Hysteroscopy using a CO2 tubal insufflator without the vacuum cannula.

The CO2 tubal insufflator delivers CO2 at 30 ml. per minute at pressure not exceeding 150 mm. of Hg. The vacuum cannula is not used. Any leakage of gas is controlled by applying a Vulsellum laterally. 78 Hysteroscopies were done using this technique. The procedure was unsatisfactory in 4 cases (5.1%). Out of 61 (78.2%) cases of infertility, there was some pathology in 35 (57.4%) cases. Out of 8 (10.2%) cases of menometrorrhagia, 6 (75%) had polypoidal endometrium, localised or diffuse and 1 (12.5%) had a fibroid. 1 (1.3%) case of postmenopausal bleeding had an endometrial polyp, which was remo

Uterine perforation following medical termination of pregnancy by vacuum aspiration.

Out of 9344 first trimester elective abortions performed by vacuum aspiration, 37 uterine perforation cases occurred. The suction cannula was responsible for more than 50% of perforations. All cases were multiparous. In 56.8%, the duration of gestation was 6 weeks or less. One third of the cases had a history of child birth within the previous 6 months. Fundal and anterior wall perforations were most common. Cases with a retroverted uterus had a higher incidence of perforation (59.4%) than those with an anteverted uterus (32.4%). Exact pelvic assessment and proper technique and case management

Early office termination of pregnancy by soft cannula vacuum aspiration.

This report documents the results of an ongoing study of the first 454 consecutive outpatient abortions by menstrual extraction technique performed by the author over a span of 8 years. All patients had positive preevacuation pregnancy tests and the procedure was employed up to 9+ weeks from the first day of the last menstrual period. All procedures were carried out in an outpatient setting under local anesthesia. Pathologic evaluation revealed decidua and villi in all but 10 cases. Major complications were encountered in 2.6% of cases and in only two was laparotomy necessitated--one for a rup

Vacuum Pressure Swing Adsorption for Hydrogen Purification with Zeolite 5A.

Pressure swing adsorption (PSA) is widely used for gas purification, and its performance depends strongly on the adsorbent properties and the cycle design. This study presents a protocol for hydrogen purification using a two-bed vacuum pressure swing adsorption (VPSA) system with zeolite 5A as the adsorbent. The procedure outlines how breakthrough experiments are conducted to support cycle design and explains the key considerations to ensure reliable operation under non‑isothermal and adiabatic conditions. Both breakthrough and VPSA experiments were performed to evaluate the separation perform

Predicting intrauterine vacuum-induced postpartum hemorrhage-control device treatment success.

OBJECTIVE: To identify predictors of postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) treatment success with the JADA intrauterine vacuum-induced hemorrhage-control device in post-market settings. METHODS: We performed a retrospective cohort study of PPH managed using the JADA system across 16 centers in the United States (NCT04995887). Treatment success was defined as no treatment escalation or PPH recurrence after device placement. Multivariable logistic regression was used to determine significant predictors of PPH treatment success with a stepwise model selection technique. Selection of the best performing mo

Management of rectal anastomotic leaks using modified endoluminal vacuum therapy.

BACKGROUND: Anastomotic leak (AL) remains one of the most feared complications following rectal surgery in stable patients with localized abscesses or contained leaks, nonoperative approaches may be considered, including broad-spectrum antibiotics, image-guided percutaneous drainage, transanal lavage and endoluminal vacuum therapy (EVT). METHOD: The procedure is performed under sedation with the patient in the left lateral Sims position. After assessing the defect location and size, a standard endoscope is introduced, and a guidewire is used to measure the cavity length, the distal end of the

Patterns of intra-discal vacuum phenomenon in adult degenerative scoliosis.

BACKGROUND: Degenerative scoliosis occurs with asymmetric disc and facet degeneration and vertebral wedging. Intra-discal vacuum phenomenon (IDVP) is associated with advanced disc and facet degeneration, but typically poorly visualised on radiograph or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and has not been reported in the context of degenerative scoliosis. This radiographic observational case-control study aims to further investigate degenerative scoliosis through evaluation and characterisation of IDVP. METHODS: All scoliosis subjects were isolated from an over-60s population sample of 2020 digi

Transcatheter vacuum-assisted aspiration of large intracardiac and intravascular masses.

