We present two case reports of Stevens-Johnson syndrome (triad of fever, stomatitis and conjunctivitis) due to klavox (amoxicillin + clavulanic acid) which has been reported in few publications as etiology but it is not commonly seen. We conclude that klavox can precipitate development of SJS.

β-Lactamases are the leading mechanism of resistance to β-lactam antibiotics in Enterobacterales. Here, we report the detection and characteristics of SED-2, a new member of the Citrobacter sedlakii class A chromosomal β-lactamase SED family. Klebsiella pneumoniae 5064, isolated in New York, carried plasmid-mediated resistance to multiple beta-lactams and was unresponsive to clavulanic acid. The beta-lactamase gene responsible for cephalosporin resistance encoded FOX-5, with 96 to 97% amino acid identities to other members of the FOX family of beta-lactamases. The bla(FOX-5) coding region was located next to a transposase gene from the Aeromonas salmonicida insertion element ISAS2.

Papillon Lefevre syndrome is presented in the cases of two female patients of the ages of 7 and 9, who exhibited all typical symptoms of the disease. Microbiological and histopathological studies were done and treatment provided. Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans, which is suspected as a pathogenic factor in the disease was identified as well as some other gram negative microorganisms and an antibiogram was performed in which amoxycillin plus clavulanic acid was most effective. Thirty ampicillin-resistant enterococci were isolated from clinical specimens at our institution, 28 of these over a six month period. All were identified as Enterococcus faecium with an MIC(90) to ampicillin ond penicillin of 32 and 128 mug/ml, respectively. UNLABELLED: Levofloxacin is the L-form of the fluoroquinolone antibacterial agent, ofloxacin. In in vitro studies, levofloxacin demonstrated a broad range of activity against Gram-positive and -negative organisms and anaerobes. A 31 year old woman presented with a chest wall abscess due to Actinomyces israellii and Porphyromonas asaccharolytica (previously Bacteroides asaccharolyticus). She was a long-term user of an intra-uterine device (IUD) and, although asymptomatic, had radiological evidence of pelvic infection. Actinomyces-like organisms were seen on cervico-vaginal smears. The abscess was surgically drained, the IUD removed, and a prolonged course of amoxycillin/clavulanic acid given.

Amoxicillin-clavulanate is the most common drug involved in drug-induced liver injury and the single most frequently prescribed product leading to hospitalization for drug-induced liver disease in Spain. This study analyzed retrospectively 291 semen samples, identifying diverse anaerobic bacteria, mainly Prevotella (49 % of all isolates), Veillonella, and Peptoniphilus. Most isolates were susceptible to amoxicillin/clavulanic acid, suggesting its therapeutic potential in male infertility. Resistance to metronidazole was observed in Peptoniphilus, Veillonella, and Propionimicrobium, while Bacteroides exhibited resistance to benzylpenicillin.

We report three cases of corneal ulcer caused by Pseudomonas pseudomallei. In all cases corneal trauma preceded the development of extensive ulcers, subconjunctival abscesses, and hypopyon. Treatment for a total of 8 weeks with topical and/or parenteral ceftazidime followed by amoxicillin-clavulanic acid produced resolution of infection in each case.

We present a 31-year-old man who, after a Conus textile sting acquired in New Caledonia, developed a cutaneous abscess on a buttock.
