The fluorescence spectrum of CdSe core-CdS/ZnS shell colloidal quantum dots (QDs) embedded in porous alumina membrane was studied. Small peaks, superimposed on the principal QD fluorescence spectrum, were observed. Finite-difference time-domain simulation indicates that the QD point radiation emitting from within the membrane is strongly modulated by the photonic band structure introduced by the membrane pores, leading to the observed fine spectral features. Moreover, the principal QD fluorescence peak red-shifted when the optical excitation power was increased, which is attributed to QD mater

Conventional Raman spectroscopy faces inherent limitations in detecting interlayer layer-breathing (LB) vibrations with inherently weak electron-phonon coupling or Raman inactivity in two-dimensional materials, hindering insights into interfacial coupling and stacking dynamics. Here, we demonstrate a universal plasmon-enhanced Raman spectroscopy strategy using gold or silver nanocavities to strongly enhance and detect LB modes in multilayer graphene, hBN, and their van der Waals heterostructures. Plasmonic nanocavities even modify the linear and circular polarization selection rules of the LB

Nano-optics aims to understand and control the propagation of light at the nanoscale through the excitation of surface polaritons: hybrid light-matter quasiparticles. Recently, twisted van der Waals materials have enabled unprecedented phonon polariton propagations, such as canalization. However, nano-optics still presents an important limitation: obtaining polariton propagations on demand. Here we combine deep neural networks with twisted polaritonic multilayers to enable on-demand design of phonon polariton propagation. We demonstrate canalization, bicanalization and tricanalization in twist

Highly confined phonon polaritons enable strong light-matter interactions that tailor incandescent heat sources for enhanced thermal emission in both the near- and far-field regimes. However, single polar dielectric materials are limited in both the emission spectral range and achievable mode confinement. In this study, we employ a bilayer structure comprising monolayer hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) integrated with silicon dioxide (SiO2) to exploit confined phonon polariton modes across a broadened energy spectrum. The distinct, nonoverlapping Reststrahlen bands of h-BN and SiO2 provide multi

Aluminum-hydrogen compounds have drawn considerable interest for applications in solid-state hydrogen storage. The structural, hydrogen storage, electronic, mechanical, phonon, and thermodynamic properties of XAl2H2 (X = Ca, Sr, Sc, Y) hydrides are investigated using density functional theory. These hydrides exhibit negative formation energies in the hexagonal phase, indicating their thermodynamic stability. The gravimetric hydrogen storage capacities of CaAl2H2, SrAl2H2, ScAl2H2, and YAl2H2 are calculated to be 1.41 wt%, 0.94 wt%, 1.34 wt%, and 0.93 wt%, respectively. Analysis of the electron

Two-dimensional lead iodide perovskites have attracted significant attention for their potential applications in optoelectronic and photonic devices due to their tunable excitonic properties. The choice of organic spacer cations significantly influences the light emission and exciton transport properties of these materials, which are vital for their device performance. In this Perspective, we discuss the impact of spacer cations on lattice dynamics and exciton-phonon coupling, focusing on three representative 2D lead iodide perovskites that exhibit distinct types of structural distortions. CuInTe2 (CIT) is one of the typical ternary chalcogenides known for its characteristic mixed polyanionic/polycationic site defects, making it a subject of continuous interest in the field of thermoelectrics. In this work, we propose a chemical composition modulation strategy for CIT by alloying GeTe and then introducing a copper deficiency (denoted by VCu). This strategy aims to unpin its Fermi level (Fr) and shift Fr into the valence band (VB) while simultaneously enabling coupling between the optical and acoustic phonon, thereby providing an extra phonon scattering path at low frequencies. CONTEXT: TODD-Graphene (TODD-G), a porous two-dimensional carbon allotrope composed of interconnected 3-8-10-12 carbon rings, has recently emerged as a promising candidate for nanoelectromechanical and adaptive nanodevice applications due to its metallic conductivity, mechanical compliance, and topologically engineered phonon structure. In this work, the vibrational dynamics of TODD-G nanosheets were systematically investigated to establish structure-property relationships governing resonant behavior under varying geometric, thermal, mechanical, and defect conditions. The development of two-dimensional (2D) superconductors is imperative for advancing micro non-dissipative electronic devices and integrated circuits. Here, we identify a novel 2D superconductor, LiB8 monolayer, with potential for fabrication through metal atom deposition onto χ3 borophene sheets, by the CALYPSO structural searches method and first-principles calculations. The calculated results demonstrate that the stable LiB8 monolayer exhibits Cmmm symmetry, displaying metallic behavior and intrinsic superconductivity. The superconducting transition temperature (Tc) of the LiB8 monolayer is

