Schizo-obsessive disorder in a South Asian context: A case report highlighting religious obsessions and psychosis.

Background The co-occurrence of schizophrenia and obsessive-compulsive disorder has attracted increasing clinical and research attention, yet it is not recognised as a distinct diagnostic entity in current psychiatric classification systems. This overlap is associated with greater symptom severity, increased suicide risk, and poorer treatment outcomes. Despite its clinical relevance, reports from South Asia remain scarce. This case contributes regional data and supports the conceptualisation of a schizo-obsessive subtype, challenging existing nosological boundaries. Case Presentation We report

[When virtual reality gives voice to silence: A case report of a patient with schizoaffective disorder and progressive bilateral deafness treated with Avatar therapy].

Auditory verbal hallucinations (AVH) are a common and often debilitating symptom of psychotic disorders. Despite pharmacological treatments, approximately 30% of patients continue to experience resistant AVH. Avatar therapy (AT), a virtual reality therapy, is an innovative approach aimed at changing the relationship between the patient and their voices. This case report describes the clinical course of a 72-year-old man with schizoaffective disorder and bilateral hearing loss with almost total deafness in the right ear, who reported AVH in both ears, but more intense on the right side. [Aggravation and contextual modulation of obsessive-compulsive symptoms during attempts at community reintegration in a man with a psychotic disorder and complex post-traumatic stress disorder: A case report].

This case report describes the clinical course of an adult man followed in forensic and community psychiatry, presenting a complex history of a psychotic disorder, developmental trauma, severe polysubstance use, and prolonged social marginalization. The originality of this case lies in the progressive emergence of atypical obsessive-compulsive phenomena during phases of structured psychosocial reintegration. These phenomena intensify in contexts of multiple relational and institutional demands and attenuate when the patient withdraws from certain commitments or imposed frameworks. Predominant

Clinically significant reduction of persistent late-onset auditory verbal hallucinations with adjunctive repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation: A case report.

Late-onset auditory verbal hallucinations (AVH) present diagnostic and therapeutic challenges, particularly when antipsychotic treatment is limited by poor tolerability. We report a case of a 75-year-old woman with de novo AVH temporally related to hemp oil use, in the general context of longstanding hearing impairment. Symptoms persisted and progressively worsened over 12 months despite discontinuation and antipsychotic treatment, resulting in marked distress and functional impairment. Adjunctive repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) targeting the left temporoparietal cortex was

[Supporting successful return to work after burnout: Perceptions and practices of managers].

Objective Managers play an important role in supporting employees returning to work after long-term sick leave. However, little research has focused on the support practices that these managers use when dealing with employees returning to work after burnout. This exploratory study has two objectives. First, it outlines the variety of return to work (RTW) support practices implemented by managers. Second, it describes these managers' perceptions of burnout. We argue that these perceptions of burnout influence the type of support that they provide. Method A series of semi-structured interviews w

[Exploring the efficacy of an online guided self-treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder in wildfire evacuees].

Objectives Disasters are increasing in frequency and intensity worldwide. Individuals exposed to them are at risk of developing post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), insomnia or depression. A stepped care approach, in which the first levels offer interventions that are less costly in terms of specialized resources, could help in meeting the mental health needs of disaster-affected populations. A randomized controlled trial involving evacuees of the 2016 Fort McMurray (Alberta, Canada) wildfires with symptoms of PTSD, depression and insomnia demonstrated the efficacy of the RESILIENT self-trea

[The impact of cannabis on psychiatric symptoms: A cross-sectional study on people with severe mental disorder].

Objective Cannabis is the most commonly used drug in the general population, but its prevalence of use remains higher among people suffering from severe mental disorders. Nevertheless, current cannabis research showed it to be deleterious on psychiatric symptoms, especially among patients with severe mental disorders. This present cross-sectional study aims to evaluate the impact of cannabis consumption on the psychiatric symptomatology of people with a serious mental disorder by controlling for the confounding variables of age, sex and concomitant alcohol or stimulant consumption. [New Educational Tool for 3D Simulation of Auditory Hallucinations, Co-Created with Voice Hearers: Pilot Study with Psychiatry Residents].

Objective Therapeutic relationship is a cornerstone in the treatment of schizophrenia. However, certain personal factors on the part of psychiatrists can hinder it, notably the lack of experience with auditory hallucinations. Such factors can lead to a decrease in empathy and, consequently, a negative alteration in the therapeutic relationship. Previous studies have shown that auditory hallucination simulators have a positive impact on mental health professionals. Yet, to our knowledge, no such test has been conducted on the psychiatry resident population. To address this gap, a research team

[Mentalization of conflicts in group therapy: Destructivity and survival in the benefit of cohesion].

