INTRODUCTION: The World Health Organization has identified management of postoperative trichiasis (PTT) as one of the key remaining areas of focus needed to eliminate blinding trachoma as a public health problem. We developed the Bevel-Rotation Advancement Procedure (B-RAP) to treat individuals who need repeat trichiasis surgery.

In December 1998, a survey was carried out on the quality of trichiasis surgery, based on a random sample of 750 people chosen from the surgical records of 13 health centres of the provinces of Zagora and Errachidia (Kingdom of Morocco). We present the first case report of a comprehensive eye examination in a patient with Floating-Harbor syndrome. Ocular findings were limited to partially accommodative, acquired esotropia, and unusual eyelashes. A variety of other ocular features have been previously reported in the nonophthalmic medical literature and are herein reviewed.

A 56-year-old woman with primary open-angle glaucoma in an only eye presented with hypertrichosis after using Latanoprost to lower IOP. After trabeculectomy with adjunctive Mitomycin C, IOP was well controlled and antiglaucoma medications could be discontinued. At eight-month follow-up the abnormal eyelashes had disappeared.

The association of congenital ablepharon with the absence of eyelashes and eyebrows, a wide mouth (macrostomia), and auricular, nasal, genital, and other systemic anomalies has been termed the ablepharon macrostomia syndrome. The prostaglandin F2a (PGF2a) analogue bimatoprost 0.03% (Allergan, Inc, Irvine, California) has been employed for the treatment of hypotrichosis since it gained Food and Drug Administration approval as Latisse in 2008. In this report, the authors retrospectively review the cases of 7 patients who presented to their outpatient ophthalmology clinic with glaucoma. These patients had periorbital hollowing due to fat atrophy as a side effect of topical ophthalmic bimatoprost therapy. PURPOSE: To offer an alternative to frontalis sling techniques to achieve a more horizontal traction vector force with the frontalis muscle flap. The proposed technique avoids malpositions such as pulling the upper eyelid in an anterior plane during maximum opening and ptosis of the eyelashes.
METHODS: The technique, performed in 5 patients with complete unilateral ptosis and an absence of levator function, consisted of advancing a flap of frontalis muscle and creating a pulley with the aponeurosis of the levator muscle. Mean follow-up was 12 months.

Rothmund-Thomson syndrome (RTS) is a rare dermatosis with about 300 cases reported to date. The authors describe two siblings with RTS and inflammatory conjunctival disease featuring fornix shortening and symblepharon as well as palpebral disease with sparse eyelashes. These cases demonstrate RTS ocular surface findings different to those usually described.

We report eyelid margin changes in 3 patients after docetaxel treatment for breast cancer. These patients were referred to Cincinnati Eye Institute for eyelash abnormalities and/or epiphora and all had been treated with docetaxel in the near past. Bimatoprost is a prostamide analogue used for treatment of glaucoma in ophthalmology. Surprisingly, the side effects such as increased pigmentation of eyelids and hypertrichosis in patients being treated with prostaglandin analogues for glaucoma have opened new areas of application in various dermatological disorders such as alopecia mainly affecting eyelashes, eyebrows, and vitiligo.
