[Self-evaluation of conization indications since the introduction of the French colposcopy and cervico-vaginal pathology quality charter in 2 colposcopy centers].

OBJECTIVES: Analyze the efficiency of the implementation of the colposcopy and cervico-vaginal pathology quality charter. The question was to determine whether the criteria of more than 70% of excisional conizations containing CIN2+ lesions (cervical intraepithelial neoplasia 2 or 3 or carcinoma in situ) had been reached and demonstrate a reduction of the conization rate is possible. METHODS: An epidemiological descriptive, retrospective and multicenter study was performed in "Nord Franche-Comté Hospitals" (Belfort and Montbéliard, France) during the period from November 2013 to January 2015.

Cervical conization and high risk - HPV status changes in relation to menopause: a retrospective longitudinal study based on generalized additive mixed models.

BACKGROUND: The relationship between high-risk human papillomavirus (HR-HPV) infection outcomes and cervical lesion recurrence after conization is well documented. However, the temporal dynamics of human papillomavirus (HPV) status post-conization, especially in postmenopausal women, remain unclear. METHODS: This retrospective cohort study consecutively enrolled 598 patients who underwent conization, all of whom had baseline HR-HPV positivity and histologically confirmed cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) 2-3. All patients had at least one follow - up HPV test after surgery. Temporal ch

Exploring uterine involvement in hysterectomy samples following conization for adenocarcinoma in situ of the uterine cervix: Insights from a multicenter study by the FRANCOGYN group.

BACKGROUND: Adenocarcinoma in situ (AIS) of the cervix can progress to invasive adenocarcinoma. While hysterectomy is standard, conservative management may be considered for women desiring future pregnancies. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of residual disease in hysterectomy specimens following excisional therapy with clear margins for AIS. METHODS: A retrospective FRANCOGYN cohort study was conducted on patients who underwent a hysterectomy after conization with clear margins for AIS between 2008 and 2021. The primary goal was to assess the prevalence of residual disease in the

Characterization of p16 and E6 HPV-related proteins in uterine cervix high-grade lesions of patients treated by conization with large loop excision.

Cervical cancer and its precursor lesions represent a significant public health problem for developing and less-developed countries. Cervical carcinogenesis is strongly correlated with persistent high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV) infection, which is mostly associated with expression of the p16 and E6 HPV-related proteins. The aim of this present study was to determine the expression of the p16 and E6 proteins in females with high-grade lesions treated with conization, and to discuss the role of these proteins as prognostic markers following treatment. In total, 114 females were treated for

Role of high risk-human papilloma virus test in the follow-up of patients who underwent conization of the cervix for cervical intraepithelial neoplasia.

OBJECTIVE: To examine whether the presence of high risk-human papilloma virus (HR-HPV) after conization of the cervix was a risk factor for persistence or recurrence of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) and whether HR-HPV test could be a guideline for post-therapy surveillance. METHODS: The study retrospectively analyzed data from 243 patients who underwent LLETZ or CKC of the cervix due to CIN. RESULTS: A positive HR-HPV test result which was performed between 3 and 6 months after procedure was a risk factor for persistent or recurrent cytological (p<0.001, odds ratio [OR]=22.51, 95%

Conization as a marker of persistent cervical human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and risk of gastrointestinal cancer: a Danish 34-year nationwide cohort study.

PURPOSE: Persistent cervical infection with human papillomavirus (HPV) may be a marker of poor immune function and thus associated with an increased cancer risk. HPV infection is implicated in all cases of cervical cancer, but except for anal and esophageal cancers, the association between persistent HPV infection and gastrointestinal cancer has not been investigated. METHODS: We performed a nationwide population-based cohort study of 83,008 women undergoing cervical conization between 1978 and 2011, using cervical conization as a marker of chronic HPV infection. We computed standardized inci

Long-term follow-up results from women with cervical adenocarcinoma in situ treated by conization: an experience from a large academic women's hospital.

OBJECTIVES: Cervical adenocarcinoma in situ (AIS) is the precursor to adenocarcinoma, and early management will often prevent the occurrence of invasive adenocarcinoma. Conservative treatment with conization has been proposed for the initial treatment for cervical AIS. To evaluate the risk of residual/recurrent disease after conization, we investigated the long-term follow-up results for patients with cervical AIS treated by conization. MATERIALS AND METHODS: One hundred thirty-six patients with a biopsy diagnosis of cervical AIS followed by conization were followed up with cytologic, histolo

Post-conization follow-up of patients with CIN 2/3 with different amount of distance to negative cone biopsy margin: a retrospective cohort study.

The aim of this study was to investigate whether patients with CIN 2/3 with different amount of distance to negative cone biopsy margin differ in terms of post-conization follow-up results. Cold-knife cone specimens with a negative surgical margin with a diagnosis of CIN-2/3 were selected. The minimum distance between the margin and lesion was categorised as less than 2 mm (Group-1), 2-5 mm (Group-2), or more than 5 mm (Group-3). There were no statistically significant differences between groups in terms of postoperative cone-biopsy results (p = .61). Furthermore, there were no statistically s

Human papillomavirus and the incidence of nonmelanoma and melanoma skin cancer using cervical conization as a surrogate marker: a nationwide population-based Danish cohort study.

PURPOSE: Human papillomavirus' (HPV's) role in skin cancer is controversial. To examine whether an individual is prone to develop a chronic oncogenic infection, we conducted a nationwide population-based cohort study of the risk of skin cancer after another HPV-related neoplasia-that is, cervical high-grade dysplasia or carcinoma-using cervical conization as a surrogate marker. METHODS: Using Danish registries, we identified all women who underwent conization from 1978 to 2011 (n = 87,164) and followed them until first-time skin cancer diagnosis, death, emigration, or 31 December 2011, whiche

Pathologic Findings From Conization as Predictors of Residual Disease in Stage IA2 Cervical Cancer: Implications for Fertility-Preserving Surgery With Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy.

INTRODUCTION: Conization is a standard fertility-preserving treatment for stage IA1 cervical cancer; however, its role in stage IA2 disease remains controversial due to limited supporting evidence. This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility of conization with or without sentinel lymph node (SLN) biopsy as a fertility-sparing strategy in patients with stage IA2 cervical cancer. METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed 20 patients diagnosed with stage IA2 cervical cancer based on conization pathology who subsequently underwent modified radical or radical hysterectomy or trachelectomy with SLN bio
