Endoscopic inspection of the residual cavity after liver hydatid disease surgery has the potential of determining the cause of delayed cavity obliteration by providing information about the inner surface condition. We therefore performed endoscopy whenever there was an unsatisfactory rate of reduction of the residual cavity size. Over the last 6 years, 72 patients have been operated upon for liver hydatid disease. Of these, 42 had wide-bore catheter drainage of the echinococcal cavity and 30 had primary surgical closure. BACKGROUND: Peritoneal metastasis (PM) is the second most common site of recurrence in colon cancer (CC) patients and accounts for approximately one-third of all recurrences. Patients with T4 or intraperitoneal perforated colon cancers have an increased risk of developing PM, and since manifest PM is difficult to treat, high-risk patients should be offered prophylactic treatment. Here, we propose a study of adjuvant oxaliplatin administered as pressurized intraperitoneal aerosol chemotherapy (PIPAC OX) in patients with high-risk colon cancer (T4, perforated tumors, ovarian metastasis).

Bezoars are concretions of stagnant swallowed material in digestive tract. The most frequent are trichobezoars made of hair and phytobezoars composed of undigestible fruits and vegetables fibers. We report a case of a 24-year-old female patient who presented in emergency with an acute peritonitis due to a gastric perforation on bezoars. Gastrotomy, extraction of bezoars, gastric stitching and peritoneal lavage were performed. Post operative period was uneventful. A new careful interrogation into the patient's previous habits found glue-eating custom during the four last years.

Because of multiple studies demonstrating barrier efficacy, adhesion prevention adjuvants have received widespread acceptance in appropriate surgical settings. Operations were performed on 327 patients for blunt abdominal trauma at the casualty ward of the Istanbul University Hospital, over the past three years. Isolated injuries to small intestines were recorded by laparotomy from 22 of these cases. Peritoneal lavage was applied to 18 patients. Amyand's hernia, the presence of the vermiform appendix within an inguinal hernia sac, is a rare clinical entity (0.2%-1.7% of inguinal hernias). Acute appendicitis within the sac is rarer still, occurring in only 0.1% of cases. We describe a male patient presenting with an incarcerated right inguinal hernia, who developed diffuse peritonitis after manual reduction. INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Gallbladder perforation is a rare but serious complication, usually following acute cholecystitis. Spontaneous perforation without prior biliary symptoms is extremely uncommon and often presents as acute peritonitis, especially in the elderly and/or immunocompromised patients. Distilled water is used worldwide to check on hemostasis at the end of pelvic oncological operations. Nevertheless, reports about this method are lacking. The aim of this study was to explain the method and to discuss possible side effects. After the addition of distilled water to the surgically exposed pelvis, rapid lysis of erythrocytes results in a transparent fluid in which a small source of bleeding is easily recognizable.
