Trichoblastic carcinoma is a rare neoplasm thought to arise from malignant degeneration of benign follicular tumors. Its clinical features, optimal treatment, and outcomes remain largely unknown. We performed a comprehensive review of the existing trichoblastic carcinoma literature. PubMed and Google Scholar were searched for keywords related to trichoblastic carcinoma, and additional articles were found in reference lists. Cases with a histopathologic diagnosis of trichoblastic carcinoma were summarized. A total of 93 cases have been described, all in case reports or case series. The average

BACKGROUND: Squamous odontogenic tumor (SOT) is a rare benign odontogenic epithelial neoplasm. A slow-growing painless expansive swelling is the common presenting symptom. Histopathologically, SOT can be easily misdiagnosed as an acanthomatous ameloblastoma. Although Notch receptors and ligands have been shown to play a role in cell fate decisions in ameloblastomas, the role of these cell signaling molecules in SOT is unknown.
CASE REPORT: This paper describes a case of SOT affecting the anterior mandible of a 10-year-old Indian female. The patient was treated by local surgical excision and t

Malignant phyllodes tumor (MPT) is a rare breast neoplasm with high recurrence rates and potential for heterologous sarcomatous differentiation. Malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor (MPNST)-like differentiation in MPT is exceptionally rare and presents considerable diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. We report a case of a 24-year-old female with recurrent MPT exhibiting MPNST-like differentiation and integrated immunophenotypic and genomic characterization. The patient initially presented in November 2023 with a 3.8 cm right breast MPT treated by wide local excision. Five months later, u

Nineteen cases of a distinctive variant of paraganglioma characterized by extensive collagen deposition resulting in a pattern of growth that resembled an invasive malignant neoplasm are described. The patients were 3 men and 16 women, 32 to 69 years of age (mean, 50.5 years). The tumors were located in the carotid body region, parapharyngeal region, and mediastinum. Tumor size ranged from 2 to 6 cm in greatest diameter. Grossly, the tumors were described as rubbery to firm, tan-red, and with extensive areas of sclerosis. Histologic examination showed nests and cords of tumor cells separated b

Hemosiderotic fibrohistiocytic lipomatous tumors are rare neoplasms that were first described in 2000. Initially considered a benign lipotamous lesion of the soft tissues, nowadays they are considered to be a locally aggressive tumor. They occur mainly in the foot and ankle of women in their fifth and sixth decades, although they may be found in any place in the lower limbs and, more rarely, in other parts of the body. Histologically, hemosiderotic fibrohistiocytic lipomatous tumors consist of a mixture of mature adipose tissue, fusiform cell fascicles, macrophages that often contain cytoplasm

BACKGROUND: Parotid oncocytoma is a rare benign neoplasm for which surgical excision remains the standard treatment. Although the recurrence rate is generally low, it increases significantly in cases with multifocal lesions or incomplete surgical excision. In such scenarios, postoperative radiotherapy (RT) has been shown to improve local control, reduce recurrence rates, and minimize the need for reoperation. This report presents a representative case of parotid oncocytoma, with a focused discussion on therapeutic decision-making from a radiation oncologist's perspective.

INTRODUCTION: Adenoid cystic carcinoma is the most frequent malignant tumor of the submandibular gland and the minor salivary glands. It is a malignant neoplasm that, despite its slow growth, shows an unfavorable prognosis.
OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to perform a systematic review of the literature on Adenoid cystic carcinoma in the head and neck region and its clinicopathological characteristics, with emphasis on the perineural invasion capacity of the tumor.
METHODS: A systematic search of articles published between January 2000 and January 2014 was performed in the PubMed/MEDLI

INTRODUCTION: Up to 15% of muscle-invasive bladder cancers (MIBC) arise from the progression of a non-muscle-invasive neoplasm. Despite sharing similar treatment strategies, the literature reports differences in survival rates between these two groups. This study aims to identify differences in recurrence and survival that may influence individualized treatment approaches.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Prospective study of cystectomies performed for MIBC between 2011 and 2023, collecting demographic, diagnostic, treatment, and recurrence data (local, urothelial, or distant). A comparative and multiva

INTRODUCTION: Desmoid-type fibromatosis, also known as desmoid tumors, are rare fibroblastic neoplasms that account for less than 3% of all soft tissue tumors. Although they are benign neoplasms without metastatic potential, they are known to be locally aggressive and may invade adjacent structures leading to fatal complications.
CASE PRESENTATION: We describe the case of a 26-year-old woman who presenting with the clinical picture of acute peritonitis. Emergency surgery was performed and a large poorly-circumscribed heterogeneous tumor was found, occupying the jejunum mesentery and infiltrat

Intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms (IPMNs) typically originate within the pancreatic ductal system. However, the occurrence of an IPMN-like mucinous neoplasm outside the pancreas, presenting as an isolated duodenal polyp, is extremely rare. An asymptomatic 64-year-old woman underwent routine screening endoscopy, which revealed a 25-mm Yamada type IV pedunculated polypoid lesion in the second portion of the duodenum. En bloc endoscopic mucosal resection was performed without procedural complications, although histological evaluation revealed focal involvement of the deep resection margin.

