two broadband factors (externalizing and internalizing) and seven behavior problem scales: rule breaking, hyperactivity/impulsivity, lack of attention, low energy, stereotyped behav

Increasing compliance of safe medication administration in pediatric anesthesia by use of a standardized checklist.

BACKGROUND: Medication errors pose a significant risk perioperatively. In the perioperative environment, common medication administration processes are not typically performed. Given the common administration of potentially harmful medications and the potential for medication errors, patient risk is substantial. Specifically, intravenous acetaminophen has been used more frequently in the perioperative period which yielded an increase in medication administration errors reported. AIMS: This project was initiated by Cincinnati Children's Hospital after an increase in perioperative acetaminophen

Psychometric Properties of the Checklist of Experiences of Psychological Abuse to the Couple in Adolescents and Young Adults.

In Ibero-America, interest in the evaluation and prevention of violence in young couples has been increasing. However, there are not enough Spanish-speaking standardized questionnaires. The psychometric analyses of the Checklist of Experiences of Psychological Abuse to the Couple (CEPA) are presented as a subset of the Checklist of Experiences of Abuse to the Couple. Overall, 1,505 adolescents participated; 828 were women, and 677 were men, aged 14 to 21 years old. A confirmatory factor analysis with the Structural Equation Modeling Software version 6.2 (EQS) was performed to consider differen

Development and Performance of a Checklist for Initial Triage After an Anthrax Mass Exposure Event.

BACKGROUND: Population exposure to Bacillus anthracis spores could cause mass casualties requiring complex medical care. Rapid identification of patients needing anthrax-specific therapies will improve patient outcomes and resource use. OBJECTIVE: To develop a checklist that rapidly distinguishes most anthrax from nonanthrax illnesses on the basis of clinical presentation and identifies patients requiring diagnostic testing after a population exposure. DESIGN: Comparison of published anthrax case reports from 1880 through 2013 that included patients seeking anthrax-related care at 2 epicente

Evaluation of a countrywide implementation of the world health organisation surgical safety checklist in Madagascar.

BACKGROUND: The 2009 World Health Organisation (WHO) surgical safety checklist significantly reduces surgical mortality and morbidity (up to 47%). Yet in 2016, only 25% of East African anesthetists regularly use the checklist. Nationwide implementation of the checklist is reported in high-income countries, but in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) reports of successful implementations are sparse, limited to single institutions and require intensive support. Since checklist use leads to the biggest improvements in outcomes in LMICs, methods of wide-scale implementation are needed. We hypo

The development and validation of a short version of the 33-item Hypomania Checklist (HCL-33).

BACKGROUND: The misdiagnosis of bipolar disorder (BD) as major depressive disorder (MDD) is common in clinical practice and may result in inappropriate treatment. The 33-item Hypomania Checklist (HCL-33) is a newly developed screening scale for BD with satisfactory psychometric properties. In this study, a short version of the HCL-33 was developed and validated to discriminate between BD and MDD. METHOD: All interviews were conducted in a major psychiatric hospital in China. The short version of HCL-33 (the HCL-23) was initially developed using a sample of 186 patients (MDD = 84, BD-I = 46, B

Audit of lymphadenectomy in lung cancer resections using a specimen collection kit and checklist.

BACKGROUND: Audits of operative summaries and pathology reports reveal wide discordance in identifying the extent of lymphadenectomy performed (the communication gap). We tested the ability of a prelabeled lymph node specimen collection kit and checklist to narrow the communication gap between operating surgeons, pathologists, and auditors of surgeons' operation notes. METHODS: We conducted a prospective single cohort study of lung cancer resections performed with a lymph node collection kit from November 2010 to January 2013. We used the kappa statistic to compare surgeon claims on a checkli

Improving the psychometric utility of the hypomania checklist (HCL-32): a Rasch analysis approach.

BACKGROUND: The HCL-32 is a widely-used screening questionnaire for hypomania. We aimed to use a Rasch analysis approach to (i) evaluate the measurement properties, principally unidimensionality, of the HCL-32, and (ii) generate a score table to allow researchers to convert raw HCL-32 scores into an interval-level measurement which will be more appropriate for statistical analyses. METHODS: Subjects were part of the Bipolar Disorder Research Network (BDRN) study with DSM-IV bipolar disorder (n=389). Multidimensionality was assessed using the Rasch fit statistics and principle components analy

The Lifestyle Behaviour Checklist: a measure of weight-related problem behaviour in obese children.

OBJECTIVE: Parents are often targeted for childhood obesity interventions and parent training is regarded as an integral component of family-based treatments for obesity. However, few studies have examined what challenges parents of obese children face managing their children's behaviour, and how these challenges might be addressed in treatment. To address this gap in knowledge, we describe the development and evaluation of a new measure, the Lifestyle Behaviour Checklist (LBC). METHODS: The LBC lists 26 concerns parents might have about children's eating behaviour, activity, and other weight

The College of Optometrists in Vision Development checklist related to vision function: expert opinions.

BACKGROUND: The College of Optometrists in Vision Development (COVD) Quality of Life (QOL) checklist has been reported to have good test-retest reliability. Symptom scores measured by this instrument have demonstrated validity by showing a significantly improved score with optometric vision therapy. The COVD-QOL scores inversely correlate with academic achievement on standardized tests, and the instrument has been shown to differentiate between attention deficit disorder/attention deficit hyperactivity disorder children. The individual items on the COVD-QOL have not, however, been studied as t

Validation of the multiple language versions of the Hopkins Symptom Checklist-37 for refugee adolescents.

The objective of this study is to provide preliminary psychometric properties of the Hopkins Symptom Checklist-37 (HSCL-37A) for refugee adolescents. The HSCL-37A is a modification of the well-known HSCL-25 and assesses symptoms of internalizing and externalizing problems that have been associated with reactions to trauma. Four independent heterogeneous samples (N=3890) of unaccompanied refugee minors, immigrants, and native Dutch and Belgian adolescents were assessed at school. The confirmative factor analyses, per language version, support the two-factor structure of internalizing and extern
