The aim of this study was to identify the knowledge, barriers, and facilitators of breast self-examination (BSE) in Korean couples in the contemplation stage. The study design was based on assumptions from the Health Belief Model and Transtheoretical Model that contemplators perceiving benefits as greater than barriers are likely to move to the next stage. Participant couples, with wives having never practiced BSE but with an intention to do so, were drawn from churches. Qualitative research was conducted with focus group methodology including both husbands and wives in the groups. Data transc

BACKGROUND: Training on breast health is required to increase awareness of early detection of breast cancer, especially in countries with limited resources.
METHODS: Of the 784 invited women, 462 participated in the study (58.9%). The training included both theoretical and breast self-examination (BSE) training between preeducation and posteducation tests. Following the theoretical presentation, breast examination training was performed using a breast simulator. The competency of the participants on breast examination was assessed by an evaluation guide.
RESULTS: All breast cancer symptoms w

BACKGROUND: Breast cancer remains one of the most prevalent malignancies affecting women worldwide, and breast self-examination (BSE) is acknowledged as a sensitive method for its early detection. This study aimed to assess the level of awareness regarding both breast cancer and BSE among undergraduate students in Karachi, Pakistan.
METHODOLOGY: A cross-sectional survey was conducted at a public-sector university in Karachi. A total of 328 female students were selected using multistage stratified cluster sampling. The Chi-square test was employed to evaluate differences in awareness levels ac

It has been shown that childhood trauma is associated with an increased risk of prodromal psychotic symptoms. However, research on the prevalence of prodromal psychotic symptoms among self-taught examination students and the relationship with childhood trauma remains limited. The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of prodromal psychotic symptoms among self-taught examination students, explore the impact of childhood trauma on prodromal psychotic symptoms, and its underlying mechanisms. From January 5 to 18, 2024, a cross-sectional study was conducted on 670 self-taught examina

In Tanzania, breast cancer (BC) is the second most common cancer among women but is far less common in men. Late-stage diagnosis often occurring due to low levels of BC awareness and low compliance with practice of breast self-examination (BSE) for early BC detection. However, the factors related to BC awareness and performance of regular BSE in Tanzania are unclear. The present study aimed to examine the extent to which several dimensions of BC knowledge are associated with BSE. This was examined through a cross-sectional study of patients who received care at the cancer care centre in the Ki

A noninvasive quantitative assay that is capable of identifying prostate cancer biomarkers in untreated urine is an attractive diagnosis tool, but this method is subject to various obstacles. Difficulties presented by untreated urine include varying salt concentrations, and pH levels that may be different even though they are from the same patient. Untreated urine also presents interference from other biomolecules and possesses a fewer number of cancer biomarkers than can be found in serum. As a result, urine preconditioning processes and digital rectal examination (DRE) to increase biomarker

This study evaluates the effect of palpability upon breast self-examination (BSE) and adherence to annual mammogram after benign breast biopsy (BBB). Seven hundred and fifty-two women with palpable (WP, n = 359) or nonpalpable (WNP, n = 393) lesions were evaluated 2 years before and after BBB. BSE was considered adequate when it was performed at least once per month, and inadequate when it was performed with a frequency of less than once per month. Prebiopsy/postbiopsy adherence was characterized as inadequate when at least one session of mammographic examination was lost within the 2-prebiops

Regular screening is an important preventive method in reducing morbidity and mortality from cervical and breast cancer. In 1998, a cross-sectional study was conducted in Brisbane, Australia, among 145 Thai immigrant women, to explore cultural and social factors related to their use of Pap smear tests and breast self-examination (BSE). The study aimed at describing women's beliefs and perceptions about the body, breast and cervical cancer, and their perceptions of the causes of the diseases. It explored the women's perception of the severity and the effects of both cancers on aspects of patien

BACKGROUND: Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) cause 63% of deaths worldwide. The leading NCD risk factor is raised blood pressure, contributing to 13% of deaths. A large proportion of NCDs are preventable by modifying risk factor levels. Effective prevention programmes and health policy decisions need to be evidence based. Currently, self-reported information in general populations or data from patients receiving healthcare provides the best available information on the prevalence of obesity, hypertension, diabetes, etc. in most countries.
METHODS: In the European Health Examination Survey Pil

Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer among women worldwide. Early detection is central to improving disease outcomes. Three main screening methods - mammography, breast self-examination (BSE), and clinical breast examination (CBE) - have been developed and tested in Western nations. There is ongoing debate regarding the efficacy of BSE and CBE in terms of mortality reduction, and a number of international organizations no longer recommend them as screening methods. In technically less developed countries, however, where women are usually diagnosed with breast cancer at advanced stag

PURPOSE: African-American women with breast cancer face significant disparities, including high levels of pain. Depressive symptoms and self-efficacy for pain management impact how women with breast cancer manage pain, yet little is known about how these variables relate to pain specifically for African-American women with breast cancer.
METHODS: Baseline linear regression analyses were conducted using a sample of women (n = 98) with stage I-III breast cancer identifying as Black or African-American who were part of a larger intervention trial. Linear regressions explored the effect of depres

Postpartum pain during intercourse is a prevalent and distressing problem that has substantial consequences for affected couples. Partner perceptions-such as how partners perceive women's pain self-efficacy-contribute to an individual's pain experience. This study examined whether partners under- or over-estimate women's intercourse pain self-efficacy at 3-months postpartum and the implications of this bias for women's pain and couples' sexual functioning at 3- and 6-months postpartum. Women who reported pain during intercourse and their partners (N = 89 couples) completed online measures asse