The objectives of this paper are to report a case of apocrine carcinoma and the discussion of aspects related to its diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis. Carcinomas with apocrine differentiation not related to extramammary Paget's disease, ductal breast carcinoma, Moll's glands adenocarcinoma and ceruminous glands carcinoma are very uncommon tumors. We report a case of a 51-year-old black woman who developed apocrine carcinoma lesions in the head and neck region. Two lesions involved her left parotid gland (first tumor and local recurrence), and other involved her submandibular skin. The micro

BACKGROUND: Ameloblastic carcinoma is a rare, aggressive odontogenic neoplasm of the jaws in which the epithelial cells exhibit cytologic features of recognizable ameloblastoma and malignancy. Cases with metastasis have been infrequently reported.
METHODS: A case of a 64-year-old white woman with mandibular ameloblastic carcinoma with documented distant metastasis is presented. The patient's presenting symptoms included facial asymmetry of the right jaw over 2 months and the development of moderate trismus. Clinical manifestations, pathology, treatment, and biologic behavior are discussed. Th

The authors report a case of laryngeal chemodectoma in a 53-year-old man who died from general dissemination and lymphatic and subcutaneous metastases. This functional neoplasm secreted calcitonin revealed by fluorescence and biochemical tests and perhaps adrenaline-like substances. Its cells looked like the light chief cells of the human carotid body; they contained secretory granules and lysosomal formations. Thirty similar cases had been previously reported. The superior laryngeal glomi and more occasionally the inferior ones were the seat of these tumours which occurred with an equal frequ

The authors illustrate two neoplasms arising in the pretibial soft tissue that are histologically identical to adamantinoma of the long bones. The tumors developed in a 24-year-old woman and a 31-year-old man. Both were treated by local excision. Histologically, one tumor had a tubular pattern and one was composed of spindled, basaloid cells. One patient is free of disease after 14 months and one developed two recurrences after three and eight years, with the second recurrence invading the underlying tibia. Soft tissue adamantinoma may be confused with a wide range of neoplasms, including syno

Primary mucinous carcinoma of the skin is a rare malignant neoplasm, often with periocular involvement, believed to originate from eccrine sweat glands. It is slow growing and locally destructive, at times forming tumour satellites. We present a case with six local recurrences treated with surgical resections over a period of 30 years. We have not been able to find longer follow-up in the literature, and believe this case may offer insight into the management of these uniquely indolent malignancies.

BACKGROUND: Radiation-induced morphea is a fibro-inflammatory remodelling process of the subcutaneous connective tissue caused by ionising radiation, most commonly in the context of breast cancer treatment. The underlying pathomechanisms and putative risk factors are unknown. Therefore, misdiagnosis and inappropriate treatment pose a significant problem in the care of those patients.
OBJECTIVES: The aim of the study was to provide an overview as well as guidance for the diagnosis and treatment of radiation-induced morphea based on current case reports and review articles.

Among all neoplasms affecting head and neck region, salivary gland neoplasms are rare. Pleomorphic adenomas are the most common benign salivary gland tumours making up to 50% of major and minor salivary gland tumours. Intraorally pleomorphic adenoma is mostly found on palate and lips and very rarely in retromolar area. Here we are reporting a rare case of pleomorphic adenoma in right lower retromolar area in a 31-year-old female, the lesion was excised in toto with safety margins under local anaesthesia and postoperative follow up after six months didn't showed any recurrence.

Angiomatoid fibrous histiocytoma is a rare mesenchymal neoplasm of uncertain cell lineage with indeterminate behavior, hallmarked by EWSR1 translocations. This tumor typically arises in the subcutaneous or deep soft tissues and is composed of bland to mildly atypical histiocytoid cells with frequent intralesional hemorrhagic pseudocystic spaces. It affects both children and adults, without a significant sex predilection. Histologically, the tumor may be mistaken for a lymph node given the apparent predilection for node-bearing sites as well as the brisk lymphoid cuff featuring germinal centers

BACKGROUND: A desmoid tumor is a rare neoplasm that is derived from soft tissues. Although it shows benign characteristics pathologically, local recurrence can occur.
CASE REPORT: We herein report the case of a patient with an intraabdominal desmoid tumor that developed 3 years after laparoscopic appendectomy for acute appendicitis. A 59-year-old male visited our emergency room with complaints of abdominal pain and fullness. Abdominal computed tomography revealed distention of the small intestine with a point of obstruction by an intraabdominal tumor-like region. Pathological findings showed

Adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) of the sublingual gland is an extremely rare neoplasm. The clinicopathological characteristics of ACC are slow-growing swelling with or without ulceration, perineural spread, local recurrence, and distant metastasis. This report describes a 58-year-old male who had a slowly growing swelling without ulceration on the right side of the mouth floor that had been present for 1 month. In a radiological examination, the mass showed multilocular cystic features and no bony or tongue muscle invasion. No enlarged cervical lymph nodes were detected. Excisional biopsy and h
