Unraveling the core symptoms across distinct trajectories of problematic Internet use among 27,577 adolescents: Cross-lagged panel network analyses.

Problematic Internet Use (PIU) often begins in adolescence and develops along diverse trajectories. Understanding the interaction between PIU symptoms and identifying the core PIU symptoms that drive distinct trajectories among adolescents are crucial. We employed cross-lagged panel network analyses to examine temporal relationships of PIU symptoms among Chinese adolescents across four developmental trajectories over two time points. A total of 27,577 adolescents (Mean age = 13.8, SD = 1.5) participated in this study. Demographic variables and PIU symptoms were collected from December 17 to 26

Patterns of computer and Internet use and its association with HIV knowledge in selected countries in sub-Saharan Africa.

BACKGROUND: Healthcare systems in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) are fraught with numerous governance and infrastructural issues including lack of access to quality care and health worker shortage. Policy makers are becoming increasingly interested in adopting novel technologies such as web-based interventions within the scope of e-Health to bridge the gaps in care delivery in a cost-effective and sustainable manner. Successful implementation of these policies is reliant on evidences regarding people's access to these technologies, which are scarce for countries in SSA. OBJECTIVES: To 1) investigat

Detecting internet activity for erectile dysfunction using search engine query data in the Republic of Ireland.

UNLABELLED: What's known on the subject? and What does the study add? Despite the increasing prevalence of erectile dysfunction (ED), there is reluctance among symptomatic patients to present to healthcare providers for appropriate advice and treatment. A number of Internet campaigns have been launched by the Irish healthcare media since 2007 aiming to provide easily accessible advice on ED. Novel online technologies appear to provide a useful tool for educating the general public on the symptoms of ED because there has been a significant increase in overall Internet search activity for this t

Using the Internet for partner notification of sexually transmitted diseases--Los Angeles County, California, 2003.

An estimated one third of Internet visits by persons aged > or =18 years are to sexually oriented websites, chat rooms, and news groups that enable users to view sexual images or participate in online discussions of a sexual nature. Although so-called "virtual sex" carries no risk for transmission of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), including human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), use of the Internet to find partners for actual sexual activity does carry such risk. During 2001-2003, of 759 men who have sex with men (MSM) and who had early syphilis, 172 (23%) reported using the Internet to me

Associations of 24-hour movement behavior composition with depressive symptoms and problematic internet use in Chinese adolescents: A cohort study.

OBJECTIVES: Although 24-hour movement behaviors (24-HMB), including sleep, moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA), and screen time, are associated with adolescent mental health, their compositional nature remains insufficiently examined. We investigated the associations of 24-HMB composition with depressive symptoms, problematic internet use (PIU), and their co-occurrence at one-year follow-up. METHODS: In this prospective cohort study, 12,316 adolescents from the Guangzhou Childhood Adolescent Cohort (2019-2025) were included. Baseline sleep duration, screen time, depressive symptoms,

Cumulative family risk and problematic internet use among adolescents: The mediating roles of basic psychological need satisfaction and maladaptive cognition.

OBJECTIVE: Family risk factors frequently cluster together and play important roles in adolescent problematic internet use (PIU). However, the longitudinal association between cumulative family risk and PIU among adolescents and its potential mediation mechanisms are largely unexplored. Grounded in motivational theories, this study aims to examine the longitudinal association between cumulative family risk and adolescent PIU 2 years later and to determine whether this association is mediated by internal need (i.e., basic psychological need satisfaction) and external incentive (i.e., maladaptiv
