The diagnostic value of dark-gray discoloration of the crown of primary incisors following traumatic injury as a predictor of pulp vitality is controversial. This retrospective study attempted to examine the condition of the pulp of primary incisors with dark-gray discoloration following traumatic injuries. Forty-eight gray caries-free, traumatized primary incisors were examined clinically and radiographically prior to treatment. All teeth included in the study were free of any clinical and/or radiographic signs of pulp necrosis. Crown discoloration was the only clinical or radiographic sign o

Early childhood caries can cause extensive coronal destruction in preschool children, often requiring complex rehabilitation at an age when cooperation is limited. This case report describes a behavior-adapted digital workflow used to complete full-mouth rehabilitation in a four-year-old boy with severe early childhood caries and very limited cooperation. Clinical and radiographic assessment showed advanced multi-tooth carious involvement, with marked destruction of the maxillary anterior segment. Differential diagnostic reasoning supported severe early childhood caries as the most consistent

OBJECTIVE: The demand for esthetics has increased in today's world and most parents prefer to preserve their children's primary anterior teeth until their natural exfoliation. However, an intracanal post is required to provide retention for reconstruction of severely damaged anterior teeth due to caries or trauma. Various materials and methods may be used for the fabrication of intracanal posts. This study assessed the fracture strength and fracture mode of primary canine teeth reconstructed with prefabricated and customized polyethylene and glass fiber posts.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: This in v

INTRODUCTION: The apex area in the primary teeth changes continuously due to the physiologic resorption, therefore; the apical foramen (AF) may not correspond to the anatomic apex (AA), which gives a big challenge to achieve successful endodontic treatment. The aim of this research was to study the difference distance (DD) between the position of the AA and AF, besides the difference acceptance (DA) in primary teeth, and the effect of the following variables: root canal curvature, resorption degree, and canal size on DD and DA separately.
METHODS: In this research, 180 root canals from 60 pri

BACKGROUND: Dental traumas are highly prevalent lesions in primary teeth, but crown-root fractures are seldom observed in primary molars. When trauma is sustained to the chin, the posterior primary teeth are at increased risk of trauma. The treatment of fractured teeth can be complicated, sometimes because of difficulties with the final restoration.
CASE REPORT: A 4-year-old girl was referred to a Specialty Dental clinic by a general dental practitioner with complaints of pain in her left mandibular posterior teeth region while biting. History revealed that she had fallen ten days before whil

Contemporary pulpotomy in primary molars reflects a shift from the use of devitalizing agents toward biologically driven vital pulp therapy. Advances in pulpal biology and biomaterials, particularly calcium silicate-based medicaments, support healing and preservation of radicular pulp vitality, leading to improved clinical outcomes. Current recommendations emphasize accurate diagnosis through integration of patient history, clinical findings, and radiographic evaluation, along with careful case selection. Achievement of a durable coronal seal remains essential and is most predictably attained

BACKGROUND: C1-esterase inhibitor deficiency results in episodes of non-allergic edema of parts of the body. Edema of the face may be triggered by dental therapy.
CASE REPORT: We report a case of C1-esterase inhibitor deficiency which was detected in a 42-year-old woman. The patient was completely unaware that she had this disorder or of any related family history, and the patient developed an intense facial angioedema after pulp extirpation of lower premolar tooth.
DISCUSSION: In this case, the diagnosis of angioedema due to C1-esterase inhibitor deficiency was established at a later stage.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the response of the human primary pulp to the carbon dioxide laser and formocresol for vital pulp therapy.
METHODS: Fifteen healthy children with intact, caries-and-restoration-free, contralateral primary cuspids with at least two-thirds of the roots remaining who were scheduled for orthodontic extraction were randomly assigned to pulpotomy treatment with a carbon dioxide laser or formocresol. The treated teeth were clinically and radiographically evaluated at 28 and 90 days post-treatment prior to extraction. The extracted teeth were evaluat

The authors have proved the desirability of vital subtotal extirpation of the pulp in experiments and clinically. Exposure to tricalcium phosphate transformed the terminal portion of the root pulp into osseocement biologic filling, obturated the apical opening and thus prevented the inflammation in the periodontium and protected it from pathologic exposures.

