Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection in Relation to Physical and Emotional Stress: A Retrospective Study in 4 Arab Gulf Countries.

Spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD) has emerged as an important cause of acute coronary syndrome and sudden cardiac death. The triggers for SCAD often do not include traditional atherosclerotic risk factors. The most commonly reported triggers are extreme physical or emotional stress. The current study compared in-hospital and follow-up events in patients with SCAD with and without reported stress. Data from 83 patients with a confirmed diagnosis of SCAD were collected retrospectively from 30 centers in 4 Arab Gulf countries (KSA, UAE, Kuwait, and Bahrain) from January 2011 to Decemb

Cephradine-Induced Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis: A Case Report of Treatment With Etanercept.

Toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) is a rare yet life-threatening severe cutaneous adverse reaction (SCAR) to various causative agents, including medications, vaccinations, infections, and malignancies, in addition to some other uncommon external stimuli. TEN is characterized by the sudden appearance of generalizeddusky erythematous targetoid macules with a purpuric center, which coalesces to form bullae and flaccid blisters, leading to an eventual sheet-like epidermal detachment of all necrotic areas. Extensive epidermal denudation in TEN is usually accompanied by thermoregulatory impairment, i

Association between factor V Leiden mutation and recurrent pregnancy loss in the middle east countries: a Newcastle-Ottawa meta-analysis.

PURPOSE: Heritable thrombophilia is a category of genetic disorders of the coagulation cascade with the increasing risk of thrombus formation and recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL). Factor V Leiden (FVL) (R506Q) mutation is the most common genetic cause of deep venous thrombosis, but its association with RPL has been inconsistent in studies arising from non-Western countries. The present metanalysis was aimed to determine whether an association exists between FVL and RPL in the Middle East. METHODS: We searched PubMed, MEDLINE Web of Science, Scopus, and Embase, evaluating the association between

Isolation and phylogenetic analysis of camel contagious ecthyma virus in Morocco.

Camel contagious ecthyma is a highly infectious viral skin disease that affects camels and causes economic losses. This study reports the isolation and the phylogenetic analysis of contagious ecthyma virus among camels in Morocco. The disease was detected in four among fifteen camels with severe papules on the lips and nares. Samples of skin crusts were collected and pooled for virus isolation and titration, PCR testing, and histopathological examination. PCR was used to amplify the B2L gene and the resulting product was sequenced and analyzed genetically. The study's findings indicate the pre

Assessing C reactive protein/albumin ratio as a new biomarker for polycystic ovary syndrome: a case-control study of women from Bahraini medical clinics.

OBJECTIVE: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is an endocrine disorder affecting approximately one in seven women who experience androgen excess, menstrual cycle irregularities, frequent anovulation and a tendency for central obesity and insulin resistance. Chronic subclinical inflammation is now recognised as being common in the context of PCOS, which led to the postulation that PCOS may fundamentally be an inflammatory process. This study aimed to: (1) evaluate serum C reactive protein (CRP)/albumin ratio as a potential predictive biomarker for PCOS; (2) compare the relationship between CRP/al

Gene deletions in Arab patients with spinal muscular atrophy.

Spinal muscular atrophy is an autosomal recessive disorder characterized by degeneration of lower motor neurons. We have investigated the presence of survival motor neuron gene and neuronal apoptosis inhibitory protein gene deletions in 17 Arab and 1 Indian families with spinal muscular atrophy (15 type I and 3 type II). Homologous deletions were detected in exons 7 and 8 of the survival motor neuron gene and exon 5 of the neuronal apoptosis inhibitory protein gene in all patients with type I spinal muscular atrophy. Exon 13 of the neuronal apoptosis inhibitory protein gene was deleted in only

Prevalence of factor V G1691A (factor V-Leiden) and prothrombin G20210A gene mutations in a recurrent miscarriage population.

Factor V G1691A (FV-Leiden) and prothrombin G20210A mutations are major inherited risk factors for venous thrombosis. Recently, it was suggested that both mutations, through stimulation of venous and placental thrombosis events, were strongly associated with recurrent idiopathic miscarriages, although other studies disputed such a link. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of prothrombin G20210A and factor V G1691A (R506Q, FV-Leiden) mutations in women with recurrent idiopathic abortions and to recommend management for high-risk mutation carriers. One hundred ten women with tw

Sarcopenia Risk Identified by Strength, Assistance With Walking, Rising From a Chair, Climbing Stairs, and Falls (SARC-F) in Patients With Cirrhosis: A Real-World Cross-Sectional Study.

INTRODUCTION: Sarcopenia is highly prevalent in patients with liver cirrhosis and is associated with increased morbidity, hospitalization, and mortality. However, routine screening is not consistently performed in clinical practice. The strength, assistance with walking, rising from a chair, climbing stairs, and falls (SARC-F) questionnaire is a simple tool that may facilitate early identification of sarcopenia risk. METHODS: This cross-sectional study included adult patients with cirrhosis attending a tertiary government hospital in Bahrain between January 1, 2024, and December 31, 2025. Sar