The high prevalence of personality disorders, along with their substantial functional impact, are important societal issues, which must be addressed by mental health services. Many treatments have shown significant benefits and have contributed to alleviate the difficulties tied to these disorders. Mentalization-based therapy (MBT), which is constituted of a group therapy modality, is an evidence-based treatment of borderline personality disorder. The mentalization-based group therapy (MBT-G) modality raises many challenges for the psychotherapists. The effectiveness of the group intervention

[New challenge for services for people with a first episode of psychosis: To integrate interventions to prevent and reduce physical aggression].

Objective Mental health services for persons presenting a first episode of psychosis include specialized interventions that are effective in treating psychosis, but they do not include treatments that prevent aggressive behaviour (AB). This article presents the results of studies in an effort to incite these services to evaluate the risk of AB and to intervene rapidly to prevent these behaviours as well as treating the psychotic disorder. Method This article presents a narrative review of the scientific studies. We have reviewed publications in French and English reporting studies, reviews, an

[Perpetrators and victims of intimate partner violence: Personological profiles of people with borderline personality disorder].

Objective Personality disorders and intimate partner violence (IPV) are two problems recognized as major public health issues associated with serious individual and societal repercussions. Several studies have documented the links between borderline personality disorder (BPD) and IPV; however, we know very little about the specific pathological traits contributing to IPV. The study aims to document the phenomenon of IPV committed and suffered in persons with BPD and to draw profiles from the personality facets of the DSM-5 Alternative Model for Personality Disorders (AMPD). [The Project TANGO Training: Supporting intervention with clients with borderline personality disorder in youth protection and CLSCs].

Objectives The relational mode and engagement difficulties of individuals with borderline personality disorder (BPD) can elicit a variety of emotions in the clinician. Emotional activation and compassion fatigue are thus common and can lead to counterproductive interventions. Working with this clientele requires the ability to regulate negative emotions and inhibit associated behaviors. However, the processes involved in this emotional work are rarely made explicit and even less taught. The Project TANGO training was developed to help clinicians modify their emotional and behavioral reactions

[Improving Quality of Life in Patients with Refractory Schizophrenia After Virtual Reality-assisted Therapy: A Content Analysis].

Objectives Schizophrenia, particularly treatment-resistant schizophrenia (TRS), is one of the most disabling psychiatric disorders in terms of adverse effects on the quality of life (QOL) of patients. Subjective QOL has become a particularly crucial target that should be improved with treatment, since improved QOL may lead to recovery in patients with schizophrenia. However, there is little evidence on the efficacy of recommended psychosocial interventions on non-symptomatic measures such as QOL. In this regard, the treatment of schizophrenia can be enhanced if, in addition to the treatment of

[Follow-up of Post-Transitional Housing for Homeless Women: Needs, Implementation and Outcomes of a Pilot Study].

Objectives Consolidation of supported housing policies is a primary source of solutions aimed at addressing the problem of homelessness. Transitional housing (TH) offers a sequential housing trajectory from emergency shelters, to TH, to permanent housing with or without supports. Post-TH follow-up may improve residential stability and community integration. Yet little information is available on successful conditions and effectiveness related to post-TH follow-up for improving residential stability and community integration among homeless people, and especially homeless women. [Representations of Mental Disorders and Employment Fit Perceived by Employers of the Regular Labour Market in France].

Introduction People with mental disorders face stigma and discriminatory hiring practices in the competitive labour market. This study on employers' representations of mental disorders provides knowledge regarding the specifics of their negative perceptions for this population, which appears to be an important barrier to their inclusion in the workplace. Heilman's lack of fit model (1983) enabled to show that recruiters seek to match the characteristics they perceive in candidates with those they deem necessary to succeed in the organization. A lack of fit between the two components-candidates

Introduction Nurses' notes are used primarily as a communication tool between nurses, doctors and member of the professional team to ensure continuity of patient care. They contain life-history of individuals with mental health disorders. This nurses' communication tool describes the patient care during hospitalization in acute psychiatric ward. In fact, these observations contained in the progress notes represent more than a simple picture of mental illness. They always tell a story constructed by socio-cultural norms. Objectives The purpose of this article is to demonstrate the value of these

[The Influence of Puberty on Neural Systems Subserving Emotion Regulation: Implications for Understanding Risk for Affective Disorders].

Adolescence, with the onset of puberty, represents a developmental period that, in the context of adverse events, renders youth vulnerable to the onset of psychopathology such as affective disorders. It is also a time when fronto-striatal-limbic systems supporting the processing and regulation of emotion and reward undergo important neuromaturational changes. Despite evidence from epidemiological research suggesting that, particularly in girls, the increase in the rate of depression is more strongly associated with pubertal development than maturational age, researchers are just beginning to s
