Oral Low-dose Theophylline on Top of Inhaled Fluticasone-Salmeterol Does Not Reduce Exacerbations in Patients With Severe COPD: A Pilot Clinical Trial.

BACKGROUND: COPD is characterized by chronic inflammation. In vitro and ex vivo observations suggest that this inflammatory response is partially resistant to the effect of corticosteroids and that low-dose theophylline can restore this response via enhancement of histone deacetylase (HDAC) activity. Whether this occurs in vivo and what its potential clinical consequences are is unclear. OBJECTIVES: The objective of this trial was to determine whether low-dose theophylline on top of inhaled long-acting β2-agonists and inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) in patients with COPD (1) enhances HDAC activ

Fluticasone furoate nasal spray consistently and significantly improves both the nasal and ocular symptoms of seasonal allergic rhinitis: a review of the clinical data.

BACKGROUND: Allergic rhinitis (AR) is a highly prevalent disorder, which often manifests as both nasal (congestion, sneezing, itching and rhinorrhoea) and ocular (redness, watery eyes, itching and burning) symptoms. Until recently, efficacy against the ocular symptoms of AR has been inconsistent for any single intranasal corticosteroid (INS). Fluticasone furoate is an enhanced-affinity glucocorticoid with potent anti-inflammatory activity. OBJECTIVE: To assess better the efficacy of an INS in the treatment of both the nasal and ocular symptoms of seasonal AR (SAR). METHODS: Data from all fou

A double-blind, placebo-controlled comparison of treatment with fluticasone propionate and levocabastine in patients with seasonal allergic rhinitis. FLNCO2 Italian Study Group.

Fluticasone propionate aqueous nasal spray (FPANS) is a topically active glucocorticoid which has been successfully used for the treatment of seasonal allergic rhinitis (SAR). Topical levocabastine is a highly selective H1 antagonist which has been proposed as an alternative treatment of SAR. The purpose of this study was to compare the clinical efficacy of two topical nasal treatments, FPANS and levocabastine, in the treatment of SAR. Additionally, the effect of treatments on nasal inflammation was examined during natural pollen exposure. A group of 288 adolescent and adult patients with at l

Validated HPLC method for simultaneous determination of azelastine hydrochloride fluticasone propionate and oxymetazoline in nasal mucosa and nasopharyngeal swabs from real human samples.

A combination of three co-administrated drugs, such as azelastine hydrochloride (AZT), fluticasone propionate (FP), and oxymetazoline (OXY), is more effective than single therapy for the treatment of seasonal allergy and COVID-19. We established an efficient methodology for the determination of those analytes in spiked nasal mucosa and nasopharyngeal swabs from real human samples. A simple and quick protein precipitation method was used for sample extraction, using acetonitrile. RP-HPLC/DAD method was performed using an Exsil 100 ODS C18 (250 × 4.6 mm, 5 μm) column with an acetonitrile: water

Clinical and economic outcomes in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease initiating maintenance therapy with tiotropium bromide/olodaterol or fluticasone furoate/umeclidinium/vilanterol.

BACKGROUND: Clinical practice guidelines recommend dual long-acting muscarinic antagonists (LAMAs)/long-acting β2agonists (LABAs) as maintenance therapy in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and dyspnea or exercise intolerance. Escalation to triple therapy (TT) (LAMA/LABA/inhaled corticosteroid) is conditionally recommended for patients with continued exacerbations on dual LAMA/LABA therapy. Despite this guidance, TT use is widespread across COPD severities, which could impact clinical and economic outcomes. OBJECTIVE: To compare COPD exacerbations, pneumonia events, an
