BACKGROUND: Evidence for the management of periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) after total elbow arthroplasty is sparse, particularly in regard to débridement, antibiotics, and implant retention (DAIR). This study explored the outcomes of DAIR and analyzed risk factors for failure.
METHODS: A retrospective cohort study of patients 18 years or older diagnosed with elbow PJI and managed with DAIR between January 1, 2003, and December 31, 2018, at a single institution was performed. Twenty-six elbows met the inclusion criteria during the study period. All DAIR procedures included in this study

Total elbow allograft transplantation is an option for patients who have extensive joint defects secondary to tumor surgery, trauma, or failed total elbow arthroplasty. This salvage procedure provides patients with a useful, painless range of motion of the elbow. We report our experience with two complete elbow allograft reconstructions after tumor resection surgery with 5 and 6 years of follow-up.

Chronic elbow injuries often cause instability and stiffness. The Internal Joint Stabilizer of Elbow (IJS-E), introduced in 2014, stabilizes the elbow and enables early mobilization. In resource-limited settings where the IJS-E is unavailable, an adapted radius T-plate technique has been developed. This study evaluated patients (n=11) with chronic elbow injuries, showing significant improvements in Mayo Elbow Performance Scores (MEPS) and range of motion (ROM). Despite challenges like implant rigidity and precise screw placement, the T-plate effectively maintained stability and allowed early R

PURPOSE: Supracondylar humeral fractures are common in children and require early surgical intervention to prevent complications. Although percutaneous pinning is a standard treatment, the optimal pinning technique remains controversial. Therefore, this study aimed to compare the outcomes of lateral and through-the-elbow joint pinning (group J) and cross-pinning (group C) for paediatric supracondylar humeral fractures.
METHODS: This retrospective analysis included paediatric patients with supracondylar humeral fractures treated at two trauma centres. Group J underwent lateral and through-the-

Robot-assisted rehabilitation is becoming an important option in rehabilitation medicine. We utilized one such device, the elbow joint hybrid assistive limb (HAL), for a patient with Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS). The patient was a 64-year-old man, 16 months post-onset of GBS. Due to severe neuropathy, he was completely dependent on others and unable to eat independently. After approximately two weeks of intensive rehabilitation and self-training following his hospital discharge, he regained the ability to feed himself. This report highlights the effectiveness of HAL in the chronic phase of GB

PURPOSE: While conservative management is commonly promoted for simple elbow dislocations, the importance of primary surgical treatment in these injuries is still undetermined. The objective of this study was to report patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs), return to sports (RTS) and joint stability using ultrasound in patients following conservative or surgical treatment after simple elbow dislocation.
METHODS: Patients with a minimum follow-up of 24 months after conservative (CT) or surgical treatment (ST) following simple elbow dislocation were included in this retrospective study. To

Biophysical loading of the elbow and wrist is a potential reason for chronic lesions in gymnastics and present a real concern for coaches, scientist and clinicians. Previous research has identified injury risk factors during round-off (RO) skills in elite female gymnasts. The aim of this study was to investigate key elbow and wrist joint injury risk factors during different techniques of fundamental cartwheel (CW) and RO skills performed by young female artistic gymnasts. Seventeen active young female gymnasts performed 30 successful trials of both CW and RO from a hurdle step with three diffe

BACKGROUND: The distribution pattern of subchondral bone density is considered to highly reflect the stress distribution across a joint under long-term physiologic loading conditions. Therefore, the biomechanical characteristics over the elbow joint surface under long-term loading conditions of baseball pitching can be determined by a measurement of the distribution pattern.
HYPOTHESIS: Stress distribution over the elbow joint surface alters with long-term pitching activities.
STUDY DESIGN: Cross-sectional study; Level of evidence, 3.
METHODS: Computed tomography (CT) imaging data from the

BACKGROUND: Repetitive pitching causes immediate changes in the medial elbow joint. However, the recovery process from these changes is not clear.
PURPOSE/HYPOTHESIS: The purpose of this study was to investigate the recovery of the medial elbow joint in the 24-hour period after pitching. The hypothesis was that while some recovery will occur at 24 hours after repetitive pitching, this would not be a complete return to baseline.
STUDY DESIGN: Controlled laboratory study.
METHODS: A total of 26 high school baseball pitchers participated (mean age, 16.0 ± 0.5 years). Participants threw 100 pit

INTRODUCTION: Primary total elbow replacement (TER) services in England are being restructured with the goal of centralising care to specialised centres. It is important to monitor the impact of this service redesign. This protocol outlines an intended analysis to provide detailed descriptions of the patients who are receiving primary TER, where and by whom TER is being performed, and what the current surgical practices for TER are in England before the reconfiguration.
METHODS: This analysis will use the National Joint Registry (NJR) elbow dataset and link it with NHS England Hospital Episod

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: The unifying articular theory suggests that intraneural ganglion cysts in the cubital tunnel arise from the elbow joint and are connected to the ulnar nerve through an articular branch. This study aimed to report our clinical experience with these cysts and our surgical findings and outcomes.
METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed 13 patients who underwent surgery for cubital tunnel syndrome caused by an intraneural ganglion cyst of the ulnar nerve. Clinical symptoms, physical examination findings, nerve conduction testing electromyography, plain radiography, and ultr

CASE: A 27-year-old man sustained chemical burns affecting 54% of his body caused by steam and acetic acid at a dyeing factory. He developed restricted bilateral elbow and shoulder motion because of heterotopic ossification (HO) beginning 3 months after the incident. The skin healed within 1 year, but ankylosis developed because of progressing ossification. We performed HO surgical excision in 4 stages. Two years after the final surgery, the function of both upper extremities had recovered.
CONCLUSION: For HO caused by severe burns, improvement in upper extremity function can be achieved even

Ultrasound imaging (US) is increasingly being used in the diagnosis of entrapment neuropathies. The aim of the current study was to evaluate changes in stiffness (shear modulus), cross-sectional area (CSA), and trace length (TRACE) of the ulnar nerve in patients with cubital tunnel syndrome (CuTS), with shear wave elastography (SWE). A total of 31 patients with CuTS were included. CSA, shear modulus, and TRACE examinations were performed in the SWE mode in four positions of the elbow: full extension, 45° flexion, 90° flexion, and maximum flexion. There were significant side-to-side differences

BACKGROUND: To improve the clinical results of lateral ulnar collateral ligament (LUCL) reconstruction of the elbow joint, better understanding of the anatomy of the aponeuroses and joint capsule could be relevant. This study considers the previously described anatomy of the LUCL in relation to the related aponeuroses and joint capsule rather than as a discrete ligament. We hypothesized that the deep aponeuroses of the superficial extensor muscles and supinator form a relevant portion of the joint capsule previously defined as the LUCL.
METHODS: Twenty-four elbows (12 right) from 21 embalmed

BACKGROUND: We sought to determine injury mechanisms and soft tissue injury patterns of dislocation caused by posteromedial rotatory instability (PMRI) and simple posteromedial (PM) dislocation of the elbow joint that appear similar on simple radiographs.
METHODS: In this retrospective case-series study, we reviewed 13 patients with PMRI dislocation and 10 patients with simple PM dislocation. Three-dimensional computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging were performed in both groups. The ulnar collateral ligament, lateral collateral ligament complex (LCLC), overlying extensor muscle, a
