Interdisciplinary onsite team-based simulation training in the neonatal intensive care unit: a pilot report.

OBJECTIVE: Simulation training improves individual clinician confidence, performance and self-efficacy in resuscitation and procedural training experiences. The reality of resuscitation experiences in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) is that they are team-accomplished events. However, limited data exist on team-based simulation training (TBST) in the NICU. We report the experience of TBST over a 4-year period. STUDY DESIGN: This is a retrospective report of 65 TBST events in a 71-bed Level IV NICU at a regional subspecialty children's hospital. Participants were more than 500 NICU staf

A Simulation-Integrated Approach to Advancing Pediatric Emergency Preparedness in Morning Report Within Residency Training.

Background Pediatric emergency care presents unique challenges, and emergency medicine (EM) residents often have limited exposure to high-risk pediatric emergencies and resuscitation. Traditional didactic methods may not fully bridge the gap between knowledge and clinical practice. With recent proposed revisions by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and the American Board of Emergency Medicine's (ABEM) shift toward simulation-based assessment, practical pediatric training strategies have become increasingly essential. This study describes the design, implementatio

Improving realism in abdominal ultrasound simulation combining a segmentation-guided loss and polar coordinates training.

BACKGROUND: Ultrasound (US) simulation helps train physicians and medical students in image acquisition and interpretation, enabling safe practice of transducer manipulation and organ identification. Current simulators generate realistic images from reference scans. Although physics-based simulators provide real-time images, they lack sufficient realism, while recent deep learning-based models based on unpaired image-to-image translation improve realism but introduce anatomical inconsistencies. PURPOSE: We propose a novel framework to reduce hallucinations from generative adversarial networks

Low-Cost Simulation Kits for Surgical Training in Resource-Limited Settings: A Student-Led Model.

This paper provides a guideline for establishing medical skills training clinics aimed at better preparing future physicians with essential clinical and surgical skills, particularly in underdeveloped regions where high mortality rates are often linked to insufficient hands-on training. In some areas, physicians are forced to perform procedures on live patients without prior practical experience. This study examines simulation kits developed by a student-run surgical organization at a Caribbean medical school and discusses the outcomes of their clinical skills clinics. Results show that system

Simulation-based training reduces unnecessary ultrasound referrals for developmental dysplasia of the hip in newborns.

BACKGROUND: Developmental dysplasia of the hip is a common newborn condition characterized by malformation or instability of the hip joint. Identifying dysplasia of the hip early is imperative for avoiding long-term consequences. In the United States, dysplasia of the hip screening of newborns uses the Ortolani and Barlow maneuvers. However, evidence suggests that inadequate training in these techniques may lead to unnecessary imaging referrals for further assessment. We investigated the impact of a dysplasia of the hip simulator (MiHip) and its associated training program on ultrasound referr

[In situ simulation training of medical-surgical teams in the management of severe trauma patients].

In the management of severe trauma, the aim is to assess the patient's clinical stability as quickly as possible, enabling referral to imaging (whole-body CT scan, embolization if necessary) or the operating room, or even the decision to perform in situ surgery (resuscitation thoracotomy). To cope with these critical situations, team training is essential, with the aim of ensuring the reproducibility of the difficulties encountered. High-fidelity in situ simulation is the ideal tool for meeting this training challenge.