In-sensor computing and logics are the core for advancing machine vision technology, but face challenges in extending such capability into thermal form. Here, a bioinspired thermoreceptor array based on twisted graphene and titanium diselenide (TiSe2) heterostructures is presented. The electron-phonon interaction between graphene and few-layer TiSe2 exhibits strong twist-angle (θ) dependence, as evidenced by varied phonon-induced gap of graphene (114 ± 13 meV for θ = 1° and 67 ± 6 meV for θ = 7°), enabling sensitive thermal reception at temperature range from 20 to 350 K. Oxides are legendary for their complex energy landscapes, sensitivity to external stimuli, and property control through chemical substitution. Of these, the binary oxide HfO2 is one of the most fascinating because of the extraordinary number competing phases and opportunities to stabilize unique and useful properties. In this work, we combined synchrotron-based infrared absorbance and Raman scattering spectroscopies with diamond anvil cell techniques and first-principles calculations to explore the properties of polar orthorhombic hafnia (chemical formula HfO2:xY, where x = 12%) under pressure

We demonstrate a counterintuitive intermode interplay in the plasmonic system of gold nanorods, i.e., energy transfer (EnT) from the lower-energy longitudinal (L) mode to the higher-energy transverse (T) mode. The opening of this EnT(L→T) channel is enabled by an energy upconversion process with the L mode, in which the solvent environment plays a critical role. Switching from a strong thermal-conductivity solvent (i.e., water) to a much weaker one (i.e., chloroform) brings on prolongation of plasmonic hot-electron lifetime and enhancement of phonon emission, thereby increasing the probability

The mechanism of high superconducting transition temperatures (T_{c}) in bismuthates remains under debate despite more than 30 years of extensive research. Our angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy studies on Ba_{0.51}K_{0.49}BiO_{3} reveal an unexpectedly 34% larger bandwidth than in conventional density functional theory calculations. This can be reproduced by calculations that fully account for long-range Coulomb interactions-the first direct demonstration of bandwidth expansion due to the Fock exchange term, a long-accepted and yet uncorroborated fundamental effect in many body physics

This study presents a systematic first-principles investigation into the structural, electronic, and transport properties of MSe/MTe (M = Ga, In, and Tl) heterobilayer series, demonstrating how the deliberate breaking of structural symmetry via isoelectronic substitution simultaneously optimises electronic band topology and suppresses lattice thermal conductivity (κ1) for high-performance thermoelectrics. In all heterobilayers (HBLs), avoided crossings between acoustic and optical modes enhance scattering and reduce phonon velocity, thereby lowering κ1, a process intensified by overlapping fre

Electronic phases in quantum materials are often governed by nanoscale inhomogeneity, where local order develops within spatially confined regions, or puddles. A prominent example is an incommensurate charge-density-wave (I-CDW) comprising locally commensurate domains. In 2H-NbSe2, such an I-CDW state persists alongside lattice anharmonicity and superconductivity, raising fundamental questions about the dynamical stabilization of CDW order in puddles. Here, using Raman scattering, we reveal a strong Fano-coupling between interlayer shear phonons and the CDW amplitude mode. Our time-resolved re

2D copper-based semiconductors generally possess low lattice thermal conductivity due to their strong anharmonic scattering and quantum confinement effect, making them promising candidate materials in the field of high-performance thermoelectric devices. In this work, we proposed four 2D copper-based materials, namely CuSbS2, CuSbSe2, CuBiS2, and CuBiSe2. Based on the framework of density functional theory and Boltzmann transport equation, we revealed that the monolayers possess high stability and narrow band gaps of 0.57~1.10 eV. Moreover, the high carrier mobilities (102~103 cm2·V-1·s-1) of

In recent years, there has been a growing emphasis on the exploration of sustainable and eco-friendly materials well-suited for advanced applications in the realms of thermoelectrics and optoelectronics. Lead-free halide double perovskites have emerged as a compelling class of materials in this context. Nevertheless, despite their potential utility, thorough investigations into their thermal transport characteristics remain limited. In this systematic investigation, we employ density functional theory (DFT) and post-DFT techniques to elucidate the essential stability parameters, transport prop

Bis(thiobenzoyl) disulfide (BTDS) induces self-assembly of CsPbI3 nanocrystals. By triggering oleylamine deprotonation and desorption, BTDS drives one-dimensional regrowth, weakens quantum confinement, enhances exciton-phonon coupling, and accelerates first-order nonradiative recombination without introducing ultrafast trap-mediated channels.

Phonon-mediated superconductivity in boron-carbon clathrates has become an active area of research, but how mixed guest-metal occupancy affects stability and superconductivity is still unclear. Using high-throughput first-principles calculations, we study quaternary X0.5Y0.5B2C8 clathrates (X, Y = Li, Na, K, Rb, Cs, Mg, Ca, Sr, and Ba) at ambient pressure. We identify 15 dynamically stable phases, all involving combinations of two large-radius guest metals. Fourteen of these phases are predicted to be superconducting: compounds with an average formal oxidation state at the metal sites of +1.5
