Artificial intelligence in medical education: Performance of ChatGPT versus medical students on medical examination.

Attention toward Chat Generative Pre-trained Transformer (ChatGPT) has greatly increased, including in the medical field, but concerns about its problem-solving ability, accuracy, reliability, and limitations in medical problems always coexist. This study aimed to evaluate ChatGPT's performance in solving a medical school examination. We used 50-question examinations from the preventive medicine and psychiatry fields applied to 41 fourth-year medical students. Forty-nine questions were separately entered (one was excluded for being image-based) into the text box of ChatGPT models 3.5 and 4.0 w

The interRAI Suite of Mental Health Assessment Instruments: An Integrated System for the Continuum of Care.

The lives of persons living with mental illness are affected by psychological, biological, social, economic, and environmental factors over the life course. It is therefore unlikely that simple preventive strategies, clinical treatments, therapeutic interventions, or policy options will succeed as singular solutions for the challenges of mental illness. Persons living with mental illness receive services and supports in multiple settings across the health care continuum that are often fragmented, uncoordinated, and inadequately responsive. Appropriate assessment is an important tool that healt

[Pharmacogenetic-based risk assessment of antipsychotic-induced extrapyramidal symptoms].

"Typical" antipsychotics remain the wide-prescribed drugs in modern psychiatry. But these drugs are associated with development of extrapyramidal symptoms (EPS). Preventive methods of EPS are actively developed and they concentrate on personalized approach. The method of taking into account genetic characteristics of patient for prescribing of treatment was proven as effective in cardiology, oncology, HIV-medicine. In this review the modern state of pharmacogenetic research of antipsychotic-induced EPS are considered. There are pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic factors which impact on advers

Rethinking psychiatry with OMICS science in the age of personalized P5 medicine: ready for psychiatome?

The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) is universally acknowledged as the prominent reference textbook for the diagnosis and assessment of psychiatric diseases. However, since the publication of its first version in 1952, controversies have been raised concerning its reliability and validity and the need for other novel clinical tools has emerged. Currently the DSM is in its fourth edition and a new fifth edition is expected for release in 2013, in an intense intellectual debate and in a call for new proposals. Since 1952, psychiatry has undergone many changes and is e

Donepezil-induced bradycardia in a schizophrenic patient with comorbid neurocognitive disorder: a case report and review of the literature.

BACKGROUND: Trials of cholinergic and glutamatergic agents have improved cognition and memory for the geriatric schizophrenic population. Donepezil is an acetylcholinesterase inhibitor that improves cognition by preventing postsynaptic degradation of hippocampal acetylcholine in patients with mild-to-moderate dementia. Donepezil has been attributed to some adverse effects, especially gastrointestinal symptoms. However, cardiovascular adverse effects are not common as there remains a dearth of literature regarding donepezil-induced bradycardia. CASE REPORT: Hence, we present the case of a 70-y

Improving Functioning, Quality of Life, and Well-being in Patients With Bipolar Disorder.

People with bipolar disorder frequently experience persistent residual symptoms, problems in psychosocial functioning, cognitive impairment, and poor quality of life. In the last decade, the treatment target in clinical and research settings has focused not only on clinical remission, but also on functional recovery and, more lately, in personal recovery, taking into account patients' well-being and quality of life. Hence, the trend in psychiatry and psychology is to treat bipolar disorder in an integrative and holistic manner. This literature review offers an overview regarding psychosocial f

Strategies to prevent the neuropsychiatric side-effects of corticosteroids: a case report and review of the literature.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: The use of corticosteroids is increasing, and while the physical complications of their use are well known, the neuropsychiatric consequences are not. This review focuses on preventing these neuropsychiatric complications. Although there are limited data on this subject, it is a problem that clinicians face on a regular basis. RECENT FINDINGS: The incidence of neuropsychiatric complications rises rapidly once the daily dose of prednisone is greater than 40 mg. Other risk factors for neuropsychiatric symptoms are damaged blood-brain barrier and hypoalbuminemia. All patients

Roles of Psychiatry, Dietary, and Oncology Services in Occupational Medicine: A Comprehensive Review.

Occupational medicine manages the interface between health and work. Many employees live with mental illness, cancer, or diet-related diseases in safety-critical roles. These burdens change attention, stamina, risk, and retention. Psychiatry stabilizes mood, sleep, cognition, and substance use. Dietetic services improve energy balance, hydration, and micronutrients. Oncology aligns staging, treatment, and survivorship with duty risk. Services are often siloed, delaying care and widening inequity. Teams need clear roles, shared tools, and models that fit shifts, heat, chemicals, and job design.

Preventive Effects of Ramelteon, Suvorexant, and Lemborexant on Delirium in Hospitalized Patients With Physical Disease: A Retrospective Cohort Study.

BACKGROUND: New sleep-inducing drugs (eg, ramelteon, suvorexant, and lemborexant) have been shown to prevent delirium in high-risk groups. However, no single study has simultaneously evaluated the delirium-preventing effects of all novel sleep-inducing drugs in hospitalized patients. Therefore, this study aimed to clarify the relationship between sleep-inducing drugs and delirium prevention in patients hospitalized in general medical-surgical settings for nonpsychiatric conditions who underwent liaison interventions for insomnia. METHODS: This retrospective cohort study included patients trea
