From Horizontal Root Fracture to Implant Rehabilitation: A Case Report.

Traumatic crown-root fractures involving previously endodontically treated anterior teeth can present substantial restorative difficulties, particularly when the fracture line extends below the alveolar crest and compromises the remaining tooth structure. Preservation of the alveolar ridge following extraction is essential to facilitate future implant-supported rehabilitation and optimize aesthetic outcomes. This report describes the management of a 17-year-old male who presented with pain and mobility of the maxillary right central incisor following dental trauma. The tooth had undergone prio

Bridging the Break: Three Approaches to Root Fracture Management Using Bioactive Glass Material, Fiber Post, and Orthodontic Stabilization: A Case Series.

Dental trauma is a common clinical presentation and may involve injury to the crown, root, or supporting periodontal tissues. Horizontal root fractures affect dentin, cementum, and the pulp and present significant diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. Inappropriate or delayed management may lead to pulp necrosis, internal or external root resorption, displacement of the affected tooth, and loss of functional arch continuity. The management of horizontal radicular fractures is often complex and frequently requires a multidisciplinary approach involving endodontic, periodontal, prosthodontic, a

Pathologic root migration secondary to vertical root fracture and full-coverage crowns: a report of 3 cases.

Occasionally, tooth fractures may demonstrate exaggerated pathologic root migration (PRM), often resulting in tooth loss. The early propagation of the root fracture may not be readily identifiable through clinical inspection and conventional radiographic imaging. Ultimately, increased root separation, isolated deep periodontal probing depth, and characteristic radiolucent changes may facilitate the diagnosis. This article describes 3 patients with unusual presentations of PRM in endodontically treated teeth restored with full-coverage crowns. One case illustrates the use of cone beam computed

Comprehensive Management of Complicated Crown Fractures at the Cervical Third of Young Permanent Maxillary Incisors in a 9-year-old Boy: A Case Report.

AIM AND BACKGROUND: Children and young adults frequently sustain traumatic dental injuries (TDIs) to their permanent teeth. Injury to permanent incisors is most commonly caused by a collision with an object or person and by a self-fall. Complicated crown fractures account for 2-13% of all dental injuries, in which the maxillary central incisors are most commonly affected. Anterior tooth fracture not only causes functional and esthetic problems but also has a psychological impact on the child. CASE DESCRIPTION: A 9-year-old boy reported to the department complaining of broken teeth in the uppe

Management of Concomitant Intrusion and Complicated Crown-Root Fracture Injury of Maxillary Central Incisors in a Child.

Dental intrusions are a severe type of injury because they impact the neurovascular supply of the tooth as well as the supporting tissues which predispose the tooth to necrosis and root resorption. Management of these injuries requires repositioning of the teeth under close monitoring to avoid complications. The management becomes more comprehensive when an intrusion is combined with other injuries, such as a crown-root fracture. This case report represents a 4-year follow-up of a child who suffered from a concomitant injury of intrusion and complicated crown-root fracture to the maxillary imm

Changes in periodontal parameters of splinted versus non-splinted posterior teeth during ten years of supportive periodontal therapy - A retrospective evaluation.

OBJECTIVES: To compare periodontal parameters of splinted posterior teeth versus control teeth over ten years of supportive periodontal therapy (SPT) and to assess the survival rate of splints. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Retrospective data of 372 SPT-patients was screened for splints (composite/fiberglass-reinforced composite) in the posterior (molars/premolars) which were inserted at least ten years before due to increased tooth mobility. For each splinted tooth (test), a corresponding control tooth had to be present at the first SPT-session after splint insertion (T1). Data was assessed at T1 an

Dental and Dentoalveolar Injuries in the Pediatric Patient.

Dental and dentoalveolar injuries are common in the pediatric population. Management is predicated on the type of tooth injured (primary or permanent), extent of injury, the dental and behavioral age of the patient, and ability of the patient to tolerate treatment. Although many dental injuries occur in isolation, a systematic evaluation of the patient is mandatory to confirm the absence of basal bone fractures of the maxilla or mandible, traumatic brain injury, cervical spine injury, and/or facial soft tissue injury. Long-term follow-up is paramount to achieving a functional occlusion and opt

Dens evaginatus on a wisdom tooth: a diagnostic dilemma. Case report.

Pericoronitis is the most common odontogenic problem associated with the wisdom tooth in young men and women. Patients may present with problems associated with infection, swelling and pain. However, other associated pathology such as caries, periodontal disease and referred pain from the temporomandibular joint must be investigated when treating pain from the wisdom tooth. The authors wish to present a case in which the pain from a wisdom tooth was due to a fractured dens evaginatus. The importance of this dental anomaly should not be overlooked.

Finite element modeling of stress distribution in intervertebral spacers of different surface geometries.

Intervertebral disc spacers using bioactive ceramics have been used to treat degenerative spinal disease. Tooth-shaped spacers are commonly used to prevent migration, but there is a possibility of fracture when inserted or after insertion. Intervertebral disc spacers with either an isosceles triangle-shaped tooth (T1) or a right triangle-shaped tooth (T2) were used as a control group. The design factors for the experimental group were modified to prevent fractures induced by stress concentration, and the surfaces of the spacers were designed as either an isosceles triangle-shaped valley (V1) o

[Osteopetrosis. Classification, etiology, treatment options and implications for oral health].

Bone is continuously remodelled to maintain its strength and structural integrity. Remodelling is the result of an equilibrium between bone formation performed by osteoblasts and bone resorption performed by osteoclasts. In osteopetrosis this equilibrium is disturbed by a defect in the osteoclastogenesis or by disfunction of osteoclasts. Osteopetrosis is divided into four types: malignant infantile osteopetrosis, intermediate osteopetrosis, and two types of autosomal osteopetrosis. Malignant infantile osteopetrosis is usually diagnosed within the first year of birth by bone sclerosis and bone

Management of transverse root fractures in dental trauma.

The management of complex dental trauma can be modulated according to the emergencies that may arise over time. Clinical management of transverse root fractures may require different therapies based on situations, such as delay and error in the treatment of an avulsion trauma associated with apical third root fracture, patient's poor compliance, or external and internal root resorption. The primary aim of this article was to review studies regarding root fractures in the permanent dentition and root fracture management. The secondary aim was to present the inflammatory reaction and the complic