Intravascular and intracardiac masses are usually represented by thrombi, tumours, and vegetations. They can affect both the right and left chambers of the heart and the venous and arterial circulation. Traditionally, their treatment is surgical or, in some circumstances, based on systemic anticoagulation/fibrinolysis. However, the complexity and frailty of patients who sometimes present with these conditions have pushed surgeons to find alternative minimally invasive effective treatments. While small masses can be removed with multiple devices, large masses are a more challenging problem. Vac

Transcatheter vacuum aspiration of valvular and lead related infective endocarditis.

BACKGROUND: Transcatheter aspiration is utilized for removal of thrombi and vegetations in inoperable patients and high-risk surgical candidates where medical therapy alone is unlikely to achieve desired outcome. A number of case reports and series have been published since the introduction of AngioVac system (AngioDynamics Inc., Latham, NY) in 2012 where this technology was used in the treatment of endocarditis. However, there is a lack of consolidated data reporting on patient selection, safety and outcomes. METHODS: PubMed and Google Scholar databases were queried for publications reportin

Emerging Roles of Penile Traction Therapy and Vacuum Erectile Devices.

INTRODUCTION: Penile traction therapy (PTT) and vacuum erection devices (VED) are nonsurgical conservative treatment options that have been used in the treatment of various urologic and sexual disorders such as Peyronie's Disease (PD) and Erectile Dysfunction (ED). Recently expanded uses for these therapies now include penile lengthening and with surgical interventions such as penile prosthesis surgery (PPS) and radical prostatectomy (RP). These devices can be used as both monotherapy or combination therapy. OBJECTIVES: To review the indications and clinical studies for PTT and VED. METHODS:

Can We Predict Feto-Maternal Adverse Outcomes of Vacuum Extraction?

Introduction Vacuum extraction (VE) is an important modality in modern obstetrics, yet sometimes results in maternal or neonatal adverse outcomes, which can cause a lifetime disability. We aimed to characterize potential risk factors for adverse outcomes that in retrospect would have led the physician to avoid the procedure. Materials and Methods Retrospective cohort of 3331 singleton pregnancies, ≥ 34 w delivered by VE. 263 deliveries (7.9%) incurred a VE-related feto-maternal adverse outcome, defined as one or more of the following: 3-4th-degree perineal laceration, subgaleal hematoma, intra

Improvement of a duodenal leak: Two-way vacuum-assisted closure.

A 55-year-old male patient developed a duodenal re-leak, which caused severe peritonitis, on the second postoperative day after surgery to treat an acutely perforated duodenal ulcer. Relaparotomy was performed 2 days after surgery for the re-leak after omentoplasty. The necrotic omentum was dissociated from the bulbus duodeni. Viable omentum for reinsertion of the omental patch was not found. The turned-outward duodenal mucosa was excised and the duodenal perforation was sutured. Two-way vacuum-assisted closure (VAC) was carried out by taking a liquid culture of the abdomen and washing the abd

Production and Characterization of Vacuum Deposited Organic Light Emitting Diodes.

A method for producing simple and efficient thermally-activated delayed fluorescence organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) based on guest-host or exciplex donor-acceptor emitters is presented. With a step-by-step procedure, readers will be able to repeat and produce OLED devices based on simple organic emitters. A patterning procedure allowing the creation of personalized indium tin oxide (ITO) shape is shown. This is followed by the evaporation of all layers, encapsulation and characterization of each individual device. The end goal is to present a procedure that will give the opportunity to

Vacuum extraction for non-rotational and rotational assisted vaginal birth.

Vacuum-assisted birth is a safe mode of birth in the presence of a skilled provider. Vacuum extraction can avoid prolonged second stage of labour, birth asphyxia in the presence of foetal distress or maternal pushing where contraindicated. Vacuum-assisted births - particularly those in midpelvic rotational births - have been increasingly traded for caesarean births, although the latter are generally associated with potentially a greater risk to women and (future) children. In this article, (contra)indications and the basics of vacuum technique are elaborated. A specific section is dedicated to
