Early analgesic response to interventional pain procedures in hospitalized patients with cancer-related pain: clinical predictors and exploratory survival analysis.

PURPOSE: Interventional pain procedures (IPPs) are increasingly considered earlier for cancer-related pain, yet the clinical predictors and prognostic relevance of early analgesic response to IPP remain unclear. We aimed to identify predictors of early response and evaluate its implication for 1-year survival outcomes. METHODS: This retrospective cohort study included 349 hospitalized cancer patients undergoing their first inpatient IPP. Early analgesic response was defined by changes in daily mean NRS scores and morphine equivalent daily dose (MEDD) over a 48-h peri-procedural period. Based

The Relation Between CHA2DS2-VASc Score, Initial TIMI Flow Grades and In-Hospital Mortality in Patients Presenting with Acute Myocardial Infarction.

The CHA2DS2-VASc score includes classical risk factors (e.g., Congestive heart failure/Left ventricle dysfunction, Hypertension, Age, Diabetes mellitus, Stroke/Transient ischemic attack/Thromboembolism, Vascular disease and Sex) for coronary artery disease. We investigated the association between initial thrombolysis in myocardial infarction (TIMI) flow of the culprit artery and CHA2DS2-VASc score and in-hospital clinical outcomes in patients presenting with acute myocardial infarction (AMI). Initial and postprocedural TIMI flow grades were recorded in patients hospitalized with first diagnosi

Hypercoagulable Rotational Thromboelastometry During Hospital Stay Is Associated with Post-Discharge DLco Impairment in Patients with COVID-19-Related Pneumonia.

Hypercoagulation is central to the pathogenesis of acute and post-acute COVID-19. This prospective observational study explored whether rotational thromboelastometry (ROTEM), a method that unveils coagulation status, predicts outcomes of hospitalized patients with COVID-19 pneumonia. We investigated 62 patients using ROTEM that was conducted at enrollment, clinical deterioration, discharge and follow-up visits 1 and 3 months post-discharge. A hypercoagulable ROTEM was more common at clinical deterioration than at enrollment and the levels of hypercoagulable ROTEM indices correlated with the cl

Drug-related problems and associated factors among patients with kidney dysfunction at a tertiary hospital in southwestern Uganda: a prospective observational study.

BACKGROUND: Kidney dysfunction is a common, progressive condition that is increasingly becoming a global public health issue. Because the kidneys are the major route for drug excretion, impaired renal function can change the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of drugs that are renally excreted. Additionally, patients with kidney dysfunction often have co-morbidities and the associated use of multiple medications which increases the risk of drug-related problem (DRP) occurrence. This study aimed to determine the prevalence, types, and factors associated with DRPs in patients with kidney dysf

Hospital performance comparison of inpatient fall rates; the impact of risk adjusting for patient-related factors: a multicentre cross-sectional survey.

BACKGROUND: Comparing inpatient fall rates can serve as a benchmark for quality improvement. To improve the comparability of performance between hospitals, adjustments for patient-related fall risk factors that are not modifiable by care are recommended. Thereafter, the remaining variability in risk-adjusted fall rates can be attributed to differences in quality of care provided by a hospital. Research on risk-adjusted fall rates and their impact on hospital comparisons is currently sparse. Therefore, the aims of this study were to develop an inpatient fall risk adjustment model based on patie
