BACKGROUND: Lumbar revision surgery can be performed by simple lumbar nerve decompression or lumbar interbody fusion, including percutaneous endoscopic lumbar discectomy, transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TLIF), etc. However, lumbar revision surgery is very difficult in surgical operation. We sought to explore the technique safety and efficacy of microscope-assisted minimally invasive transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (MI-TLIF) in lumbar revision surgery.
METHODS: Cases of postoperative recurrence following lumbar spine surgery (n = 63) treated from December 2016 to July 2021 were

BACKGROUND: Transforaminal endoscopic lumbar discectomy (TELD), a minimally invasive spinal technique, has advantages over open discectomy. Unilateral TELD for disc herniation causing bilateral symptoms is challenging. In this study, we describe a percutaneous endoscopic herniotomy technique by using a unilateral approach for lumbar disc herniation with bilateral obvious symptoms.
METHODS: From June 2014 to October 2015, 26 patients who had back as well as bilateral leg pain and/or weakness due to lumbar disc herniation were treated by TELD with a unilateral approach. Clinical outcomes were e

BACKGROUND CONTEXT: Percutaneous endoscopic discectomy is a minimally invasive procedure for the surgical treatment of lumbar disc herniation (LDH). It can be performed under local anesthesia and requires a skin incision of only 8 mm, with minimal disruption of the spinal structures including ligaments and muscles. However, performing percutaneous endoscopic discectomy with a transforaminal approach (TF-PED) for the lower lumbar spine is associated with some anatomical problems, such as interference from the iliac crest. This study sought to assess the operability of TF-PED for the lower lumba

Percutaneous endoscopic lumbar discectomy (PELD) is one of the surgical options for soft lumbar disk herniation, but the learning curve is perceived to be steep. The first 51 PELD cases performed for single-level intracanalicular lumbar disk herniation causing radiculopathy by the same surgeon were prospectively studied. The patients were divided into 3 groups of 17 patients, and the PELD learning curve was assessed by evaluating operating time, failure rate, complication rate, and 1-year reherniation rate. One-year clinical success rate was assessed by telephone interviews. The herniated disk

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of the present study was to discover new minimal invasive treatments of discogenic thoracic pain caused by protrusions or extrusions using the promising method of nonendoscopic Nd-YAG 1064 nm PLDN in the lumbar and cervical regions. Because early symptoms of chronic thoracic discogenic pain syndromes have not been characterized, interventional therapy is usually started late and involves a high complication rate.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A prospective controlled clinical study was undertaken by neurologists using Nd-YAG 1064 nm PLDN to treat 42 patients with thoracic disc

BACKGROUND: Foot drop that results from compression of the exiting L5 nerve as a result of far lateral disc herniation (FLDH) at L5-S1 poses a significant surgical challenge to the minimally-invasive spine surgeon given the narrow corridor for an extraforaminal approach because of the high iliac crest.
OBJECTIVES: Here we describe our experience with transforaminal endoscopic decompression for the treatment of foot drop secondary to FLDH at L5-S1.
STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective case review.
SETTING: This study took place in a single-center, academic hospital.
METHODS: A technique for the tran

BACKGROUND CONTEXT: L5-S1 transforaminal percutaneous endoscopic lumbar discectomy (PELD) is a demanding procedure because of structures such as iliac crest, L5 transverse process, hypertrophic L5-S1 facet joint, and sacral ala. There has been no definite preoperative evaluation method to evaluate the surgical validity of L5-S1 transforaminal PELD.
PURPOSE: The authors report a new preoperative trajectory evaluation method for L5-S1 transforaminal PELD using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) or computed tomography (CT) examinations.
STUDY DESIGN/SETTING: This is a technical report study.

BACKGROUND: Mycobacterium xenopi is a nontuberculous mycobacterium responsible for opportunistic and nosocomial infections, chiefly of the lung; few cases of bone and joint infection have been reported. From July 1989 through May 1993, an outbreak of 58 cases of nosocomial discitis due to M. xenopi infection following percutaneous nucleotomy occurred in a French hospital. Peripheral M. xenopi arthritis seems exceedingly rare. We conducted a study to assess the epidemiological and clinical patterns of M. xenopi arthritis.
METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed cases of M. xenopi arthritis report

Lumbar discectomy is one of the most frequent neurosurgical and orthopaedic procedures. In this study, a series of 43 consecutive patients operated with a minimally invasive technique referred to as "microscopically assisted percutaneous nucleotomy" (MAPN) is presented. After a follow-up period of 3 months, every patient was seen clinically, and after 12 months, telephone enquiries were performed by the first author. There were two recurrences. The results in improvement of sciatica and neurologic deficit corresponded to common microdiscectomy series with 80% excellent and good results. The MA