BACKGROUND: Dental anxiety is a significant barrier in pediatric dentistry, particularly in children with Frankel's negative behavior ratings. Sedation through the intranasal route offers a rapid and noninvasive alternative with high bioavailability. Among various sedatives, the relative efficacy and acceptance of midazolam and dexmedetomidine in pediatric dental care remain underexplored. Hence, the purpose of the study was to compare the sedative effect, acceptance, and side effects of intranasal dexmedetomidine and intranasal midazolam in anxious children undergoing invasive dental procedur

PURPOSE: To investigate how dental clinicians worldwide manage primary molars with irreversible pulpitis and pulp necrosis and to identify factors associated with variability in the use of coronal pulpotomy, non-vital pulp therapy (NVPT), and extraction.
METHODS: An online questionnaire was distributed via international and regional paediatric dentistry associations to dental clinicians who treat children. Standardised clinical scenarios were developed for irreversibly inflamed and necrotic primary molars. Participants selected their most likely treatment. Demographic data and reasons for not

INTRODUCTION: Endodontic treatment offers a high success rate; however, the search for therapeutic alternatives that promote regeneration of the dentin-pulp complex has elicited great interest.
AIM: The aim of this study was to evaluate, in an in vivo model, the potential for dentin-pulp regeneration by transplantation of stem cells from two sources: pulp of human deciduous teeth and periosteum.
MATERIALS AND METHOD: Eighteen mesiobuccal canals of maxillary first molars of immunosuppressed rats were distributed into three groups (n=6): group DT (deciduous teeth pulp), received stem cells fro

In regions where preventive dentistry is widespread, tooth loss due to root fracture occurs approximately 10 times more frequently than that due to caries and periodontal disease. Root fracture is most likely to occur in non-vital teeth, where the dental pulp has been removed, often through a procedure known as pulpectomy. However, super minimally invasive pulp (SMIP) therapy has recently been reported as a novel treatment approach for pulpitis of any degree. In this study, SMIP therapy was performed to preserve the vitality of teeth in two patients with severe pulpitis. Case one involved a 35

OBJECTIVE: Thermal insult is one of the factors contributing to pulpal damage during dental procedures, particularly in deep cavities with minimal dentine thickness. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of different light-cured pulp-capping materials on intrapulpal temperature (IPT) changes and thermal recovery time during sequential light curing in deep cavities.
METHODS: Deep Class 1 cavities were prepared for 56 extracted premolars, maintaining a dentine thickness of 0.5 mm. Teeth were divided into 4 groups (n=14) based on the pulp-capping materials: TheraCal LC, Biner LC, izy INO LC an

PURPOSE: Vital pulp treatment (VPT), including pulp capping and pulpotomy, is a conservative approach designed to maintain pulp vitality and health in reversible and partially irreversible pulpitis cases, particularly in children and adolescents with immature or mature permanent teeth. Despite extensive research, the comparation of various VPTs remains uncertain. This study evaluated the efficacy of different VPT techniques and capping materials, including calcium hydroxide (CH), mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA), and other pulp-protecting agents (PPA), and explored heterogeneity across trials,

OBJECTIVES: To determine the clinical performance of light-cured calcium silicate-based cement for direct or indirect pulp capping. The research question was as follows: in teeth with deep caries lesions, does the use of resin-modified calcium silicate-containing composites improve the radiological success and prevent irreversible pulpitis and pulpal necrosis compared with other pulp-capping agents?
MATERIALS AND METHODS: The following databases were screened until September 2021: PubMed, Web of Science, Scielo, Scopus, Embase, and The Cochrane Library. Randomized clinical trials reporting th
