Physical Exercise, Social Interaction, Access to Care, and Community Service: Mediators in the Relationship Between Socioeconomic Status and Health Among Older Patients With Diabetes.

The differences in socioeconomic status (SES) will cause a disparity in the health of the elderly. Taking diabetes as an example, previous studies have focused on risk factors of diabetes, while the relationship and mechanism between SES, multi-faceted factors, and the health of older patients with diabetes are not well-understood. This study aims to investigate the association between SES and health in older patients with diabetes and the interrelated mediators between them. Based on the data of the Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey (CLHLS) in 2018, structural equation modeling (S

Community mobilization and social marketing to promote weekly iron-folic acid supplementation in women of reproductive age in Vietnam: impact on anemia and iron status.

The community mobilization and social marketing program promoting a preventive approach of weekly iron-folic acid supplementation in women of reproductive age improved iron status of non-pregnant women in Vietnam. Three to six months of weekly pre-pregnancy supplementation and regular weekly intake of supplements during pregnancy allowed women to achieve good iron and hemoglobin status during the two first trimesters of pregnancy. In the third trimester, iron deficiency and anemia were notably present but low birth weight prevalence was low. This demonstrates the effectiveness and safety of th

Associations of employment status with social media addiction, anxiety, and parenting self-efficacy among mothers of infants: a cross-sectional study using machine learning.

BACKGROUND: Differences in social media addiction, anxiety, and parenting self-efficacy according to maternal employment status have important implications for maternal and child public health. However, evidence comparing these psychosocial outcomes between employed and non-employed mothers of infants remains limited, hindering the development of targeted maternal and child health interventions. This study compared social media addiction, anxiety, and parenting self-efficacy between employed and non-employed mothers and evaluated the performance of machine learning models for classifying emplo

Predictors of change in BMI over 10 years among midlife and older adults: Associations with gender, CVD risk status, depressive symptoms, and social support.

RATIONALE: Change in BMI is recognized as a key health indicator among midlife and older adults, though predictors of BMI change in this group have received little attention. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to examine relations between hypothesized predictors (i.e., gender, cardiovascular disease [CVD] risk status, depressive symptoms, social support) and BMI change over 10 years, among midlife and older adults. METHODS: Participants were adults ages 50-74 at baseline (N = 5,688, 64% women) who completed four assessments over 10 years. Gender, CVD risk status (i.e., diagnosis of hyperte

Exploring the Connection Between Functional Social Support, Marital Status, and Memory from the Perspective of Community-Dwelling Middle-Aged and Older Adults: A Qualitative Study.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: We undertook a qualitative descriptive study to explore participants' perceptions of whether marital status shapes how functional social support (FSS) relates to memory. METHODS: Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 18 community-dwelling middle-aged and older people representing various marital status categories. Each interview was audio-recorded, transcribed verbatim, and thematically analyzed. FINDINGS: Participants did not perceive marital status to shape the FSS-memory relationship. Three themes emerged to explain this view: learning to cope - particip

Mediating Effect of Social Support in the Relationship Between Childhood Abuse and Non-Suicidal Self-Injury Among Chinese Undergraduates: The Role of Only-Child Status.

Previous research has found a relationship between child abuse and non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI). However, few studies have examined the role of social support underlying this association. Moreover, the influence of the only child status on the mediating effect of social support has not been studied yet. The aim of this study was to investigate the mediating role of social support on the association between specific forms of child abuse and NSSI as well as the role of the only child status on the mediated pathways, among undergraduates. A total of 4799 participants were selected from two med

[Family status and social integration as predictors of mortality: a 5-year follow-up study of 55- to 74-year-old men and women in the Augsburg area].

The relation between marital status, social integration and the mortality from all causes was examined in a population based cohort study. The 5-year-cohort consisted of 1,030 men and 957 women, aged 55-74 years who participated in the second MONICA Survey Augsburg, F.R.G., 1989/90 (MONICA = Monitoring of trends and determinants of cardiovascular disease). They were followed for mortality until 1995. Altogether 120 men and 45 women had died. Social integration was measured by an index of social ties. The index of social ties examined in these analyses includes (a) presence of a spouse, (b) num

Socioeconomic Status and Depression Among Older Adults with Disabilities in Korea: The Mediating Role of Social Support and the Moderating Effects of Self-Esteem and Public Service Utilization.

Background/Objectives: Depression among older adults with disabilities represents a significant public health concern, with well-documented socioeconomic disparities. However, the mechanisms through which socioeconomic status (SES) is associated with depression in this population remain insufficiently specified. Guided by the Reserve Capacity Model (RCM), this study examines whether social support is statistically associated with the SES-depression relationship and whether this association varies according to psychosocial and structural resources. Methods: Data were drawn from the 18th wave (2
