BACKGROUND: Non-tuberculous mycobacterial lymphadenitis has been recognized since medieval times by an array of names. The condition is familiar to paediatricians and paediatric surgeons but it often is not recognized in its early stages. A paediatric surgeon's experience of the condition in Newcastle over 30 years is reviewed.

BACKGROUND: A 36-year-old female with a history of congenital hydrocephalus, treated with ventriculoperitoneal (VP) shunt placement at 3 months of age and a shunt revision at 9 years of age, presented with erythema, induration, and drainage of an abdominal incision through which the distal catheter of her VP shunt had been implanted many years prior. Non-tuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) are one of major public health concern. The current study aimed to find the prevalence trends of NTM in Guangzhou, China from January 2018 to December 2023. A total of 26,716 positive mycobacterial cultures were collected. Thirty-six specimens with incomplete personal information were excluded. We report the results of a retrospective inquiry concerning atypical cutaneous mycobacterioses in France over the last 5 years. Ninety-two cases were observed, contracted from aquariums (50 p. 100), in swimming pools (4.4 p. 100) and as a result of mesotherapy (15.2 p. 100); 66.3 p. 100 of the patients had no other pathology; 17.4 p. 100 were immunodepressed.
