Aspergillosis of the long bones has not been reported. Those of the bones of the paranasal sinuses and ear canal have been reported but rare. A young woman reported to us with history of discharging sinuses around the right knee and recent fracture of the right femur. Despite all efforts, she ended up losing the whole limb from the hip. When a patient with Aspergillosis of the long bones presents late, amputation may be the best option. Early diagnosis will prevent this.

Since the onset of combat activity in Iraq and Afghanistan, there have been over 1100 major limb amputations among United States service members. With a sustained military presence in the Middle East, continued severe lower extremity trauma is inevitable. The Syme amputation is often overlooked as an alternative to below-knee amputation or above-knee amputation in cases of limb-threatening foot infections and gangrene. We present a case of primary diffuse large B-cell lymphoma of bone accompanied by osteomyelitis, which was challenging to diagnose. CT revealed no distant metastases; thus, primary bone tumour and osteomyelitis were included in the differential diagnosis. A needle biopsy of an extraosseous lesion found no malignancy, and granulation tissue with abscess formation was pathologically diagnosed. An incisional biopsy was performed to assess osteomyelitis. Evans Syndrome (ES) is a rare autoimmune disorder characterized by the simultaneous occurrence of immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) and autoimmune hemolytic anemia (AIHA). OBJECTIVE: There are several options for soft tissue coverage following external hemipelvectomy; however, in cases of war-related blast trauma, standard flaps are not always available as a result of the extensive soft tissue damage.
METHODS: We detail a novel closure technique following a subtotal hemipelvectomy with exposed abdominal viscera using a residual hamstring myofascial cutaneous flap.
RESULTS: This flap allowed for fascial tissue to fill the pelvic defect and provided excellent soft tissue coverage for future prosthetic wear.

We report an unusual case of lower limb gangrene in a pubertal boy following a typical clinical presentation of septicaemia due to Salmonella typhi. After an initial response to presumed appropriate antibiotic and supportive therapy, the patient developed tissue ischaemia in both feet. BACKGROUND: The aim of this prospective study was to assess the effect of an intensive in-patient rehabilitation programme upon the mobility of amputees.
METHODS: All major lower limb amputations between 1997 and 1999 received a pre-operative mobility assessment and, where appropriate, were referred for a vigorous rehabilitation programme.

Five hundred and sixty intact skeletons and several thousand disarticulated vertebrae have been examined with special reference to spinal fusion. In period they ranged from a 21st dynasty Egyptian mummy to a mid-19th century skeleton. Osteophytes were found in about half of the specimens, as reported previously. In patients with unilateral proximal femoral focal deficiency, the leg length inequality is almost always greater than five inches at skeletal maturity. Consequently, prosthetic management should be planned before the patient walks. Major amputation remains the default response to gas-forming soft tissue infection of the lower limb in diabetic patients across Sub-Saharan Africa, despite its devastating functional and economic consequences in settings with minimal prosthetic services. Necrotising fasciitis (NF) is a rare surgical emergency characterised by soft tissue necrosis and systemic compromise. Typically it originates following adjacent skin and soft tissue insult; however, our unusual case required a high index of clinical suspicion to avert potential mortality. A man in his 60s with diabetes mellitus presented with 2 weeks of knee pain, swelling and necrotic skin on the posterior calf. X-ray demonstrated subcutaneous emphysema. Initial debridement confirmed extensive necrotising fasciitis of the whole lower limb with tracking through femoral canal into the abdomen.

Fifty-seven patients (seventy-one limbs) who had congenital longitudinal deficiency of the tibia (tibial hemimelia) were retrospectively categorized according to radiographic type (Types 1 through 4, as described by Jones et al.).
